PROGRAMME DETAILS

Introduction
Bank of Baroda and the Manipal Group have joined hands to set up Baroda Manipal School of
Banking (BMSB) to cater to the needs of providing well trained Banking personnel to Bank of Baroda.
A special one year programme has been developed to train young graduates in all facets of Banking
and Management for absorption into Bank of Baroda on their successful completion of the course.
On successful completion of the programme, the programme participants would be awarded Post-
graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance by the Manipal University.

Aim of the Programme


The thrust of training is to impart knowledge of general management and specialized knowledge of
banking related subjects. Programme participants i.e. the students are put through a very rigorous
training with emphasis on application of knowledge and overall development of personality. The
training at BMSB is supplemented with practical training at Bank of Barodas branches.

Programme Structure and Curriculum design


Duration of the Programme : 1 year
Number of Terms : -4- terms

The first three terms would be conducted at the BMSB campus at Bangalore and the fourth term
would be devoted to internship to be pursued at nominated branches/offices of Bank of Baroda. The
duration of each term will be twelve weeks.

The breakup of time allotted for formal study is as follows: -

(a) No. of working days in a week: 5


(b) No. of sessions (1 hour & 15 Minutes) in a day: 6
(c) No. of sessions per week: 30 sessions of class contact inclusive of practicals and lab work.
(d) No. of sessions per term: 300 sessions of class contact, practicals and lab work + 100
hours of e-Learning and practice
(e) No. of subjects per term: 8
(f) No. of sessions per subject per term: as per credits assigned

Note: Some of the sessions may be devoted to tests both internal and end term.

Course Credits
Credits have been assigned to each course based on the hours of study/learning and other
associated activities like case studies, tutorial discussions, case-presentations, lectures, library work
and practical-work in laboratories etc. The credits assigned to each course are as given below.

Various E-Learning courses will have to be also compulsorily undertaken by the students for which
credits / marks in internal assignments will be given.

PROGRAMME CONDUCT

The program objectives will be met by deploying a wide variety of teaching and learning methods
including lectures, seminars, group presentations, field visits, role-plays, simulated exercises,
experiential learning and guided assignments. There will be guest lectures from industry experts
including the bank officials.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

The requirement of attendance for the complete programme is minimum 90%. Within the remaining
10%, leave of absence may be granted only on compassionate / medical grounds with specific
permission of the BMSB. However, the students would have to make up for the loss of sessions by
self-study.

ASSESSMENT

The School follows a system of continuous assessment through multiple methods of assessment to
monitor the students academic performance. The assessment is done to measure the knowledge,
skills and application ability identified as intended learning outcomes. The course instructors shall
assess understanding of concepts, theories, business practices and applications illustrated and
discussed in respective courses.

The assessment is done to help students achieve the learning outcomes of the programme and to
motivate them throughout the programme. In addition, the assessment is done to discriminate
students according to their academic performance.

Weightage of Different Components

Each course will be evaluated for a total of 100 marks: 50 marks for internal assessment and 50
marks for end term examinations to be conducted by the university. The internship project, carrying
10 credits, is evaluated by the designated officer / executive of the Bank / Bank Managers and the
marks given by them will be considered for grading. There will be no separate internal evaluation
for internship.

The detailed procedure of evaluation and award of grades are discussed in the succeeding
paragraphs and the grading system of Manipal University is given in Appendix-A.

Internal Assessment. The continuous evaluation will consist of several instruments of evaluation like
quiz, role play, home assignment, presentations, group discussion etc. and will vary depending on
the course.

End-Term Examinations. It is mandatory for the students to appear in the end-term examinations to
be eligible for evaluation and award of grades. The end-term examination will be conducted by
Manipal University. The answer scripts may be evaluated by internal examiners (preferably, the
course teacher). Second evaluation by an external examiner will be done as per University rules.
However, external examiners may be invited for evaluation of mini project and viva voce for the
same at the campus. The end term examinations may consist of both multiple choice questions
(MCQ) & descriptive type questions. It is also proposed to have a practical component of evaluation
for the IT subject.

If a student does not appear for any end term examination for medical or other genuine reasons (as
permitted by BMSB) or if he / she does not secure the requisite grade in his/her first attempt,
additional opportunity/ies will be given to appear for the subject along with students of the next
batch.

After the 3rd term, there will be three months of internship (PROJECT) at the branches of Bank of
Baroda which will provide practical inputs to the students to make them first day first hour ready
for taking up the front level responsibilities at the Bank branches without any additional training.

