2. Identify ways people can give thanks to God
3. Recall aspects in their life they wish to thank God for, such as family, friends etc
Timing Steps of the Lesson Resources
5mins Introduction
1. Inside-Outside circle. The inside circle is to tell the outside circle 5 things
they wish to thank God for. The outside circle is to tell the inside circle 3
ways they may say thank you to others (e.g writing a card, doing something
thoughtful, verbally giving thanks). After a few rounds, inside and outside
circle swap (inside students- ways of saying thank you, outside circle-
things thankful for). Try to encourage students to come up with new ideas
each round.
30mins Personal and social- students reflect upon what they are thankful for, and
reflect upon ways they say thank you to others

Strategies for Learning and Teaching

1. Have students seated in front of teacher on the mat area.

2. Teacher to ask for student volunteers to share their answers of how they
may say thank you to others. Teacher to elaborate on answers where
necessary.

3. Inform students of different ways as Catholics we may give thanks to God Picture cue-cards (example below)
by using picture cue-cards and sticking them up on the board. Teacher to
show students picture cue-cards and students are to identify the way the
cartoon/character in the picture is giving thanks to God.
Note- the Eucharist symbol should be shown last, and should be a bit
larger than the other pictures to emphasise its importance
The title ways we can say thank you to God should be written above
picture cards

Picture cue card answers include:

Through prayer
Appreciation and care of Gods creation
Kind actions and love towards others
Going to mass and receiving the Eucharist

4. Explain to the students that Catholics celebrate the Eucharist as a way of

saying thank you to God for the many things God provides.
Sharing Jesus Special Meal- Year 3
Jesus and the disciples gathered for the Last Supper as a celebration to
give thanks to God. One of the most important reasons that Jesus changed
the bread and wine into His Body and Blood was to teach all of His followers
that the Eucharist is a celebration for which we thank God.
When we say thank you to someone we feel good dont we? (wait for
student response). By saying thank you to God, it helps us grow closer to
Him.

5. Students are then required to create a Word Cloud of the different things in
their life they wish to say thank you to God for. The largest text in their
word cloud needs to be Thank You God. Students can be as creative as
they like with their word clouds which will be printed and hung up around https://wordart.com
the class.

ICT Capability- students show what they are thankful for through the creation of a
Word Cloud online
Faith- students give thanks to God, worship Him for certain things in their lives
Charity- students adopt habits of thanksgiving, thanking God for what they have

10mins Conclusion
6. Bring students back to mat. Remind the students that when they next
celebrate the Eucharist, they should thank God for the things listed in their
word clouds.
7. Explain to students that, particularly in Australia, we have a lot to be
thankful for so it is important that they give thanks to God for what they
have.

Pair-Share:
With the person sitting next to them, students have to say one thing about
their partner that they are thankful for e.g their musical talent, their
friendship etc
Catering for Learner Diversity Evidence of Learning for Assessment and Reporting
Picture cue-cards used to cater for visual learners as Student word clouds will be collected as work samples
