5.1.3 Stormwater and Groundwater. The C o n t r a c t o r ' s r e s p o n s i b i l i t y i n terms o f Sub-
c l a u s e 5.5 of SABS 1200 A or Subclause 5.3 o f SABS 1200 AA, as r e l e v a n t ( r e l a t i n g t o w a t e r o n t h e S i t e ) , w i l l b e h e l d t o i n c l u d e t h e p r o v i s i o n o f adequate p r o t e c t i o n a g a i n s t f l o o d i n g and damage by stormwater, f l o w f r o m s p r i n g s , and seepage, and t o i n c l u d e p r o v i s i o n f o r t h e r e p a i r , a t h i s expense, o f any damage t o t h e Works t h a t may a r i s e as a r e s u l t o f t h e inadequacy o f t h e p r o t e c t i o n p r o v i d e d by him. Except where t h e use o f t r e m i e s has been approved, f o u n d a t i o n e x c a v a t i o n s f o r s t r u c t u r e s s h a l l be k e p t f r e e o f w a t e r a t a l l t i m e s u n t i l t h e y have been i n s p e c t e d and approved and c o n c r e t e f o o t i n g s have been c a s t . 5.1.4 Nuisance 5.1.4.1 D u s t nuisance. Wherever d u s t f r o m t h e Works, h a u l roads, b o r r o w p i t s o r r o a d d e v i a t i o n becomes a n u i s a n c e t o t h e p u b l i c o r damages a d j a c e n t p r o p e r t i e s , t h e C o n t r a c t o r s h a l l , when so o r d e r e d by t h e Engineer, a p p l y s u f f i c i e n t w a t e r o r t a k e o t h e r measures t o l a y t h e d u s t . 5.1.4.2 Water n u i s a n c e . The C o n t r a c t o r s h a l l d r a i n b o r r o w areas t o p r e v e n t p o o l s f o r m i n g . 5.1.4.3 Excavated m a t e r i a l n o t t o endanger o r i n t e r f e r e . A l l excavated m a t e r i a l s h a l l be so d e p o s i t e d as n o t t o i n t e r f e r e w i t h o r endanger t h e Works ( f o r example, by c a u s i n g t h e s i d e s o f a n e x c a v a t i o n t o c o l l a p s e ) , o t h e r p r o p e r t y o r t r a f f i c . The E n g i n e e r may o r d e r t h e C o n t r a c t o r t o remove any m a t e r i a l t h a t t h e Engineer c o n s i d e r s l i a b l e t o endanger o r t o i n t e r f e r e w i t h t h e Works, p r i v a t e p r o p e r t y , t r a f f i c o r p e d e s t r i a n s , and t o p l a c e s u c h m a t e r i a l a t some o t h e r approved l o c a t i o n . I f t h e n e c e s s i t y f o r such removal i s, i n t h e o p i n i o n o f t h e Engineer, a r e s u l t o f some f a u l t on t h e p a r t o f t h e C o n t r a c t o r , t h e c o s t o f removal s h a l l be b o r n e by t h e C o n t r a c t o r , b u t o t h e r w i s e i t w i l l b e borne by t h e Employer. A l l s u r p l u s m a t e r i a l n o t r e q u i r e d f o r b a c k f i l l i n g o r f o r m i n g embankments as i n d i - c a t e d elsewhere i n t h e C o n t r a c t o r as may b e o r d e r e d by t h e Engineer, and m a t e r i a l u n s u i t a b l e f o r b a c k f i l l i n g , f o r m i n g embankments o r t o p s o i l i n g s h a l l be d e p o s i t e d on a s i t e o r s i t e s d e s i g n a t e d b y t h e Engineer and graded t o f r e e - d r a i n i n g s l o p e s . 5.1.5 R e i n s t a t e m e n t and Maintenance o f Roads. The C o n t r a c t o r s h a l l r e i n s t a t e and m a i n t a i n t h e s u r f a c e s o f a l l roadways t h r o u g h which t r e n c h e s o r o t h e r e x c a v a t i o n s have been made. Should any subsidence o c c u r a t t h e s i t e o f such t r e n c h o r o t h e r e x c a v a t i o n , t h e Contractor s h a l l immdediately r e s t o r e t h e road surface t o i t s c o r r e c t l e v e l . Where immediate r e s t o r a t i o n i s i m p r a c t i c a b l e , t h e C o n t r a c t o r s h a l l p r o v i d e b a r r i - cading, l i g h t i n g and o t h e r s a f e g u a r d s i n t e r m s o f 5.1.1 u n t i l r e s t o r a t i o n i s complete. 5.1.6 Road T r a f f i c C o n t r o l . I f s t e e l drums a r e used f o r t h i s p u r - pose, t h e y s h a l l be b a l l a s t e d w i t h s o i l , sand o r s t o n e s and t h e o u t s i d e s h a l l be whitewashed and p r o v i d e d with r e t r o - r e f l e c t i v e m a t e r i a l ( i n t h e case o f tape, o f minimum w i d t h 10 mm), r e d on t h e l e f t - h a n d s i d e f a c i n g oncoming t r a f f i c and w h i t e on t h e r i g h t - h a n d s i d e . The drums s h a l l be m a i n t a i n e d i n a c l e a n and e f f e c t i v e con- d i t i o n and no s t o n e s s h a l l be p l a c e d on them.
5.2 METHODS AND PROCEDURES

U n s u i t a b l e m a t e r i a l s h a l l be d i s p o s e d o f as s p e c i f i e d i n 5.2.2.3. 5.2.1.2 C o n s e r v a t i o n o f t o p s o i l . The C o n t r a c t o r w i l l n o t be r e q u i r e d t o remove t o p s o i l f r o m any area i n w h i c h t h e average d e p t h o f s o i l is l e s s t h a n 150 mm . 5.2.1.3 S t r i p p i n g o r removal o f overburden.
