Niteen has acquired his BE in Mechanical Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai and is an IIM-Ahmedabad Alumnus. He has worked in
leading organizations for over 14 years in the areas of Technology, Process Engineering and Quality Management. He believes that
teamwork is essential for competing in today's global arena, where high level of collective performance is much more desirable than
individual perfection.

Raghavendra Rao
Raghu has more than 13 years of experience in Software Development, Enterprise IT Architecture Design and Implementation,
Enterprise Databases - Designing and Tuning. He has implemented enterprise systems encompassing software, hardware, networking
and storage solutions for a number of large organizations in his career.

Sujith Nair
Sujith has more than 12 years of experience with leading organizations in the area of logistics operations where he has held country head
responsibilities. He is the domain expert for Chrome's products in the logistics business. Sujith has exceptional team building capabilities

7. PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED

7.1 Operations and Billing System for BCIT and Data Tape Movement
Customer P. N. Writer & Co. Ltd – SafeGuard Division

Brief Description The SafeGuard Division of P. N. Writer & Co. Ltd is in the business of managing the cash transfers for
ATMs of various banks. Apart from this they also transfer cash for banks on an on-call basis. This is
called as Bulk Cash In Transit (BCIT). We developed the system for managing the operations of the
BCIT business.
A contract is signed with the customer for movement of cash. The contract specifies the number of trips
per day or per month, the amount of cash to be carried etc.
The branches enter the trip details on a day to day basis. Other information is updated in the system like
the odometer readings, the personnel on each trip, the times of the trip etc.
Based on the trip details entered in the system at the end of the month billing is done based on the
contract entered in the system for that customer.

Writer SafeGuard is also in the business of moving Data tapes which has highly confidential data for its
customers. A web based system for capturing operations transactions for its tape movement business was
implemented.

The web based system helps in capturing the transactions on a single central database. This helps P. N.
Writer in doing centralized billing without the need to re-enter the transactions at the billing location.
The system helps in monitoring the operations on a day-to-day basis. Various reports on the system help
the company to control operations.

7.2 Change Management System


Customer P. N. Writer & Co. Ltd

Brief Description Writer Corporation had a manual process for Change Request Management for their IT systems. With a
manual process it was difficult to ensure compliance as some of the correspondence regarding change
happened verbally and was hence not documented. Control on the SDLC was also an issue as projects
may not be monitored throughout the various stages of the SDLC. Monitoring of all the issues/ problems/
change requests would be slow. The solution was to automate of the manual Change Request
Management process to close the above mentioned gaps by implementing a Change Management System
(CMS) which simplified the tracking of all requests.

CMS improved compliance and completion of requests within time frames. CMS also improved the
evaluation of the vendors providing software development and support services to Writer Corporation.

The entire process of requisition to fulfillment for any IT requests be it Software, Hardware or any other
will be managed using workflow in the system. Email alerts will be sent to the concerned users with
URL links for action to be taken by the users in the system.

The entire management of the SDLC through the various phases of the SDLC is included in the CMS
system. Other Utilities like training calendar and user feedback are also included in the CMS.

7.3 Courier Operations System (COPS)


Customer Product under Development

Brief Description COPS is a full-fledged system for managing courier operations. The system is feature rich, menu driven,
user friendly and has components for managing all the aspects of large Courier Operations. It has
modules for Admin, HR and Accounting apart from the core operations function. COPS is a distributed
disconnected system which is designed on the principle that a branch, in a courier company's network,
should be able to continue its operations whether connectivity to the Central Server is available or not.
As and when connectivity is available the system self synchronizes.
The primary components of COPS are as follows:

COPS Branch - The COPS Branch system has all the features required for the branch operations in a
courier company. It has modules for not only operations but also for Admin, HR and Accounts. This
system will be used to manage branch operations i.e. pickup, delivery updation, tracking, scanning, and
attendance system for branch employees, accounting system for branch accounting. The system has a
large number of reports for monitoring and controlling day to day branch operations.

EDGE (Enhanced Data Gathering Engine) - EDGE is a state-of-the-art synchronization engine that
continuously synchronizes the branch data with the central server with a miniscule lag in time between
the branch entering the data and it getting reflected on the central server.

