words for events. The lesson will start with students using the class set of laptops to visit BrainPop.com. On the
website they will view the English topics and choose the topic types of writing. When looking at the types of
writing topic students will be able to refresh themselves on the four types of writing by watching the short movie
as well as doing the quiz on types of writing. After students have watched the short film and taken the quiz I will
then all students sit on the carpet in a group for a read aloud. I will be reading the story, The Worst Day of My
Life Ever by Julia Cook.

This book will be the introduction to the narrative story they will write. After the reading, students will be given
the prompt on the screen What was your worst day ever? as well as a personal graphic organizer for their
narrative piece to help organize their ideas. The graphic organizer will have the prompt on it and a space to write
a sentence on their event. Then it will have temporal words such as first, next, then in different boxes so students
can tell about their event in the order that it happened. The narrative writing will take 2-5 days to complete
because they will go through the five steps of the writing process; brainstorming, writing a rough draft, revising,
editing, and then publishing the final product.

Students will be assessed on their final paper by showing theyre able to tell a story about their worst day ever
in a sequential order. They will also be assessed on how well they did on the BrainPop quiz on types of writing.
Students that need support can refer back the book The Worst Day of My Life Ever by Julia Cook for
examples to tell about their worst day ever. An extension for this activity would be for student to figure out how
they could fix their worst day ever or how could they have stopped it from happening. After students have
written their final paper they will be able to present their narratives on their worst day ever in front of the class
by using the document camera and reading it to the class as well.