During this internship, for which 10 credits have been allotted, the student will be familiarized with
the products and processes of the bank and later he / she will be attached to an operational team
and he / she will be getting field work experience during the three months. The mentor to whom the
student will be attached will constantly monitor the progress and will appraise the Trainee and will
communicate the marks to the BMSB.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Apart from the formal classes the students would be provided support for their learning process
through the following means: -

 E-learning modules provided by the bank.

PROJECT WORK

Programme participants would be expected to work on a library research project during the first two
trimesters. The topic for the project would be assigned by BMSB. A list of topics would be put up on
the website and the programme participants would be required to submit three choices by selecting
topics from the list. Efforts would be made to assign a topic to the programme participant based on
his/her choice. Programme participants would be expected to make a presentation during the third
trimester.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

The School believes that it has the responsibility to develop the students at the campus while they
are still students. The students are considered as active partners in managing the School in its
activities viz. Conferences, Guest lectures, seminars, cultural programmes, sports activities, running
of mess, etc. It is expected that they play an active role rather than remain passive recipients. The
students are thus provided an opportunity to develop management skills in organising different co-
curricular and extracurricular activities with basic support from the School.

Some of the students action groups which shall be actively involved in such activities are:

 Hostel Committee: The Hostel Committee, which shall include about 6 students (3 boys and 3
girls) is concerned with helping the warden in smooth functioning of the hostel. The members
are responsible for bringing any problems faced by the inmates of the hostel to the concerned
authorities.
 Mess Committee: The Mess Committee, which shall include 4 students (2 boys and 2 girls) is
responsible for the smooth running of the mess. They shall coordinate with the mess contractor
in deciding menu, monitoring the quality of the food and hygiene of the mess and its
surroundings.
 Co-scholastic Committee: This committee organises activities like quizzes, book reviews,
debates, group discussions, cultural events, etc.
 Sports Committee: This committee organises sports events on the campus/hostel.

AWARD FOR BEST STUDENT

One prize shall be given to the best student of any batch for overall Scholastic performance and who
secures 1st position in the programme. This prize / medal will be awarded based on the following
criteria:

 Overall academic performance


 Involvement in various extra curricular activities
 Sustained good conduct throughout the programme

LIBRARY:

The school has a Library with various reference books and periodicals in areas of Banking, General
Management, and various other topics.

Guidelines for using the Library:

 Silence should be maintained in the library premises.


 Students can borrow books from the library, the rules in respect of the number of books, the
duration of borrowal, renewal, charges for overdue, etc. shall be displayed on the notice
board of the library from time to time.
 Books will be issued on production of the identity card.
 Books should be checked for missing pages or damages before issue. The students will be
held responsible for any damage/missing pages found and penalty would be at the
discretion of the librarian.
 Library resources like reference books, periodicals, audio/video cassettes are to be referred
within the library premises.
 Mobile phones are to be switched off within the library premises.

Reading Room : Monday to Friday: 10 to 6 pm

ACADEMIC NORMS AND RULES

1. The timings for the classes at the Academy would be 09.00 am to 06.00pm. Strict timings for the
classes and workshop are to be adhered to. Students coming late will be allowed inside the class
only after giving their names/sections/registration numbers etc. at the gate and the same will be
recorded for the purpose of talking suitable action for such late coming, as per rules. Anybody
coming late would forfeit that days stipend and late arrivals for more than three times in a month
would be awarded strict punishment.

2. Students are not permitted to go out of the Academic Block during the working hours without the
permission from the HOP/Dean. Students should obtain permission from HOP/Dean in writing in the
format provided for the same, for going out of the campus during working hours. (Format for the
same is attached as Appendix -B)

3. No mobiles phones are allowed to be brought to the Academic Block by the students and if caught
the instrument as such would be seized and it will not be returned to the student in addition to the
stipend cut as per the Discipline Regulations.

4. Dress code is to be strictly followed and maintained throughout the course of study.

5. Timings.

(a) Physical training (PT / Yoga) is compulsory for all students. Timing for PT / Yoga is from 0600
hrs to 0700 hrs. Students are advised to come in appropriate dress.

(b) Academic class timings are from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on all working days. Any changes in
timings and special sessions will be informed to the students/ put up on the notice board.

(c) Computer labs are available for the groups allotted from time to time up to midnight 12O
clock.

(d) Mess timings will be displayed separately.