TRAXION (Central Server Reporting and Tracking System) - Traxion is the central server component of
COPS which acts as a central repository of all the data of the courier company. This is the database
system on which tracking of consignments is done, customer reports are generated and internal reports
for monitoring and controlling the company operations are generated. The design of the database is such
that it is configurable as per the needs of the customer. Management of master data is also done on the
Traxion system.

7.4 Goldmine – Payment Collections System

Brief Description
Goldmine is a smart client system for the Debt Portfolio Management and Payment Collections industry.
This system allows the tracking of case histories of all the cases allocated to the tele-callers.

Reports are available for monitoring the productivity of the tele-callers, team-leaders, project leaders etc.

It gives up to date information on total promise-to-pays, broken promises, daily collections, completion
of daily ACR and the current status of the debt portfolio. Goldmine can be integrated with dialers and
also the customer’s database using web services standards.

8. PROJECTS UNDER IMPLEMENTATION

8.1 InfoCapture – Segregation and Audit System

Writer Information Management Division offers end to end Information Management Service
Brief Description covering the entire information life cycle which covers - Document collection & verification, Record
collation, indexing & bar coding, Document scanning & imaging, Document & media (CD, Magnetic
Tapes) storage, Digital archiving, Records retrieval & repacking and Secure destruction.

Writer Imaging SBU had a web based system called InfoCapture for managing the day-to-day
operations of the SBU. The existing system has issues of intermittent slow-downs possibly due to
increased operations activity, monthly billing activity and connectivity failure.

The business demands that the operations should continue irrespective of down time in
connectivity. The system should be robust enough to handle large number of users, transactions
and data simultaneously. Because of the above requirements Chrome proposed and implemented
an architecture that enables large number of transactions without slow-down. The architecture
allows users to continue operations as-normal even when connectivity is down.

The system is a distributed disconnected system with each location having its own database. All the
users at a location access the database at that location. This database is synchronized with the
central database on a periodic basis using EDGE. The system currently handles 2.5 Lac transactions
per day with 100 concurrent users in a single location. The system is under the process of being
rolled out across all the branches of Writer Imaging SBU.

8.2 InfoSearch – Web based Search and Retrieval of Images

Writer Information Management Division offers end to end Information Management Service
Brief Description covering the entire information life cycle which covers - Document collection & verification, Record

Writer Imaging SBU wants to provide its customers the capability to search, retrieve and download
scanned images of the documents that are stored on Writer’s servers. The images will be tagged
with certain parameters as required by the customer. The system will allow the customer’s users to
search for the images based on these parameters.

The project involves developing the Interface for identifying and cataloging the images, interfaces
for tagging and entering data, Access control module and EDGE Synchronization Module. The
system is a distributed disconnected system with each location having its own database. All the
users at a location access the database at that location. This database is synchronized with the
central database on a periodic basis using EDGE.

8.3 Inventory Management System


Customer Siddhivinayak Engineering

Brief Description Siddhivinayak Engineering is a leading name in the field of trailer manufacturing with an annual
turnover of more than Rs. 60 Crores. Their manufacturing set up is at Panvel. The head office is at Lower
Parel, Mumbai. The purchase orders are raised on the suppliers from the HO and material is supplied at
the stores is at Panvel.

The inventory system will keep track of the POs and the material received at the stores. The system will
also keep track of all materials issued to the shop floor. Re-order levels will be maintained for all critical
material to avoid stock-outs.

The inventory system will also be used for physical material reconciliation.

8.4 Costing System


Customer Siddhivinayak Engineering
Brief Description After the inventory system in implemented Siddhivinayak Engg. wants to implement a costing system. The
costing system will have a template for standard costs for the various trailer types manufactured. The
template will include all material costs and labour costs.

A job sheet will be created for a new manufacturing job. The job will be assigned to a supervisor. Multiple
jobs can be assigned to a supervisor. Each job will have a team of people working on it. This team will be
attached to the job. This will determine the labour costs.

The material costs will come from the material issued to the job from the inventory system. When the job is
completed and it is marked as completed in the system all the costs accumulated to the job will give the
actual direct costs. This can be compared with the standard cost to arrive at variance.
