Integumentary System Lab Report

Intro Paragraphs

The Integumentary System is the largest muscle in the body. It consisted of the
hair, skin, nails, and exocrine glands(refer to figure 1a and 1b). Here on figure 1. You
can see skin closely identified. The Hair follicle, Sebaceous gland and the Meissner's
Corpuscle. Each is located in the Epidermis region. The sebaceous gland secretes oil
and sweat. The Hair Follicle is your hair and how deep it goes into your skin layers.
Below this figure there is figure 2. Which shows the epidermis and dermis. It also shows
the main areas of new cells being formed and old cells being shed off the skin.

The function of homeostasis is to control and maintain a normal balance of body

temperature, water concentration and food intake. This class data was to see how many
sweat glands that be could be found on the skin, each bar represents class data and
individual data. The data was took 1cm by 1cm carbohydrate paper and clean the
area with iodine. As soon as the iodine dried we took the paper and stuck to our iodine
area. Then we waited for a minute until we finally started seeing some small brown dots.
That was our eccrine sweat gland producing the sweat from the paper being on our
skin.

Another part of the Integumentary System that we tested is the touch receptors.
The Eccrine Sweat Gland graph Figure 2. Figure 3. We took the average of our
recordings to get what our outcome of the homunculus would become. The Homunculus
was a two-point discrimination which is figure 4. These indicated our feeling receptors in
our body and some are stronger than the other. There is a more dominant side here
and that is the left side so that means there is more touch and feel receptors on that
side that was able to be picked up.

The Skin System is not always a good thing. If you do not take care of your skin
you can experience negative things. On our case study (refer to figure 5) we studied
Mark, who was very weak , nauseous, and disoriented. He had no clue what was wrong
so he went and got checked out. Mark found out that he was dehydrated and had an
heat stroke and first degree burns, that can be caused from harmful UV rays or it can be
passed through your DNA. Becoming dehydrated, having heat stroke, and first degree
burns can come from being in the heat to long.

This is the Human scalp follicle. It was drawn based off a computer screen and was
made to make sure the student had all the right labels.

Figure 3.This graph shows the records of the body area using the two-point
method. The recordings was done in the lab using a protractor two-point threshold.

This is the Homunculus lab done by the student and this is how close the receptors are
to each body region.

be collected.