6. Eatables inside the class rooms/computer labs of the Academic Block are prohibited. Defaulters
would be fined Rs 250/- per offence of this nature.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

Bank of Baroda is a leading Bank in the country in the financial services sector. Manipal Group is the
national leader in the field of education. Therefore, it is imperative that all members of the BMSB
maintain the image of the School as a premier professional organisation. It is incumbent upon all to
maintain consistent standards of personal conduct. Programme Participants would be expected to
maintain proper decorum both in the Academic Block, in the Hostel as well as during the internship.
They would also be required to behave in a responsible manner when they are outside the School.
Suitable instructions on various issues would be passed on to the Programme Participants from time
to time by posting these on the BMSB website or on the BMSB notice boards. All Programme
Participants are advised to read these notices regularly. It would be assumed that all Programme
Participants would have read these notices once these notices have been put up on the
website/notice board and have been there for 6 hours. Some of the important points for compliance
on issues of general nature are enumerated in the succeeding paragraphs.

Discipline regulation for participants undergoing training at BMSB is made available to them in the
student zone of the local server. Besides, the Manipal University regulations will apply for the
examinations.

List of Prohibited Articles/Acts

(a) Consumption of Alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, tobacco in any form and chewing gum is
strictly prohibited in the Campus and also in the Hostel. Programme participants are also not
permitted to come to the hostel after consuming alcohol outside.
(b) Fireworks are not permitted in the campus or the hostel.
(c) Holi colours are not permitted inside any building. Holi will be celebrated only in open
spaces nominated by the authorities.
(d) Possession, consumption and offering of narcotic drugs in any form are totally prohibited.
Any violation will invite severe disciplinary action.
(e) Stealing or unauthorized possession of items belonging to any other person would be
viewed seriously.
(f) Possession, accessing it over the internet or displaying of any pornographic material in any
form will invite severe disciplinary action.
(g) Mobile telephones are not permitted inside the academic blocks.
(h) No private conveyance like motorcycle/scooter/car, etc is permitted at BMSB.
(i) Sexual harassment in any form would be viewed very seriously and will entail immediate
disciplinary action, including removal, without notice.
(j) Ragging in any form is prohibited both in the precincts of the campus as well as in the
precincts of the Hostel and during the entire duration of the course. This would also entail
removal from the rolls of the BMSB without notice.

Due recognition will be given to students for various co-scholastic activities which will also include
recognition for good conduct and discipline.

Interaction amongst Programme Participants
Progamme will be attended by both ladies and gentlemen. All gentlemen are expected to show due
courtesy to the ladies. Any violation of decorum would be viewed seriously.

Punctuality
Programme participants are expected to be punctual for classes and all other organised activities by
the Academy.

Dress Code
Bank of Baroda would issue uniform to be worn by all progamme participants. This dress, as laid
down, would be worn for all classes and other organised activities

HOSTEL RULES

General

 There will be separate wardens for the gentlemen and the ladies hostels. The wardens would
be responsible for the discipline in the hostel and allotment of the rooms. The concerned
Warden heads the Hostel ManagementCommittee. The wardens will be assisted by hostel
supervisors and other staff who will be responsible for maintenance of the buildings and other
assets. In addition, floors in charge would be nominated to join the Management Committee
who will assist the wardens in the day to day functioning of the hostels. Similarly, a Mess
Committee would be formed to assist the warden in smooth running of the hostel mess. Aim
of setting up the management committee is to ensure aclean and secure living environment
that is conducive for the academic advancement.

 Gentlemen are not permitted to visit the floors of the hostels earmarked for the Ladies.
Similarly, ladies will not visit the Gentlemens rooms or the floors occupied by them.

 All residents are expected to be properly dressed before they come out of their rooms. They
should not be found roaming around in the corridors improperly dressed or with just a towel
wrapped around their waist.

Allotment and Vacating the Hostels

 Rooms would be allotted to the residents by the warden. The allotment would be valid for the
complete duration of the Programme. Residents shall not change over to any other room
except with the written permission of the warden.

 Residents may be required to shift to other blocks/rooms for any administrative reasons, as
and when directed by the hostel authorities.

 Residents are advised to check all fixtures and fitments in their respective rooms as per the
inventory at the time of occupation.

 Residents would be required to vacate the hostel at the time of proceeding for the internship
during the fourth trimester. Any damage to the hostel property in their respective rooms
would have to be made good by the Residents.

Maintenance and Upkeep

 Residents must keep their rooms tidy every day before leaving for classes or going out of the
hostel.

 Any request for repair or maintenance should be entered in the registers specifically kept for
this purpose with the hostel warden. Residents must bring to the notice of the supervisory
staff any failure or breakdown in electric supply.

 They should not attempt to repair the defects in the mains or in the distribution system.

 When leaving their rooms the residents must switch off all lights, fans and water taps.

 Bed linen would be changed at stipulated intervals by the supervisory staff.

 The rooms and surroundings must be kept neat and clean. Services of cleaners would be
provided by the hostel.

 Water is an essential but scarce commodity. All residents are requested to use water
judiciously and preserve it. Leakages etc. in the bathrooms should be immediately reported
through complaint registers.

