Content Standard Addressed: MGSE3.OA.1 Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 7 as the
total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number
of objects can be expressed as 5 7.
For this lesson the students will be watching a video on the basics of multiplication and trying to grasp the
concept for the first time of seeing objects being multiplied. Then the students will take a quiz together to see
how well they understand the videos content. Teachers will introduce the topic before playing the video then
allow the students enough time to watch the video. After this they will ask if the students have any questions
or concerns about the content of the video. Then the teacher will introduce the quiz and click on the answers
for the students and explain how they got it right or wrong. It will take about 10 minutes to complete the
activity.
I will extend this to a higher learning level by making the students explain and evaluate how they thought
about multiplication and how they think it works. The final product is being used to inform the students on
multiplication and how it works. I will conclude the lesson by having another discussion on the basics of
multiplication and how they will implement it into their work instead of using addition. I will provide feedback
by adding on to the discussion just in case they left anything out on explaining the concept of multiplication.
