Passive Troubles for Halloween

This exercise should help in minimizing your passive troubles.


You will do two things:
First, identify the Subject + Verb + Object (S+V+O) of each sentence;
Second, change the sentence to passive keeping the same tense as in the original
sentence.
Look at this example:

1. Kenny and his dad bought a pumpkin to place in front of their house.
a. What is the of this sentence?
Subject Kenny and his dad
Verb bought
Object a pumpkin
b. Now make the change. Begin with the Object as your new subject. Use the
appropriate tense of be and the past participle of the main verb. Add the
by phrase; and write the rest of the sentence.
Passive sentence: A pumpkin was bought by Kenny and his dad to place in front of
their house.

2. The children wear interesting costumes for Halloween.


Subject: The children
Verb: wear
Object: interesting costumes
Passive Sentence: interesting costumes are worn by the children for hallowen

3. Some people place scarecrows in their front lawns.


Subject: some people
Verb: place
Object: scarecrows
Passive sentence: scarecrows are placed by some people in their front lawns

4. Children carry a bag or sack for their candy.


Subject: children
Verb: carry
Passive sentence: a bag or sack is carried by children for their candy

5. Children place the candy inside the bag or sack.


Subject: children
Verb: place

Passive sentence: the candy is placed by children inside the bag or sack

6. Some grown-ups scare the children as they go up the door to ring the bell.

7. Usually, one of the parents accompanies the children as they go trick or treating.

Passive sentence: usually, the children are accompanied by one of the parents as
they go trick or treating

8. When the children get home, the parents check the candy to make sure it is okay.

Passive sentence: when the children get home, the candy is checked by the parents
to make sure it is okey.

9. Some people watch movies and tell scary stories.


Subject: some people
Verb: watch, tell
Object: movies, scary stories
Passive sentence: movies are watched and scary movies are told by some people

10. Do people celebrate Halloween in your country?


Subject: people
Verb: celebrate
Object: halloween

Passive sentence: is hallowen celebrated by people in your country?

Matter is divided by three form, those are solids, liquids and gases. Solids
and liquids can be measured with a temperature degrees in celsius and
fahrenheit. Matter can be changed that are physical and chemical. The
changes in physical are boiling, freezing, dissolving and evaporating.
Meanwhile, the changes in chemical are burning and rusting. Matter has
properties. Those properties are mass and volume. Mass is measured in
ounces or grams by using a balance. Meanwhile, volume is measured in cubic
inches or milimeters by using a graduated cylinder.
