Sustainable Development for Women of FayoumThese three sets of statistics made Fayoum one of the governorates most in need of
developmental projects that aim at improving the standards of living, empowering
individuals at all levels, and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development for its
residents. In this context, the Association for the Development and Enhancement of Women
(ADEW) is collaborating with the Italian-Egyptian Debt Swap Programme, under the overall
supervision of the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, and the Italian
Embassy in Cairo/ Italian Agency for Development Cooperation , to implement "Tamkeen
Project in Fayoum Governorate”.

Al Ameriya and Abu El So’oud), which are considered three of the most needy

“Tamkeen", says:
“| didn’t know how to read or write. Once,
my daughter had a Qur'an competition
and asked me to help her memorize the
verses. | felt weak as | couldn’t. She said
something that | will never forget. It broke
many things inside of me. She said: “if my
grandfather had sent you to school and
you were able to read and write, you would
have been able to help me compete and
win". After hearing this from her, | went
immediately to the literacy class. | didn’t
think twice. | started to learn and study. |
had hope that my life would be better. And
indeed now, | know how to read, write and
memorize Qur'an. | knew how to help my
daughter. She participated in three
competitions and she won.”

(ADEW)
ADEW is a non-governmental organization registered in 1987 under
registration number 3528. ADEW has been working in the field of
development for more than 29 years in the most impoverished and
marginalized areas in Cairo, Qalyubiyah, El-Fayoum and Helwan. During
its 29 years of work and through providing a set of well integrated
programs for the empowerment of FHHs and their families on all levels,
ADEW has succeeded in enhancing the standard of living of more than
375,000 families in its work areas.