Disciplinary Rules to be observed in the Hostel

 Residents are advised not to deface the walls of the hostels by pasting posters, etc. Similarly,
no alterations of any nature are permitted.

 Cooking in the hostel rooms is not permitted.

 Pets of any kind are not permitted in the hostel premises. Feeding of stray dogs and cats or
any other animals is not permitted in the hostel premises.

 Use of any domestic electrical appliance is not permitted inside the hostel rooms. Any
unauthorized electric appliance found in any of the rooms without permission of the warden
will be confiscated and disciplinary action initiated.

 Any damage of hostel property will be made good by the residents who are responsible for
such damage. This includes driving in of nails, defacing of walls, damage to fixtures and
furnitures. Fine will also be levied in addition to disciplinary action.

 Possession or consumption of alcohol and smoking or chewing of tobacco and the related
products is strictly banned in the hostels.

 Partying in the hostel rooms, in the corridors or anywhere inside the hostel is not allowed
without the permission of the warden/ Bank representative.

 Candles and incenses are a fire hazard and are not permitted in the hostels. Combustible
materials such as gasoline, paint thinner and oil lamps are not permitted in the hostels.
Burning/bursting of crackers, carrying of crackers to the rooms and lighting of lamps/candles
are banned strictly in and around the Hostel premises throughout the year. Residents must
switch of all lights and fans and electrical appliances including the mosquito repelling
machines, if any before leaving their rooms. This is necessary to avoid an inadvertent fire.

 Playing of loud music and disturbing other residents is not permitted. All residents are
expected to maintain the decorum by not disturbing their roommates or their neighbours.

 Playing of any outdoor games in the corridors of the hostels is not permitted.

 The Wardens or their representatives may enter any room for verification at any time of the
day or night.

 All residents must return to the hostel latest by 7.30 pm (girls) / 10 pm (boys).

 Any absence from the hostel at night must be with the specific written permission of the
warden. Rules / guidelines for obtaining Night pass will be made available to all students in the
Hostel.

 Residents are not permitted to allow their rooms to be used by any other person.

 Visitors must be entertained in the areas specifically earmarked for them.

 The entry of all males is strictly forbidden inside ladies hostel except the authorized officials.
Likewise, ladies are not permitted to enter the gents hostels.

 All residents must inform the warden about any disciplinary or other problems concerning
them or their room mates / neighbours.

 Residents are expected to maintain perfect disciplines and order in the mess and in the dining
hall always. Uniforms should be worn by all students while taking the breakfast and lunch on
all working days. Outside food and drinks are strictly not permitted to be consumed in the
dining hall. Disciplinary/penal action will be initiated against the defaulters.

 Residents are not permitted to take their meals in their room as it has been experienced that
the crockery/cutleries are carelessly thrown around by such students who carry the food to
their rooms. In case any residents need to take food for the fellow student who is bedridden, a
deposit of Rs 100/- has to be given by the student who wants to carry the food to the room
and the same money would be returned to the student after returning the plate back to the
catering staff. No private caterers are permitted to supply food within hostels.

 Residents are advised not to keep any valuables or jewellery etc in their rooms. All expensive
items must be kept under lock and key when the residents are not in their rooms. The
management will not be held responsible for loss of any valuables. All rooms when the
residents are not present must be locked and the key handed over to the security by the last
occupant leaving the room.

 Residents are not permitted to bring any type of private conveyance to the hostel.

 No private television is permitted to be kept in the hostel rooms by the students. Students
have to watch TV in the common TV location provided in the hotels.

 Proxy or dummy/non room-mates are forbidden. Strict action will be taken if accommodation
is held as proxy. They are liable to be removed from the hostel. Residents are not permitted
to allow their rooms to be used by others. All visitors and non-residents including students
from other hostels must report to the hostel warden, in case they have to meet an inmate. All
residents are advised to extend their fullest co-operation to see that no unauthorized persons
enter or stay in the hostel premises.

 UNDER THE PLEA OF CONFIDENCE BUILDING MEASURES OF JUNIORS, NO ACTION OF


VIOLATION OR INTERFERENCE OF PERSONAL PRIVACY AMOUNTING TO INTIMIDATION WILL BE
ALLOWED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS. SUCH ACTIVITY WILL BE TERMED AS SERIOUS
OFFENCE AS DEFINED IN THE DISCIPLINE REGULATIONS AND STRICT DISCIPLINARY ACTION
WILL BE TAKEN AGSAINST THE OFFENDERS. SUCH BEHAVIOUR INCLUDES DISPLAY OF NOISY
/ DISORDERLY CONDUCT, TEASING IN A ROUGH/RUDE MANNER, INDULGING IN ROWDY LIKE
BEHAVIOUR, INDISCIPLINED OR OBSCENE ACTIVITIES WHICH CAUSE OR IS LIKELY TO CAUSE
UNDUE HARDSHIP OR ANNOYANCE, PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL HARM OR MENTAL
TRAUMA OR RAISE APPREHENSION OR FEAR IN FRESHERS OR OTHER STUDENTS OR FORCING
A STUDENT TO DO ANYTHING WHICH S/HE NOT WILLING TO DO OR WHICH CAUSES HIM /HER
SHAME OR EMBARRASSMENT OR DANGER TO HIS/HER LIFE INCLUDING EVE TEASING.

