THE COLLEGE COAT OF ARMS

The Crescent and the star remind us of the eternal law of

submission to the will of God, governing the universe. The sea
stands for the vast treasure house of opportunities ever open to
the seekers. The coconut palms constitute the economic basis of
the region. The open book and the lighted candle symbolize the
mental and moral enlightenment.

The College colours are Yellow, Green and white

symbolizing auspiciousness, prosperity and purity respectively.

Meaning of the holy inscription on the emblem

We invoke the blessings of God on us. The light which

will be granted to us should be made whole and perfect. This
light will see us through the encircling darkness in the Hereafter
until we reach the eternal abode of Peace and Bliss.

2
VISION

Our Vision is to inculcate religious and moral values in

students and toimpart training to them so as to have an all
round development of their personality.

MISSION

To provide cost effective and quality higher education

to cater for the educational needs of the Muslim
community and other socially and economically
disadvantaged members of the society, including the
fishing folk.

To achieve excellence in teaching, learning and research.

To foster innovation and creativity.
To promote economic and community development
through entrepreneurial spirit and productive
partnership.

To support the growing diversity of education.

To develop leadership qualities in students.

[Nationally Reaccredited with B Grade by NAAC]

ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016 - 17

In the name of Allah the most beneficent and the most merciful

Respected Administrator of MKN Madharasa Trust and its

educational institutions, esteemed chief-guests, members of the
teaching and non-teaching fraternity, members of the Press and
Electronic Media, ambitious students, ladies and gentlemen, indeed,
I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude at your massive response
to our kind invitation. Let me take this opportunity to thank you all
for gracing this grand occasion with your august presence. I am
very happy to extend a cordial welcome to you all to this 62nd
College Day function and also feel happy to present the Annual
Report for the academic year 2016 - 17.

Homage to Founders

On this happy occasion, commemorating the founders and

the great donors and remembering their charitable acts are our
bounden duty. The beacons of this small town, Janab Khadir
Mohideen Maraicar, the great benefactor and his bounteous brothers
Janab. M.K.N.Naina Mohammed Labbai Maraicar, Janab. Ahamed
Thambi Maraicar, and Haji. Janab. Sheik Salath Maraicar donated
their huge wealth of thousands of acres of landed property to the
noble cause of intellectual enlightment of their people. Let us feel
elated by this benign nature at this juncture and pay homage to them
for their humanitarian acts.

M.K.N. Mathursa was established in 1901 with the prime

aim of disseminating Islamic thoughts in this region. Perceiving the
need of the hour, the great donors distinguished grandson Late
Haji.S.M.S.Shaik Jalaludeen extended the benefits of the trust to all
sections of people. Motivated by the high spirits of modern
education, he started our college, Khadir Mohideen Boys Higher
Secondary School, Khadir Mohideen Girls Higher Secondary
School and Salahiya Arabic College in this remote coastal town.
6
May the Almighty shower His choicest blessings upon all
the patrons and the founder for their noble acts! May I also beseech
Allahs blessings on these institutions to flourish and cater to the
needs of the people in the years to come!

Profile of the College

Education is indispensable for creating enlightened societies.
Only men with mission can breathe life into education. Educationist
Late Haji.S.M.S.Shaik Jalaludeen, is remembered for the generous
contribution he made to the cause of education by establishing
Khadir Mohideen College in 50 acres as a religious minority
institution with the primary objective of providing higher education
to the downtrodden and socially backward sections of the society in
general and Muslim minority in particular.
Khadir Mohideen College was founded in 1955 as an affiliated
college to the University of Madras and then was affiliated to the
Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, when it was formed in
1982. The college was reaccredited with B grade by NAAC in
2011. This great sanctuary of higher learning has produced a
number of academicians, scientists, administrators, intellectuals,
politicians, computer professionals, police officials, dedicated
teachers and reputed citizens of India.

Admission & Strength

As our college was started with the sole aim of addressing

the upliftment of the poor, large numbers of backward caste,
scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students were admitted to our
college in all 42 academic programmes. The total number of
students in this academic year is 2789.

BEWARE OF KIDNEY STONES

P.Durga II M.A., English

No medicine is needed to ones body if one

eats after ensuring that

the food already consumed is fully digested

and waste executed.

942 Thirukural.

Today one of the serious problems faced by the

people is kidney stone disease. What is kidney? How is it
functioning? What are the symptoms and medications to be
taken? What food has to be taken and to be avoided to
maintain good health is discussed here.

Kidney is reddish brown in colour, shaped like a

bean, lying below the lower spine of the body. Each man
has two kidneys. Kidney contains more than a million little
filtering units called nephrons. Each hour both the kidneys
filter twice the total blood of the body. During filtration, it
does not allow red blood cells (or) large particles of
essential blood proteins through the filters. In the filter
(tubules), 99 percent of fluid is reabsorbed, so essential
vitamins, amino acids, letting the protein to escape from
blood. Sometimes tubules may be inflamed due to solid
matter like cells, fats, protein solidities.

From time to time these wastes are flushed out by

urine. This can be identified by blood test also.

If urine is cloudy, smoky or mahogany coloured,

nausea, blurred vision and weariness are the symptoms of
kidney problem. Drinking more fluids is the best way to

51
prevent all types of kidney stone. Orange juice and
lemonade also help. People who have already calcium
stones should avoid certain high maleate foods: spinach,
beetroot, strawberries, figs, chocolate, wheat bran, guava,
tomato, peanut and almonds. Also avoid grape juice, apple
juice, corn syrup and soft drinks.

