2 Properties of the Rock

In other to determine the suitability of the rock for construction the following

analysis were carried out as presented in the Table 2 below:

2.3 Deposit Reserves Estimation and Life Span

The reserve estimation of the deposit was conservatively

calculated based on the licence area and restricted to the

designated area for quarry operation. In view of this some

conventional mathematical parameters may be employed such as

length, breath, base, height etc.; tonnage can also be established

using the calculated volume with tonnage factor i.e. the specific

gravity of the rock which is 2.66 based on the laboratory analysis

as shown in Table 2 .

1. Deposit Estimation

Working Bench

L = 524m, B = 272m, H = 42m

Volume = 524 x 272 x 42 = 5,986,176m3

Tonnage = 5,986,176 x 2.68 = 16,042,951 T

Total Quarry Reserve

16,042,951 Tons

2. Determination of the life span of the deposit

Crusher capacity = 180t/hr. Average working of 8hrs. / Day

5 working days/week

300 working days/year

Expected production per day = 180t/hr. x 8hr
= 1440t/day

Production per year - 1440x300days = 432,000t

Life span of deposit = in-situ tonnage / Production per year

= 16,042,951 / 432,000

= 37years

3. Tonnage mine
The quarry has worked for an estimated 3 day since inception.
if =1440t/day
Tonnage Mined so far = (1440x300 x 3) + (1440 x 150)
= 1,296,000 +216,000
= 1,512,000 T

4. Tonnage in-situ
Tonnage in-situ = Reserve Estimate - Tonnage Mine
= 16,042,951 - 1,512,000
= 14,530, 951 T

3.2.3.4 Product Hauling and Stock Pile

The overall end products of the quarry consist of stone aggregates of the sizes of
3/4" inch (19.05mm), 1 inch (25.4mm), 1/2 inch (12.7mm) and stone dust. These
products are stock piled separately and ready for haulage to civil work sites.

Table 4: Production Plan

S/N ACTIVITIES FREQUENCY OUTPUT

1 Drilling Operation Daily

250 holes of 10m depth and
diameter 25 - 90mm /month

2 Blasting Operation 3-4times/month 27, 538m3 of blasted rock is

moved/day

3 Crushed and Screen for Daily 1440 tonnes/day

Haulage

ANNEXURE THREE
BLASTING ROUND AND EXPLOSIVE CONSUMPTION CALCULATION

1. Blast Design Calculation

No. of holes per month = 250

Average depth of hole = 10m

Spacing = 2m
Burden = 2m

Diameter 25 - 90mm

Volume of rock 10x2x2 = 40m3/hole

For the whole area 40x250 = 10,000m3

Tonnage 10,000x2.66 = 27,000t/month

Yearly production 27,000x12 =324,000t

However, this gives a crushed value of 324,000x1.5 = 486,000 t

(1.5 = swollen factor)

2. Quantity of Explosive Monthly Consumption

Explosive 9kg x 250 = 2,250kg

ANFO 24kg x 250 - 6,000kg

Detonator 250pcs

Yearly Explosive Consumption

Explosive 2,250kg x 12 = 27,000kg

ANFO 6,000kg x 12 = 72,000kg

Detonator 250 x 12 = 3,000pcs

EXPLOSIVES

Table 9: Average Yearly Usage of Explosive

S/N Description Quantity

H.E. (kg) 27,000
ANFO (kg) 72,000
Detonator (pcs) 3,000