 All hostel inmates MUST report any disciplinary matter or problems concerning them or their
room-mate/neighbours coming to their notice to the warden. In case their roommate is
absent from the room or is sick/physically/mentally in trouble or is indulging in any bad
practices the same MUST be immediately brought to the notice of the Warden.

 The residents are forbidden to keep any heavy cash/valuables in the room. The residents are
responsible for the safety of his/her items inside the rooms. Giving the rooms keys to any
person in good faith is at their own risk. The management will not take any responsibility for
any loss of costly articles/money. They may deposit all sums of money not immediately/
required by them for their expenses in the local banks. The residents are supposed to lock the
room and deposit the key to the security of the hostel while leaving the hostel.

 Students are responsible for any textbooks, library books, or any equipment loaned to or used
by them. If misused or damaged, students will be responsible for bearing the necessary
charges to repair or replace them.

 Weapons or replica of weapons are not permitted in the Hostel/Campus at any time. Criminal
charges will be filed in detecting such instances against the student. Engaging in trade /trade
activities within the premises/campuses is prohibited.

 Possession/consumption of Illegal drugs inside the hostel is a serious offence and the
defaulters will be dealt with accordingly.

 Harassment will not be tolerated. Harassment whether written, verbal, physical, emotional,
racial, sexual including homosexual and pornography is a serious offence and will be treated as
severe offence.

Residents Mess
All residents would be necessarily required to dine in the Residents Mess. They would be expected
to adhere to the laid down timings.

Complaints and Representations


All complaints shall be made in writing and addressed to the warden.

Residents are not permitted to convene meeting of any sort in the hostel premises without the prior
permission of the warden.

Medical Help
Basic medical help will be available on Campus. A doctor would be available at appointed hours in
the campus besides being on call on 24 by 7 basis.

Conclusion
These instructions are by no means comprehensive. Any issue, not expressly provided herein, would
rest at the absolute discretion of the BMSB authorities who also reserve the right to modify these
instructions at any time without prior notice. It would be the earnest endeavour of the management
to make the living conditions in the hostel as comfortable as possible. Cooperation of the residents
would help the management in achieving this aim.

REGULATIONS GOVERNING DISCIPLINE FOR PARTICIPANTS
at Baroda Manipal School of Banking (BMSB)

1. BACKGROUND

This discipline regulation document is designed with an objective to set uniform set of guidelines of
discipline for participants of Baroda Manipal School of Banking, in order to ensure that participants
become highly disciplined individuals and are clear on the expected behaviour, so that they become
worthy of upholding the values of BMSB.

It would cover the nature of offences, their classification, the method of enquiry, the punishments if
any and people who are empowered to award the punishments. Penalties and punishments when
awarded will be with the aim of ensuring expected behaviour at all times and to uphold the dignity
and objective of BMSB.

2. ORGANISATION

The following officials would be prima-facie responsible for maintenance of discipline of the highest
standards at BMSB.

1. HOD /Head of Program/Associate Dean/Dean


2. Representative of Bank of Baroda.
3. Director, Manipal University, Bangalore Campus

However, Director of Campus will be the ultimate authority to decide on the action part. His
decision would be final.

3. NATURE OF OFFENCES

The Offences can be broadly classified as Very Severe Offences, Severe Offences and other Offences.

3.1. Very Severe Offences. These offences would be the kind that are unacceptable in the campus
and are criminal in nature as per law of the land. Committing of such offences will invariably be
reported to the Police.

3.2. Severe Offences. These are offences which are serious in nature but can be usually dealt
internally at BMSB.
Theft
Academic dishonesty including copying in examinations, communicating with other participants
during tests, use of mobile phone, PDA, pager or any other electronic device during tests, any
cybercrime like stealing the work of another participant/ deleting the work of another participant
or any other such acts, impersonation in tests and plagiarism.

