Lesson Planning

Waynesburg University

Writing the lesson plan:

Translating thoughts into a plan of action
_____________________________________________
Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s) addressed during this lesson:
(Provide Standard number and statement)
• 3.1.7.A: Explain the parts of a simple system and their relationship to each other.
• 3.3.7.B: Describe the cell as the basic structural and functional unit of living things.

Lesson Objective(s) :
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)
• The students will identify the main organelles of a cell.
• The students will describe the function of each organelle in a cell.
• The students will differentiate between organelles in a plant cell and an animal cells.
• The students will create a Photostory on a cell organelle.

Assessment Plan:
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
• The students will be assessed on their Photostory presentations. After each student
presents their presentation, they will be asked questions by the teacher and the class. The
student will be assessed on the accuracy of their answers.

Materials:
• Biology book.
• Notebook.
• Writing utensil.
• Computer access.

Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:

• The students will be given more time to complete their assignment.

Enrichment Techniques:

• The students will be asked to provide more images in their presentation and provide more
in depth discussion about their topic.
Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL
students have access to and are able to participate in the lesson):
• The students will be given a lesson on how to operate the Photostory program. The
student body will be paired in mixed groups while learning the skill required to use
Photostory.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:
• The teacher will play a game of hangman with the students. The words used in the games
will be different types of organelles. The students will guess the letters until the words are
revealed. A list of all the words used in the game will be posted on the board so the
students can have a complete list of organelles that may be used for the presentation.

Detailed Teaching Sequence:

(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted
statements are preferred)
• The students will complete the anticipatory set.
• The students will decide which organelle they will use in their presentation.
• The students will create an outline for their presentation.
• The students will go to a computer to begin creating their presentation.
• The will look for photos of their organelle using approved search engines.
• The students will save the photos to their computer's desktop.
• The students will then begin to create their Photostory.
• After their Photostory is finished the students will save it to the computer's desktop.
• The students will save all progress before the class ends.
• The students will present their presentations to the class.
• The class will ask questions to the student presenting.
Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities
• The students will be creating a Photostory presentation. The students will have to collect
images from the internet or have pictures scanned onto the computer. The students will
then have to save the images/pictures to the computer. The students will then be able to
edit the photos and create/add music to the presentation. The students will also have to
save the file appropriately.

Closure:
• If the students are not completed with their presentation, the students will save their
materials to the desktop.
• When the class has completed their presentations, the students will begin to present their
information to the class.
• The students will ask questions about the presentations.