People who are having high blood pressure,

triglyceride, abdominal fat, insulin resistance and low
levels of good HDL cholesterol have a much higher risk of
developing kidney stones medication or surgery.

Formation of kidney stones can be avoided by an

adequate fluid intake. The equivalent of nine glasses of
water a day is enough. Sometimes filters or nephrons are
infected due to infection, accidents and burns. It can be
controlled by anti-biotics.

The ageing process sometimes may lead to the renal

arteries to harder, narrow and become inelastic and this
causes reduction in blood supply. So, toxic waste piles up
and allow sodium, potassium, chloride and other things to
get out of normal balance, even if 90% of nephrons stop
functioning wise medical and dictator management can
provide long years of life, if one keeps an ever vigilant eye
on salt, potassium and other substance in food to maintain
them in exact balance.

The basic test of kidney function is urine analysis, to

test whether the urine contains protein. The presence of
protein indicates that filtered glucose, hormones and so on
return to the blood stream but excess of any of them is
discarded in urine. Kidney keeps vigilant on potassium
level. The low or high level potassium causes serious
problems. Protein digestion yields the final product. Low
52
level leads to liver damage. High level leads to urenic
poisoning. This is watched by kidney and extracted excess
in Urine. It increases the blood flow to internal organs due
to anger, blood pressure which results in increased urine
output. If you consume alcohol you will have mild
dehydration while nicotine in cigarette has opposite effect
and the person urinates less frequently.

If urine is too concentrated, there is a possibility of

formation of kidney stone, due to calcium salts, oxalates,
picric acid crystallization. If stone is gravel size then it
passes through urine without the knowledge of person. If
the size is like a pea or big it needs medical help.

Symptoms:

Acute pain which starts in the back between

the ribs and the pelvis, which gradually travels down to
groin area persist until the stone is passed in the urine.

Treatment:

For calcium stones doctors advise thiazide diuretic

(which reduces the amount of calcium in the urine) with
potassium cirate to cut the risk of future stones.

Taking vitamin-C will also help restore the urines

acidity and prevent the formation of bacteria.

Vitamin B3 helps to control the production of

calcium oxalate. This vitamin is found in meat, grains and
cereals.
Natural remedy(Block):
To relieve pain and help to get rid of kidney stone it
is recommended to take baths upto the waist(10 min) with
cold and warm water alternating baths in waist deep water,

53
when the symptom begins. This is done to reduce the
abdominal swelling.

Health is very important. After 40 years all should

keep a watch on health. They also should have an eye on
their diet and regular exercise will help to keep the body fit.

TEACHERS

S.Lakshmi III B.A., English

Teachers are like Pens

They write good thoughts in our hearts
They are like Pencils too....
For they draw the character of our life
Teachers are like Sketch Pens
They make our life Colourful
They are also like Erasers
Who erase bad thoughts from our hearts
They are like Sharpeners too
They Sharpen our knowledge
Teachers are like a Pair of Compass
They draw a perfect future for us
Never forget teachers
They play an important role
In every phase of our life.........

NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION (NFC)

Mr. A. Haja Abdul Khader,

Asst. Professor of Computer Science

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-

range wireless connectivity standard (ECMA-340, ISO/IEC
18092) that uses magnetic field induction to enable
communication between devices when they're touched
together, or brought within a few centimeters of each other.
Jointly developed by Philips and Sony, the standard specifies
a way for the devices to establish a peer-to-peer (P2P)
network to exchange data. After the P2P network has been
configured, another wireless communication technology, such
as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, can be used for longer range
communication or for transferring larger amounts of data.

NFC (near field communication) is the technology that

allows two deviceslike your phone and a payments
terminalto talk to each other when theyre close together.
NFC is the technology that enables contactless payments.

NFC (near field communication) is what enables two

devices to communicate wirelessly when theyre close
together. NFC is actually a subset of something called RFID
(radio-frequency identification), a technology that allows us to
identify things through radio waves. RFID is nothing newits
been used for decades for things like scanning items in
grocery stores and luggage on baggage claims, and tagging
cattle.
84
NFC, which was introduced in the early 2000s,
uses a specific RFID frequency (13.56MHz, to be exact)
for close-range communications. To date, one of the
more common uses for NFC is identification cards to gain
access to places like office buildings and private
garages. But increasingly, NFC is being used to power
something called contactless payments.

A contactless payment is a transaction that

requires no physical contact between a device (aka a
smartphone) and a payments terminal. Meaning, people
can just hold up their mobile devices to pay.

NFC is the technology thats at play hereits the

way the mobile device and the NFC-enabled point-of-
sale system talk back and forth to each other to process
a payment. The devices do have to be close, though

85
(thats where the near part of near field communication
comes in). For a contactless payment to go off
seamlessly, you usually have to hold your phone two
inches or less from the reader.
When a contactless payment is initiated (by a
customer holding or tapping a mobile device to the
payments terminal), the NFC technology goes to work.
Using that specific frequency we talked about, the NFC-
enabled reader and the smartphone pass encrypted
information back and forth to each other to complete the
payment. This all takes just seconds. Speed, in fact, is
one of the coolest parts of NFC payments. They take a
fraction of the time of magstripe and chip card
transactionsand are leagues faster than cash.
