SAMR/ISTE
1. My personal technology goals include learning how to use a Smart Board to its full
potential, learning how to implement the use of technology into my lessons, learning
understanding which specific websites or programs are the right choice to use with my
students in the early childhood education field. I also want to become more aware of
how to generally integrate any type of technology into the classroom with such young
aged children. Throughout elementary school in my small town, we were never exposed
to the use of technology directly within the classroom. We had the opportunity to go to
the computer lab to learn basic functions of a computer, but mostly just to learn how to
type. I was never exposed to using tablets or iPads within my classroom within
elementary school, so that is something I want to learn more about as a future educator
trying to incorporate technology throughout the schools curriculum. I want to learn and
the device. When it comes to my personal experience with technology, I am pretty well-
rounded. I do own several pieces of technology and am aware (mostly) of how they all
function. There are a great number of questions that I would definitely want to be
contributions and exhibit empathetic behavior online that build relationships and
community. I believe that with the use of technology, students will be able to enter
that realm of the digital world which is so prominent todays society. Through the
digital world, they will learn the boundaries when it comes to portraying the right
behavior online. Students can build positive relationships with one another, instead of
heading towards the dark path that ultimately ends with cyberbullying. They will have
opportunities to create their own blogs, websites, galleries, etc., that they can use as an
outlet express themselves. There are endless positive possibilities that the digital world
allows for. Another ISTE standard that I would like to implement in my classroom would
an educator to realize that not every single student learns the same way as another
student or even in the way you are teaching. It is our role as teachers to take that into
account and create certain activities and lessons that are accustomed to each student
within our classroom. With this standard in mind, I want to make sure I can provide each
of my students with their own personalized learning experience, especially with the help
and guidance of technology. Technology will allow me to use devices in the classroom
that each student would be able to rely on to fit their needs. As a single human, it is
obviously not possible for me to attend to every single childs needs simultaneously.
However, with the help of technology, each childs needs will be attended to over time.
3. I believe that it would be important for the students in my classroom to know and
understand the ISTE Standards for Students because it sets boundaries of what is
acceptable versus what is not throughout the digital world. It teaches them about what
they are responsible for knowing when they enter that realm. The ISTE Standards also
provide a standard in which the students are able to express oneself online. Self-
this standard in mind, the student is able to portray that self-expression in the digital
world. These standards also include ways in which a student can overcome challenges
and figure out solutions to problems using technology. They are able to use digital tools
to solve these problems which enables them to the idea of being multi-modal.
4. Looking at the SAMR Model, I notice that there are 4 stages in which technology is
can be used in the classroom by following each of the stages or steps as follows. Within
the classroom, a lesson is being taught in which the student must illustrate a picture
relating to their favorite scene of book that was just read, using materials such as
crayons, markers, and paper. Through Substitution, the student would use technology
by using a painting program on the computer to illustrate that picture, instead of using
the original materials. Moving on to the use of Modification, the student would then
take their picture they just digitally drew and turn it into a movie, (maybe using iMovie
or another movie-making program) which includes several different pictures the student
has drawn relating to the storyline as well. By turning the single digital drawing into a
variety of multiple drawings, the student would have the opportunity to add music or a
recording of their own voice over the series of drawings, as if they were reenacting the
scenes, or maybe even creating their own storyline. This allows for creativity and self-
