TIMELINE .............................................................. 16
Our people will always be our
most valuable asset. To
grow and to succeed, and to
honour our legacy as a multi-
national business since the
beginning, we continually
look for the right people to
join our business.

The Airbus Group University Partnership Programme is a valuable way

for us to connect with both the next generation of students as well as
with their teachers. Our network of Ambassadors in each region, and
their insight into our evolving workforce needs is a highly effective way
of connecting with our university partners.

The ability to contribute to a global debate on the competencies and

attributes of the workforce of the future is extremely valuable to our
business. This dialogue also offers an important opportunity for us to
hear from leaders in engineering education about how companies like
Airbus Group can work at a national and local level to ensure that we
are attuned to the priorities and requirements of their students.

I believe that this Programme provides a robust framework for not only
building a bridge to the next generation, but in laying the groundwork
for people to grow and develop in their careers. Graduates equipped
with a realistic view of their workplace, some experience of real world
challenges, and soft skills are more likely to succeed in their chosen
careers. By engaging to develop the full spectrum of desirable skills
and attributes, universities and industry together are building the
foundations for employees to achieve their potential.

Mikael Butterbach, Head of Employment, Competence and

Learning at Airbus Group

Welcome to the Airbus Group
University Partner Programme
Annual Report a chance
to celebrate a year of
achievement and action
for this important network,
and to look ahead to the year
to come.

It was a personal pleasure to meet so many university representatives,

as well as Airbus Group delegates at the event in Paris in June. As we
strive within Airbus Group to balance the talent needs and recruiting
ambitions of our three divisions Airbus Defence and Space, Airbus
Helicopters and Airbus it is essential that we have an open line of
communication to global education leaders.

When anticipating future competency requirements whether for the

next generation of aircraft or for cutting edge satellite technology we
know that it is vital to share and explain our needs with the global
education professionals who are interacting with students, and
shaping engineering education curricula.

The AGUPP network, with its worldwide reach and new university
partners, also facilitates two-way exchange we have found that
working directly with Partners has offered valuable insight into how
industry and academia can partner together in both practical and
strategic ways.

Our dedicated University Ambassadors, working alongside Airbus

Group Focal Points, and our Employment Marketing team have
together made great progress this year I extend my warm thanks
and congratulations to the team on their achievements.

What a year! 2015 was an exciting mix of immediate actions, new

initiatives and long-term ambitions realised, and 2016 promises more
achievements and further consolidation of our shared AGUPP goals.

Over the last year, we have seen nine universities sign formal partnership
agreements with Airbus Group. 2015 was also the year when students
from Georgia Tech took on Airbus Grand Challenge idea around wing
rib design, whilst students at the Tshinghua Summer University gained
insight into careers at Airbus Helicopters during the Summer School
there, and we saw students from AGUPP partner universities Link to
the Top at the inaugural event in India.

Within Airbus Group, a new shared University Relations community on

the company intranet has made it simple for anyone working with
universities to find out about the Programme, and how we are working
with our partner universities.

Looking ahead to 2016, the diary for the year is already filling up. On top of bilateral activities between Airbus
Group and each university, we are particularly excited about projects involving the entire AGUPP network, such
as the Innovation Summer School in partnership with TU Delft and the development of our Internship
programme.

Finally, we are looking forward to welcoming the first generation of students who have benefited from AGUPP
initiatives, and who may even join Airbus Group during their careers.

With this Partnership, we are looking at ways that we can work with Airbus Group to enhance the
experience of our students, such as internships or projects related to aeronautical engineering. Working
with the Ambassadors in our country means that we can communicate directly and move our programme
forward. We are sure that this alliance will help strengthen our students' technical competencies as well
as soft skills.

AIRBUS SHOPFLOOR CHALLENGE AT ICRA 2016

Calling all robotics and automation experts and enthusiasts! The Airbus Shopfloor Challenge invites robotics
teams to create innovative robotic solutions for a real-life aviation manufacturing challenge.

