Mechanical Engineering Department

Manufacturing Processes Design & Simulation (M.Tech Production Engineering and Ph.D )

1. What is the difference between static and dynamic models? Give an example of a dynamic
mathematical model.
2. In the automobile wheel suspension system, it is found that the shock absorber damping force
is not strictly proportional to the velocity of the wheel. There is an additional force
component equal to D2 times the acceleration of the wheel. Find the new conditions for
ensuring that there are no oscillations.
3. What are the basic steps to be followed while making a model?
4. Explain the different areas of simulation with its different advantages and disadvantages.
5. Differentiate system and system environment, and also explain different components of
system.
6. What are different types of system model? Explain different steps for development of
discrete event simulation.
7. Briefly explain Monte Carlo method of simulation with an example.
8. Differentiate between continuous and discrete systems with suitable examples?
9. Differentiate between static mathematical and dynamic mathematical models with suitable
example?
10. Explain various steps in simulation study, with help of neat flow diagram?
11. Differentiate between process of verification and validation?
12. Define following system in brief
(i) Discrete system (ii) Continuous system (iii) Stochastic system

(iv) Deterministic system

Assignment-2

Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur

Mechanical Engineering Department

Manufacturing Processes Design & Simulation (M.Tech Production Engineering and Ph.D )

1. What is the difference between a factor and a level?

2. What is meant by the term interaction?
3. How many alternatives will there be in a two-factor, four-level experiment?
4. Why would a practitioner be unlikely to utilize a two-alternative comparison experiment?
5. What is meant by a low level and a high level?
6. List all of the different alternatives that would be present in a 2k-factorial experiment with 1
or 2 cashiers, 2 or 3 car washers, and 4 or 5 car dryers.
7. What is the name of a Design of experiments in which all levels of a given factor are
combined with all levels of every other factor in the experiment (all possible combinations of
the levels of the factors are investigated.)?
8. The difference in response between the levels of one factor is not the same at all levels of the
other factors. (e.g. the effect of factor A depends on the level of factor B). What is the name
of this phenomenon?
9. A Design of experiment model used in screening experiments in which many factors are
considered with the purpose of identifying those factors that have large effects and in which
is assumed that certain high order interactions are negligible.