*1 Ragging: Directives of Humble Supreme Court of India, to prevent and curb ragging, at different
times have been implemented in the School. Ragging In the hostel and on the campus is strictly
prohibited. Any student indulging in this will be liable to be expelled not only from the hostel but
also from the School. Ragging includes, but not limited to, any disorderly conduct whether by words
spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, or handling with rudeness any other
student, in a rowdy or undisciplined manner which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship
or psychological harm or raise fear or apprehension and which has the effect of causing or
generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or Psyche of a
fresher or junior.

*2 Sexual harassment: In pursuance of the directions of the Humble Supreme Court of India, Sexual
harassment includes:

1) Physical contact and advances


2) A demand or request for sexual favours
3) Sexually collared remarks
4) Showing pornography
5) Any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non verbal conduct of sexual nature

3.3. Other Offences. These are offences that are of minor nature. However participants need to be
cautious of not committing them. Some of the offences under this category would be

4. MODALITY OF INVESTIGATION / ENQUIRY

All incidents / cases of offences would be enquired into by following who would submit the findings
to the Director where necessary as per Para 6 below for necessary decision / ratification:

1. HOD/Head of Program/Associate Dean/Dean


2. Representative of Bank of Baroda.

Where found necessary, a member of the faculty can be co-opted for the enquiry process. Decision
will be taken based on the written investigation report submitted by this Committee. As a part of the
enquiry / investigation, the participant/s against whom such investigation is underway may be
provided the opportunity to be heard. Punishments for less severe offences can be awarded without
a written investigation report, except when a punishment of loss of stipend is awarded.

5. PENALTIES

The recommended maximum penalties for various offences are stated below:

Very Severe Offences


Dealt within the law of the land. Such participants will invariably be withdrawn from the
program based on the internal investigation results and will have to repay the complete
loan outstanding computed at commercial rate of interest since inception along with
stipend received so far and bond money as prescribed by Bank of Baroda.

Severe Offences
Withdrawn from the program based on the internal investigation results and will have
to repay the complete loan outstanding computed at commercial rate of interest since
inception along with stipend received so far and bond money as prescribed by Bank of
Baroda.
Withdrawal of stipend as deemed fit by Director of Campus.
Make good the loss of damaged/destroyed property

Other Offences
Deduction of stipend up to 15 days
Debarred from night out passes for a period of one month.
Written Warnings/Counselling

6. POWERS OF PUNISHMENT

The following officials are empowered to award punishments to the program participants.

However, all such decisions taken by these authorities would require to be ratified by the Director.

7. PENALTIES FOR SPECIFIC ACTS OF INDISCIPLINE:

i. No student is permitted to remain absent from the campus or even from any of his classes /
periods, lab sessions, etc. except with proper permission from the designated BMSB
authorities. Any student who is unauthorisedly absent, even for one class / period, will be
subjected to a stipend cut of 1 day. If the unauthorized absence is for one full day or more,
stipend cut of 3 days for each day of absence will be imposed.

ii. Late coming to the BMSB Academic building is not permitted and will also result in one days
stipend cut.

iii. Anyone found loitering around during class hours will be punished with stipend cut as may
be decided by the Disciplinary committee.

iv. Students are given choice between Yoga Classes or Physical training like jogging. Every
student will participate in either of the two every day for 6 days a week from Monday to
Saturday. Attendance in the Physical Training / Yoga Classes/ Jogging is compulsory for all
BMSB students, unless exempted by the HOD / Associate Dean / BOB Representative. Any
student who is absent for the same, even for one day, will be subjected to a stipend cut of 3
days. No late coming to the Physical Training / Yoga classes/Jogging will be permitted, except
with proper justifiable reasons, in the absence of which, it will attract appropriate action,
including 1 day stipend cut.

v. All students have to be smartly dressed and should come to campus in proper, clean
uniform, neatly turned up. Wearing of improper dress / shabby dress / unclean / unshaven
cases will be informed to the HOD/Associate Dean and will attract appropriate action, which
will be decided in consultation with BOB Representative and the Head, facilities.

vi. Any form of eatables is not allowed inside the Academic block and anyone found in
possession of any eatables will be levied with a fine of Rs.250/- for each such occasion.

vii. Smoking or drinking of alcoholic beverages in the Campus or in the Hostel or even on the
roadside in the Tea stalls, etc. is strictly prohibited. Anyone found smoking in these areas will
be liable for being punished with a Stipend cut for 7 days, while drinking of alcoholic
beverages may attract even stiffer penalties.

viii. Scribbling on the Walls or defacing the Walls in any form either in the campus or in the
hostel / hostel rooms is not permitted and anyone indulging in such an act will have to
reimburse the cost of repairs/repainting in addition to appropriate action that may be
initiated against such student.

ix. Hostel property shall not to be misused and in case of any misuse, the cost will be recovered
from the concerned student.