Currently, certain assembly line aircraft manufacturing processes rely on manual labour. This includes drilling
and tightening, often within confined spaces which are unsuitable for the heavy and large-scale robots used
elsewhere on assembly lines.

In this Challenge, selected teams will be invited to design and build an advanced lightweight robotic system
able to perform accurate drilling which compliant with aeronautic standards, and which can be readily integrated
into assembly lines.

The teams will have the chance to showcase their solutions to leaders in the field, and compete live at the IEEE
2016 International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), taking place on the 15-21 May 2016 in
Stockholm, Sweden.

We encourage you to spread the word about the Airbus Shopfloor Challenge a great real world opportunity
for students or university faculty teams, with a cash prize and the potential to develop ideas for commercial
application on offer. The closing date for applications is 15 March 2016, and we advise prospective teams
to take the time to submit the best possible application.

INNOVATION SUMMER SCHOOL
Watch this space! TU Delft and Airbus Group will run the inaugural Innovation Summer School in 2016.
We are excited about developing this initiative with input from all our partner universities and will share
news about how students can apply for this great opportunity shortly.

We asked our colleagues and our Campus Team to share the

benefits of the Airbus Group University Partner Programme from
their perspective. Here's what they told us.

Fabian Von Gleich, Airbus Ambassador, Germany

We can provide students with a better orientation about what Airbus Group is expecting from them,
during their studies, internships and finally when they apply for job s.

Curtis Carson, Head of Research & Technology - Industrial Strategy & Systems at Airbus

The benefit to universities is to expose students and faculty to real-world problems and challenges that
are hard to learn inside a classroom. For Airbus Group, we get an early insight into the strong skills,
knowledge and ideas coming from the next generation and see how we can apply them into the
business.

Guorui Cai, Airbus Ambassador, China

Being an Ambassador offers another view, apart from my daily work. It's a real value-add for the Group,
and also for me as an indivi dual.

Uwe Behrens, Airbus Ambassador, Germany

T he network enables Airbus Group and universities to foster better relations between science and
Industry. Students have the chance to get in touch with the company at an early stage, and Airbus Group
gets the chance to build positive perceptions of the company for future generation s.

10
Cristobal Casado, Airbus Country Manager, Spain and Head of Getafe Site

I see three benefits. First, to help attract the best talent from the universities for Airbus Group. Secondly,
it helps me better understand the new generation of students. And it enables everyone to understand
the synergies and projects of common interest between Airbus Group and universitie s.

Simone Stanchi, Airbus Ambassador, Italy

Preparing presentations for students obliges you to take your head out of the daily job routine and think
more globally about Airbus Groups overall strategy. It is also a very good way to widen your network
and meet new people from diverse horizon s.

Carren Holden, Airbus Ambassador, UK

This Partnership gives us a tremendous opportunity to have access to world class academics in the field
of Big Data, for example. We also have the chance to influence the next generation of engineers coming
through and we are also in turn influencing universities to try to give us more diverse students, particularly
to attract more women to join the Aerospace, Mechanical and Civil Engineering department s.

Bringing three years of discussion and exchange to culmination, the Engineer of the Future white paper will
be shared at the Singapore event.

Since the first international gathering in 2013, AGUPP members have explored the topic of the engineer of the
future in panels and workshops, working groups and individual discussions between company and partner
university representatives. At the same time, the wider industry and academic world has also been actively
engaging with this subject, with some consensus emerging on the most effective strategies for both academia
and for global employers of engineers.

12
The paper offers insight into the key competencies and attributes of the Engineer of the Future, as well as
examples of best practice in training and developing employees with the right profile for future needs. Alongside
this, we have gathered input from AGUPP universities, sharing the key findings from the body of knowledge
that has been developed on the subject, particularly in relation to the changing role of engineers in a global,
connected world.

As well as providing a snapshot of the current ideas and strategy on the subject of the Engineer of the Future,
the paper also highlights recommendations, relevant case studies and examples of best practice, based on
industry research and exchange with AGUPP members.
