Discuss about the topics

Notes:

Topics that we chose are: The American Revolution, Niccolo Machiavelli, Martin Luther, Machiavellianism,
Rationalism, and Colonization.

We plan about what will the final product looks like. (What kind of video, how long, information to add). The
film will be around 4-5 minutes.

We research some basic information about the American revolution.

The American Revolution known as the American Revolutionary War and the U.S War of Independence.

started as a conflict between Great Britain and thirteen Colonies which proclaimed autonomy as the United
States of America.

Reflection:

This class we can almost finish all of our goals which are choose the topics and brainstorming about the final
product but we have not discuss about all topics because the time is limited so we decided to research the
information of our main topic first which is the American revolution. Next class we will continue to research for
the basic information about the topics we already chose. Therefore, it will help us to understand the overview
and we can connect it together later.

My topics are Niccolo Machiavelli and Colonization.

Niccolo Machiavelli was an Italian diplomat, politician, historian, philosopher, humanist, and writer of the
Renaissance period. He has regularly been known as the father of modern political science.

One of Machiavelli's most outstanding quotes is on the advantage of love versus fear.

Colonization is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country,

occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.

Reflection: Today I focus on finding the basic information of the topics I got. I knew the basic concept of
Niccolo Machiavelli but for the topic colonization, I found only its definition and I do not really understand
about it. Therefore, I need to research more about colonization to be clear on this. Next class, our group plan
to brainstorm on what each person got and start to create the storyboard of our film.

We drafted our story board on a paper and the American Revolution is the first topic. Following by Martin
Luther and Niccolo Machiavelli.

Reflection: Since we had not so much time left, we cannot finish to draft the story board. Only around 50% is
done so we need to continue doing this and try to finish it on next class. I found some article about
Machiavellianism and Rationalism but I did not read through it yet so I put the link here first and I will come
back to read it later. Our plan for next class is finish the story board and research deeper into each topic.

Notes:
Niccolo Machiavelli (Full name: Niccol di Bernardo dei Machiavelli)
He has written many political books, both political and dramatic. Important literature of Machiavelli is: The
prince.
Human nature: He views human nature as a selfish creature seeking and trying to avoid various dangers. But
the pursuit of profit. Therefore, human life is struggling and always compete. Moreover, Maquiavale also
viewed that humans are foolish, letting their mind fall under the passions. Sometimes, humans agree to
surrender themselves to the protection of the stronger, unwittingly.
He proposed that the ruler or king would have the power from:
1. Derived from the peaceful family. Or get power through the blood.
2. Derived from the crowned or come from a change by force, then crowned themselves as a ruler.

The rulers property in his view:

1. Be frugal

2. Be decisive

3. Be cautious

4. Circumspect

5. Got the features of fox and lion together.

He supported the absolute monarchy. He said that it is the best way to rule.

The ruler must always remember that the country depends on the citizens. What people want is freedom
from being oppressed. Therefore, if you need the stability in your country, then you need the support from
your citizens not the higher class who oppress the citizens.

Reflection: The main topic that I covered for today is Niccolo Machiavelli. I research deeper about him and I
got a lot more information. I know more about his work and his thought about the ruler in his opinion.
Especially, the concept of ruling the country that he supported. Next class, I will move on to the next topic
which is colonization and try harder to finish my topics so I can send the information to my teammates. After
the information is ready, we will start to connect all the information and start to create the product as soon as
possible. For our story board, we have not finish it yet so we will finish it next class if we have enough time.

Notes:

The short definition of colonization is when the country who has power conquer or expand itself into the
surrounding countries.

The American colonists considered themselves citizens of the 'Mother Country'.

Reflection: Firstly, we finally finish the story board for our short film and we are going to use it as a guide line
for the final project. After I did the research for the topic colonization, I know more about its concept but I still
lack of information about this topic and I need so much more information. There is not so much information
about colonization on the internet and I do not understand the topic very well so I think I need to spend more
time on it and work together with my friends.

Goals: Put all the information together

Collect all the information from my teammates.

We put all the information into one document so it is easily to come and read again

Try to use the animaker(video maker) for our final product.

Reflection: Today, we put all the information that each of us was gathering and I think we still missed some
information. We plan to add the information that we missed while we are creating the video so we can really
know what we need to fulfill. The main plan for following days is to finish our film.

Goals: Start to create the product

Notes:

We use a video maker website(animaker) to make our short film.

We try to get used to this website and we hope that there will not be a problem with the program.

Transfer the information we got into the film in the easiest way to understand.

Reflection: We started to do the product already. We tried to follow the story board that we drafted before
but while we doing the film, we did not do exactly what we wrote in the story board and we changed a little bit
of it. We did not finish a lot for today so we need to work harder in the next class and plan more to finish it on
time.
