Strategy Role Play Goal/Objective To allow students to understand important concepts in economics by acting them out or role-playing. When to use this strategy This strategy can be used to help instruct students in vocabulary that are difficult to grasp. For many students with communication disorders, it is difficult for them to understand certain, more abstract, concepts. By having students role play these concepts, it helps them remember by presenting multiple ways of knowing. This is known as the tri coding theory.
This can be used to teach any concept, not only
abstract concepts. Having students re-enact historical events is not only fun, but also helps students with communication disorders understand important concepts, as supported by the tri coding theory.
For students who struggle learning from reading or
listening, they can learn more through doing. Step by step instruction- How to use this in 1). Briefly introduce concepts to the concepts of supply a social studies classroom. You will partner and demand, writing the concepts on the board with a classmate to teach them your strategy so be explicit and provide a sample 2). The class is divided into two teams, sellers and for your partner. buyers.
3). The sellers are given an item (penny, bead, or other
small item), and told to sell that item at a particular price.
4). The buyers are told to buy the item at a particular
price (lower than the sellers price)
5). Buyers and sellers then meet (marketplace), and
come to an agreement on the price. The buyers and sellers then write the price on the board.
6). The teacher then briefly debriefs about the price,
and, assuming the price is in the middle of the buyers and sellers prices, discusses the term market equilibrium, and how what they did relates to that concept
7). Teacher repeats the same exercise, only there are
more buyers than sellers. As a result price should rise. The teacher should debrief, discussing the significance of market sacristy. Michael Mongeau
8). The exercise should be repeated a third time, this
time with significantly more buyers than sellers, to represent a market surplus.