x. Meals cannot be carried to the hostel rooms and any violation of this will result in a fine of
Rs.250/- for each such violation.

xi. Any one availing the Night out pass (NOP) has to necessarily return to the Hostel within the
permitted time and returning late for any reason whatsoever, has to be invariably informed
to the Warden well in advance and the wardens permission taken for such late arrival,
failing which he/she may not be permitted entry to the hostel on the given day besides
he/she being also liable for punishment for violation of the NOP rules.

xii. During Hostel inspection, if any student is found absent from the Hostel without any
supporting documents / permission for his / her absence, he/she may be punished with 15
days stipend cut for each such absence, unless the absence is explained to the satisfaction of
the BOB Representative and the Hostel warden.

xiii. Students are required to maintain the decency and decorum of the Academy/Hostel by their
decent behavior. Anyone found behaving indecently (with the member of the opposite sex)
or indulging in moral turpitude, which will affect the reputation of the institute / Hostel, will
be dealt with severely. Director/HOD/Bank representative will decide on the quantum and
Type of punishment which may include debarring from the School.

xiv. A warning letter will be issued to the student where the stipend cut on account of any
violation(s) during the 9 months of campus stay goes in excess of 30 days. However, if the
stipend cut exceeds 60 days, a Report will be sent to Bank of Baroda and appropriate
disciplinary action will be initiated which may also result in termination.

xv. The BMSB and BOB reserves the right to alter/change/bring in new Rules of Discipline at any
time in the interest of maintaining Proper discipline both in the Academic Building as well as
in the Hostel .

8. LEAVE RULES:

i. Only one NOP per month during weekends is permitted which shall however be granted
subject to the students completion of all e-learning modules / Assignments, activities as
prescribed.

ii. Students are not entitled for any leave during their study at BMSB.

iii. However in case of sickness or for other genuine reasons, leave may be considered but
sanction for the same will be entirely at the discretion of the Class Teacher/ HOD / Associate
Dean, BMSB, looking at the circumstances and the reasons stated.

iv. Any student proceeding on leave after being duly sanctioned leave by the Class Teacher/
HOD / Associate Dean, BMSB, has to submit the original leave letter, duly sanctioned, to the
Class Teacher and Copy to the warden, before proceeding on leave.

v. Anyone leaving the BMSB or the Hostel without duly sanctioned leave may not be admitted
again to the BMSB and to the Hostel and appropriate punishment for the same may be
imposed by the Disciplinary Committee.

vi. If a Student does not report back after sanctioned leave and extends his stay, he/she will be
liable for 7 days stipend cut as punishment in addition to 3 days stipend cut for each days
delay.

vii. In all other cases of indiscipline, the Disciplinary committee will decide on the quantum and
form of punishment taking in to account the type of violation and the circumstances
involved.

viii. The BMSB and BOB reserves the right to alter/change/bring in new Leave Rules at any time
in the interest of maintaining Proper discipline both in the Academic Building as well as in
the Hostel .

9. ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURES:

A Stipend Report will be sent to the Bank every month on or before the last day of the
month for payment of Stipend. While sending Stipend report to BOB authorities, those
cases where stipend cut and /or punishment has been imposed will be informed to the
BOB Representative to be passed on to the Bank.

A hostel attendance report and a discipline report will be submitted by the Warden daily
and weekly respectively. Veena / receptionist will maintain the list of students who are
sick and shall submit it to Nurul/ warden by 6 pm every day.

The Hostel report, Sick report and leave approval letters will be with the Warden,
Mr.Nurul who shall pass on the copies to other wardens for considering these before
issuing Night out Passes and also send a Report to the Chief Warden, Mr. K. V.
Venkatesh.

On the Student completing the course and joining the Bank, all these documents will
form the basis of the Character Certificate to be issued to the bank, in respect of the
student for the period of his / her stay at the BMSB campus and Hostel.

10. CONCLUSION

The guidelines given in this document are in no way exhaustive. There may be other instances which
may come up outside the content of this document. Such cases will be dealt keeping in mind the
principles of natural justice as decided by the above said committee and as ratified by the Director.
The key aspects of these regulations / guidelines and any subsequent changes made will be made
known for information of the participants.

RULES FOR ISSUING NIGHT OUT PASS FOR BMSB STUDENTS

For the benefit of all, the rules relating to night out pass [NOP] are summarized here below:

1. A student can be away from the campus during the night only with an approved NOP.
2. NOP is issued at the discretion of Baroda Manipal School of Banking (BMSB) and not as a
matter of right.
3. A student is eligible for only one NOP per calendar month, on any day of students
convenience. Student can combine one NOP with holiday or weekend, provided there is no
academic/lab sessions scheduled during that time.
4. No NOP is permitted during the 2nd half of the last month of the trimester in view of
examinations.
5. If any disciplinary proceeding [DP] has been issued, then he or she is not eligible for NOP.
a. For one more month.
b. At all during that trimester if he or she has two or three DPs.
c. At all for the rest of his/her term here if DP is more than three.

