Assignment
The Functional Assessment-Based Intervention (FABI) assignment was a course project

that consisted of 6 steps and was completed as a group project. The first step of the project

required us to identify students who need a FABI, followed by conducting the functional

assessment, then collecting baseline data, designing the intervention, testing the intervention,

and, finally, completing the teacher post-intervention checklist. The assignment encompassed

the entirety of the FABI process.

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment, per the course syllables, is to provide you an

opportunity to design, implement, and evaluate a functional assessment-based intervention

(FABI), following the Umbreit, Ferro, Liaupsin, and Lane (2007) model. This is an applied

assignment, where you and/or a group will work in an applied setting, with an actual student or

other individual. This project allowed us to put the FABI system into practice, with the

necessary guidance to learn from the process.

Revision

The revisions I completed for this assignment were based on the professors feedback

throughout the assignment. The revisions were not difficult to complete as they directly related

to the assignment. It was nice to review the intervention process and the interventions we put

into place.

Professional Development

As a resource teacher, a large part of my job is implementing interventions, especially

behavior interventions. One of the most difficult parts of the job is ensuring that the correct data

is collected, in the correct manner. I feel confident coming up with interventions, but this

assignment allowed me to practice, and think deeper, about the data collection methods that are

best for specific intervention needs. I especially appreciated the detailed, honest feedback

provided by the professor. It allowed me to grow in the profession. Furthermore, the group

aspect of the project helped me to practice my collaboration skills that are essential to the job.
