Kangkong in Balintawak
- When the Katipunan leaders learned of the arrests, Bonifacio called an assemnly of all
provincial councils to decide the start if the armed uprising.
- The meeting was held at the house of Apolonio Samson at a place called Kangkong in
Balintawak. About 1,000 Katipuneros in Balintawak...
- News reached the leadership of the organization
o Immediately called a meeting of the remaining members: Kangkong, house of
Juan Ramos, Pugadlawin
- First meeting yielded nothing; second meeting, Bonifacio fed up, tore the cedula, and
cried Mabuhay ang kalayaan ng Pilipinas!
o A cry to arms and was echoed by majority of the men in attendance. On
August 24, 1896, the revolution had begun.

- August 30, Katipunan attacked 100 Spanish soldiers defending the powder magazine
in the Battle of Pinaglabanan.
o About 153 Katipuneros were killed, Katipunan had to withdraw
- In the afternoon of the same day, Gov. Gen. Camilo de Polavieja declared martial law
in Manila and other provinces where revolution began (rays of the sun in the
Philippine flag)