6. If a student extends authorized absence beyond granted permission, apart from disciplinary
action, stipend would be deducted for all the days of authorized absence plus extended
absence.
7. All NOP requests are to be made to the respective wardens in the printed form. The
destination, address, purpose & contact number are to be written on the reverse of that. Test
checks will be made to ensure its correctness and if found wrong will be subject to DP.
8. Request for NOP has to be given a week in advance during prescribed dates and time, as
advised by wardens trimester-wise.
9. NOP holder has to keep the roommates informed of the destination & other travel details. If
there are instances of students missing without NOPs, not only such students but all their
room mates who assisted in such covert activity will be subject to disciplinary regulations.
10. An NOP is valid for leaving only after class hours and the NOP holder has to be present for the
PT/yoga on the date of joining.
11. Availing an NOP for a defined purpose and using it for any other purpose e.g. going to a late
night movie and returning thereafter is not acceptable. Wardens will not allow students inside
the hostel other than in conformity with the NOP issued.
12. Permission of local guardian or parent is mandatory for issuing NOP. The sms /email would be
sent to parents/local guardians registered mobile number and email id.
13. No student should approach any faculty for an NOP or early leaving or for any such non-
academic issues.

APPENDIX A

GRADING SYSTEM FOR PGDB&F COURSE AS PER MANIPAL UNIVERSITY

Grading System.
A grade will be awarded to a student based on his/her performance over the term in a particular
course. The grades are denoted by the letters A+, A, B, C, D, E, F and I, each of which not only
indicates a qualitative assessment of the student's performance but also carries a quantitative
(numeric) equivalent called the grade point as given below:

A student will be deemed to have passed in a course if he/she gets any grade in the range of A+ to E.
A student will be awarded F if he / she has failed to obtain the minimum percentage prescribed. A
student will be awarded I grade if he/ she has satisfied the attendance requirement and has
satisfactory performance in the internal assessment, but has not appeared in the end-term
examination after taking permission for abstention.

Award of Grades.
Appropriate letter grades are awarded for those who have appeared for the University Examination
based on the scores obtained in the theory and practical examinations. Internal Assessment marks
and University examination marks put together will be taken into account for the letter grading
system in each subject separately.

A student who registers for the university examination but fails to appear for the examination will be
awarded an I Grade. If the student fails to score the minimum required 50% marks in the
University examination he will be given a Grade F, indicating a failure in that subject.

A subject successfully completed cannot be repeated for improving the grade.

Final evaluation of each subject (theory and practical separately) will be carried out on a 10 point
grading system corresponding to the marks obtained in that subject. Each subject letter grade is
converted into a specific grade value associated with the letter grade as given below (Table)

Grade Point Average (GPA)
The grade points are weighted in accordance with the number of credits assigned to a theory or
practical subject and it is a product of credit and grade value. The Grade Point Average (GPA) is the
weighted average of grade points awarded to a candidate.

Total grade points of a particular term

Total number of credits of the term

GPA for each term will be calculated for those candidates who have passed all the subjects of that
particular term of the course.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)


The weighted average of GPAs of all terms that the student has completed at any point of time is
the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at that point of time.

CGPA up to any term will be calculated only for those students who have passed all the subjects up
to that term. Generally, CGPA is calculated after the successful completion of the entire PGDBF
course.

After the results are declared, grade cards will be issued to each student, which will contain the list
of subjects for that term and the grades obtained by the student.

Award of Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance (PGDBF)


A Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance will be conferred on a student on successful
completion of the programme. However, for the award of postgraduate diploma, a student has to
fulfill the following requirements:

(a) He/she should have appeared and passed all the courses of study as prescribed in the curriculum
and should have earned the minimum number of credits & grade specified for the program of study.

(b) He/she should have satisfactorily fulfilled other academic requirements (as specified in the
course of study/ curriculum) like practical training, work visits, seminar, project, attendance etc.

Besides the above, the student has to necessarily complete the e-learning modules (on self-study
basis) as per bank requirements and this will be an additional requirement for the purpose of banks
acceptance of the students, though not for the award of diploma.

A student will not be awarded any class or division for his/ her performance in the programme.
However, CGPA obtained by him/her will be mentioned in the grade card and certificate to be issued
to him/ her. The grades and the equivalent grade points will be mentioned in the grade cards and
certificates.
