Chapter 3

Methods of Research and Procedures

This chapter presents the method of research design and procedures, nature and
description of respondents, samples and sampling procedures and research instrument
that will be used for the treatment of data including statistical tools and equipment.
Design of Research
The researchers use normative-correlational method of research in utilizing this
investigation it attempts to determine and analyze the extent of the relationship between
customer satisfaction and consumer spending growth. The rationale and vindication of
this study depends to the responses of the corresponding respondents of Cut
Encarnacion Group of Salon along Guitnangbayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal or the
relationship between customer satisfaction and consumer spending growth.
Population and Sampling
The study made use of random sampling procedure. The respondents of this
study were chosen randomly through the use of Slovins Formula.
Respondents of the Study
There were forty-five (45) respondents of this study. Those respondents were the
customers of Cut Encarnacion Group of Salon in Guitnangbayan 1, San Mateo, Rizal.
Table 1 to 2 shows the basic information on profile of the respondents in terms of
sex, frequency and percent.

1 + 0.0025()
N = Population Size

The respondents were selected according to sex using Slovins Formula.

Table 1
Distribution of respondents according to sex

Sex Frequency Percent

Male 11 24.44

Female 34 75.56

Total 45 100.00

As reflected in the table, there were 11 on 24.44 male respondents and 34 on

75.56 who were female respondents with the total of 45 or 100 percent.
This shows that there were more female respondents in the study in comparison
to the male respondents.

Table 2
Distribution of respondents according to age

Age Frequency Percent

18 30 28 62.22

31 and above 17 37.78

Total 45 100.00

As shown in the table, 28 out of 45 or 62.22 percent of the respondents are

ranging from 18 years old to 30 years old. The respondents who are 31 years old and
above covered 37.78 percent of the total respondents.
Research Instrument
The researcher will use a survey questionnaire form in collecting data and
information. It will distribute to the respondents needed in the study. One advantage in
using the questionnaire was that the respondents names were secured and anonymous
since it is optional. With that, they can answer everything truly and assuredly. The
questionnaire prepared by the researcher was made as the basis of this study. Upon
consultation with the researchers teacher. To validate the questionnaire the researcher,
administer the survey questionnaire to the customer of Cut Encarnacion Group of Salon
in San Mateo, Rizal. In getting the total number of respondents, the researchers used
the following formula:

1 + 0.0025()
The respondents were selected using stratified sampling. The survey
questionnaire used is composed of two major parts, namely:
PART I Seeks information on the profile of respondents.
PART II Seeks answer with regards to the extent of implementation of the
different basic components as perceived by the group of respondents, the customers of
Cut Encarnacion Group of Salon in Guitnangbayan 1.
Data Gathering Procedure
A permission to conduct the study was first accomplished by the researcher.
After the permission was approved, the research adviser checked the content of survey
questionnaire made by the researcher.
The distribution of the questionnaire was personally administered by the
researcher to the respondents which consist of 11 male customers and 34 female
customers of Cut Encarnacion Group of Salon.
Treatment of Data
The following statistical tool was used in the analysis of data to be gathered:
1. Slovins Formula it is used to get the samples in the population of the
respondents.
This Formula is:

1 + 0.0025()
Where N is equals to Population size
2. Percentage this is a numerical analysis to describe or compare magnitude.
3. Pearson r refers to the correlation between sets of data on how will they are
related.
This formula is:
( ) ( )( )
=
[ 2 ( )2 ][ 2 ( )2 ]

n = Sampling size
xy = variables
The legend to the survey questionnaire were expressed in five categories.

Option Equivalent Points Verbal Description

5 4.5 5.0 VERY EVIDENT

4 3.5 4.40 EVIDENT

3 2.5 3.49 MODERATELY EVIDENT

2 1.5 2.49 SLIGHTLY EVIDENT

1 1.0 1.49 NOT EVIDENT
