Appeal / Impact on This video is very unusual and abstract. I feel this attracts a certain, niche group of people who
audience: are interested in art and the video not only the song. As well as this audience I feel it will attract
an outside audience as well because it is something that hasnt been done before so is very
unique and it is also quite funny as its concept is so out there.

Intertextuality or cultural I dont think there are really any intertextual or cultural reference, as its so unusual it has all its
references? own ideas.

He finely does catch up to her in a field and she looks at him and then
walks away. This suggests a rejection. As it then goes to a medium shot
and you can see his sad facial expression.
The end shot is then the same as the beginning with a long shot of the
family portrait style position, apart from the fact that the dolphin is now
standing next to the main guy.

Musical style / lyrics: Repetitive lyrics. The music style is alternative and unusual. As its not often which you get someone
singing about unrequited love with a dolphin

Performance What is the performance style? How does narrative link to lyrics?
/ Narrative
This is a narrative video. This is because there The first most obvious link the lyrics have with the narrative is Forever Dolphin
is a clear story within the video that links with Love which is repeated in almost every verse. This shows the love you see the
the lyrics. As you know that its about a guy main character in the video feel for the dolphin at the end of the video. The
who falls for a dolphin woman. forever may also be shown at the end as the end shot is them standing
together in a family portrait or wedding picture-like way, suggesting that

though its presented in a comic and weird In the lyrics it changes throughout to different points of view. When it is his

This links to the lyrics as it is describing the dolphin person we are seeing. It
Also a convention is linking to the story the
also says in the same verse (in the same pov), Ill talk to her. This is what we
music is telling. This video does that as the

lyrics repeat forever dolphin love and that is
the story portrayed in the video. It then says in the lyrics and Duns life, hes turning heads, He talks to her. This
is directly linked as the character looks very unusual going through these
normal places, he would be making people turn heads, but it probably also
relates to the fact he is going after the dolphin. He also does get to her and
talks to her in the video.

It then goes to a bit which says She was to be my wife. This could link to the
bit at the end when they are together which could be what he imagined it
would have been like if she had not rejected him.

It ends with The backseat, never change. This most likely links with the fact
that in the video she did, supposedly, reject him. So it may be saying that he
is in the backseat, waiting, not first on her list for someone she wants to be
with.
Technical Camerawork:
Conventions
The camera work is slow and doesnt have any sudden or quick movement, which matched the music style. The most
noticeable camera movement at the beginning as it begins at a long shot showing all the strange characters placed to look
like a portrait. It then does a slow zoom into a close up of the main characters face. This is a really effective shot as it shows
who the focus of the video is on and is smooth and set up the strangeness that the video is.

It then does a POV from his perspective. This then introduces the dolphin and you realise that he is in love with her.

There is also various still, medium shots and close ups of the other characters. I really like these shots as a lot of effort was
probably put into their costumes and make up to make them look as interesting as they do, so I feel these shots show the art
that was put into the video. I also as it shows them individually and they are doing action and facial expressions because
there are close shots it shows each individual characters personality.

A shot which I also really like is when you see the main character on the train, he is shown from a low angle long shot. This is a
really effective shot as you can see the whole of him really showing off his costume. It also shows the environment hes in and
you can clearly see that he doesnt quite fit in with the environment around him. There is also a medium shot of him in the
same place.

There is also hand held movement when he is walking trying to get to the dolphin person. This is good as it adds more
movement and natural movement to the video which makes the watcher feel more connected to the video as its like you
can join with the movement of him walking.

You get a medium two person shot when he finally gets to the dolphin woman, this lets you see them together and you can
see their interaction with each other. When she walks away you see his POV showing that she is going away, then a medium
shot of him, showing his reaction, making it clear that she has rejected him because he looks sad.

Visual effects / Editing:

The editing is kept steady throughout, this represents the song as there arent really any build ups within the song. The shot are
kept long. The editing has also kept the sequence chronological, so there are no flashbacks or flash-forwards. The first scene
is repeated at the end, the only difference is the dolphin person standing next to him in the middle. This puts a clear
beginning, middle and end to the story.
Lighting and colour:
The lighting is kept reasonably bright throughout, natural lighting being the most used. At the beginning the lighting is used to
make the group of people stand out. I think this is done because as time has been spent on the costumes and they use
coloured paint, they wouldnt want to use a dark lighting and hide all of it.

The natural lighting used is effective as it adds more of an unusualness to the strangeness of the characters when they are
shown outside as it gives realness to the outside world.

Mise-en-Scene:
The most striking use of mise-en-scene in this music video is the use of costume. It is very abstract and is mostly white with
colours over the top. Make-up has also been done in the same style and also the hair, making them look like a painting
themselves. I think this shows the artists style and it shows that he is an arty person and is into funnier and less serious styles
and topics.

The setting goes from in a studio which is where the characters look more fitting as they are all together and it is a
background that goes with them. When it is a normal outside, real world setting on the other hand they look very unfitting
and like they shouldnt be there, and put emphasis on the wacky people.
