Calc for Demineralized Water System

1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The purpose of this calculation is to determine the following for Demineralized Water Sysytem for PACO Coal Fired Power Plant:
1.1 Capacity of Mixed Bed (MB) Units for Demineralization System

2 DESIGN INPUT
2.1 HP steam flow from superheater outlet at TMCR condition 478.40 t/hr Reference 7.2
2.2 HP steam flow from superheater outlet at Rated Output (RO) condition 451.32 t/hr Reference 7.2
2.3 TG cycle make up water as a % of HP steam flow from superheater outlet (RO condition) for 3 % Reference 7.4
design purpose
2.4 Density of Demineralized Water @ 35 0C 994.038 kg/m3 Reference 7.5
2.5 There shall be 2 x 100% mixed bed units, each sized for both Units. Reference 7.1
2.6 Quality of input Sea water to MVC Unit and Qualitiy of Distillate output from MVC Unit Reference 7.6
2.7 Maximum TDS in the distillate output from MVC Unit 25.00 mg/L Reference 7.6
2.8 Average and maximum temperature of distillate output from MVC Unit is 25 0C and 30 0C, Reference 7.6
respectively
2.9 The demineralized water system shall be designed to produce demineralized water with the Reference 7.3
following effluent quality:
a) Sodium 0.005 mg/L Na
b) Chloride 0.003 mg/L Cl
c) Sulfate 0.003 mg/L SO4
d) Silica 0.010 mg/L SiO2
e) Specific concuctivity 0.100 microS/cm
f) Total organic Carbon 0.100 mg/L C

3 ASSUMPTIONS (V: Verified; UV: Unverified; EJ: Engineering Judgement)

3.1 Regeneration water quantity as % of net capacity of Mixed bed unit. 5 % UV
3.2 Boier blowdown % of HP steam flow from superheater outlet TMCR condition 0.5 % EJ

4 METHODOLOGY AND ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

4.1 Net capacity of each Mixed bed unit will be rated to supply the maximum expected simultaneous demand of Demineralized make-up for
TG cycle for both units of the power plant, rounded up to the nearest 1 cum/hr
4.2 Gross capacity of Mixed Bed unit of Demineralization system will be M/U water flow plus the average water requirement for
regeneration of Mixed bed vessel. Regeneration water quantity is to be verified later after receipt of finalised vendor document.
5 CALCULATIONS

6 RESULTS
6.1 Design capacity (net) of each Mixed bed unit of Demineralized water system 28.00 m3/hr
6.2 Design capacity (gross) of each Mixed bed unit of Demineralized water system 29.40 m3/hr
6.3 The demineralizer system shall be designed to treat distillate from a thermal desalination 25.00 mg/L
process which content maximum TDS
6.4 Maximum temperature of distillate for designing of demineralizer system 30.00 0
C
6.5 The demineralized water system shall be designed to produce demineralized water with the
following effluent quality:
a) Sodium 0.005 mg/L Na
b) Chloride 0.003 mg/L Cl
c) Sulfate 0.003 mg/L SO4
d) Silica 0.010 mg/L SiO2
e) Specific concuctivity 0.100 microS/cm
f) Total organic Carbon 0.100 mg/L C
