1. System Setting
Make system-related settings.
Start up Dr.ABE, and click System Setting.

Click the System tab.

Set System Setting and Parameter Processing as follows:

Import Unit: Metric Machine Parameter Server PC: Enter the name of the
server (AP100 standalone/server or PCL server) computer.
Display Unit: Metric
Material Parameter Server PC: Enter the name of the
Language: English server (AP100 standalone/server or PCL server) computer.
Database: SDD SDD Parameter Automatic Download: Select the SQL
version.
Simulation: Dr.ABE Blank
At the time of: Deselect all of these checkboxes.
Use Wizard for Sheet Size/Name:
Select this checkbox. Data Server PC (AP100/PCL): Enter the name of the
server (AP100 standalone/server or PCL server) computer.

Click the View tab.


Select the Expand All is Done after Automatic.
Click OK.

2. Material Settings
On Dr.ABE, use Sheet Code for identifying materials.
The following describes how to load material information from AP100/PCL (SDD).
Click Material Management.

There are two ways of loading material information from AP100 (SDD).
1. Select the Get Data from SDD or
MiniSDD icon.

2. When material codes (Parameter


Manager - Material Manager - Material
(Size) Information) are currently
registered to AP100, select Only
downloaded material code (Sheet
Code) of AP100.
See "Loading AP100 Material Codes from
AP100" on the following page.

3. When material codes are not registered to


AP100, the material type and thickness
can be acquired from the AP100 material
information, and the size can be defined to
automatically generate a material code.
In this case, select Download AP100
material type, then register ...
Registration Window..
For details, see the next item "Generating
Material Codes from AP100 Material
Information" described later.

* Check with the administrator for sizes to be


defined.
3x6, 4x8, 5x10, 1000x2000, etc.
Since material codes can be added at Material
Manager, define the basic sizes here.
Also, this must be accurately checked since some
customers define 3x6 materials as "1829914" or
"1830914".

Loading AP100 Material Codes from AP100


1. Click Only download material code
(Sheet Code) of AP100.

2. The Set Material Number window is


displayed. Set the number, and click OK.

The material code currently registered to
Parameter Manager - Material Manager -
Material (Size) Information on AP100 is
loaded as it is to Dr.ABE.

The material codes to load cannot be selected.


Delete any unwanted material codes after
loading.
All preset numbers are set as common.

Last of all, click X at the top right of the


window to close the window.

Generating Material Codes from AP100 Material Information


1. Select Download AP100 material type,
then register ... Registration Window..

2. A list of material type and thickness


acquired from the AP100 material
information is displayed.
(Each material type and thickness are
color-coded.)
Here, to define the material sizes to be
combined, click Sheet Size Definition.

3. The Sheet Size Define window opens.


Define how the sheet size, quantity, and
material code to register as material codes
are named.

Enter Size X and Size Y.


Enter Initial Qty. (To enter an infinite
number, enter "*".)
For Initial Sheet Code, set how the
material code is named.
Double-click the item from Sheet Code
Item to select the item, and insert the
operators hyphen "-", "X", etc. to make
an easy-to-view format.

Example:
Double-click Material Name from
Sheet Code Item to select it, manually
enter the size (4x8) to add the size,
and set as follows:
[MatName] 4X8
In this case, the material code will be
generated as "SECC1.2-4X8" if the
material name is "SECC1.2".

The material code of the row whose


On/Off checkbox is selected will be
created.

* An extra row is added by clicking the


bottommost row.

For Select Digital Number behind


Decimal Point, set the number of digits
behind the decimal point when
Thickness, Size X and Size Y are
selected at Sheet Code Item.

Last of all, click OK.

4. By the previous definition, the material


codes for Dr.ABE are generated here.
For material codes not needed here,
deselect the Generate checkbox.
Last of all, click OK.

One-point Advice:
You can also return to Material Management
without deselecting the checkboxes to delete
material codes.

5. This completes registration of material


codes.

Last of all, click X at the top right of the


window to close the window.

The following describes how to load material information from AP100/PCL (SDD).
Click Machine Setting.

Procedure for Loading Machine Information from AP100 (SDD)


1. Click Get Data.

2. The machine name currently registered to


the AP100 Machine Manager is displayed.
Select the checkbox of the machine to load,
and click the Download button.

3. This completes loading of the AP100


machine information.

Last of all, click X at the top right of the


window to close the window.

4. Preference Settings
The following describes how to set initial preferences, such as nesting preferences and tool
assignment preferences.
Click Nesting Preference.

The preference setup window opens.


Several machine folders are pre-registered to Tree View on the left of the screen.
* This setting is not required when this list contains the same folder name as the machine
name loaded from AP100 described previously. In this case, proceed to "5. Tool Inventory
Settings."
Here, create a folder for the machine name loaded from AP100/PCL (SDD).
Amongst the machine name folders already provided, select the folder for the same series of
machines, and click Edit - Copy, and click Edit - Paste from the menu to make a copy of the
machine name folder.
(The screen shots below show an example of copying FO3015.)

Select the copied folder, click Edit - Rename from the menu, and change the name to the same as
the machine name loaded from AP100/PCL (SDD).

* Repeat this procedure when there are multiple machines loaded from AP100/PCL (SDD).

Last of all, click File(F) - Close(C) to close the window.


This completes setting of the initial preferences.

5. Practicing How to Use Dr.ABE


The following describes the procedure to follow from loading parts through to performing nesting and
saving NC data so that you can understand how to operate Dr.ABE.

Step 1 Set up the server to load parts and save NC data.

Click Select Data.

Click Add Server.

The Add/Remove Server window opens. In this window, set the server information as follows,
and click Add, and click OK in that order.
Server Name: Enter the name of the server (AP100
standalone/server or PCL server) computer (e.g.
PCLSV01).
DataSource Information
User ID: Use as is. Do not change.
Password: Do not change.
Sql Version: Select the SQL version No.

File System Information


User ID: Enter the ID of the user logged into the server.
Password: Enter the password.

The server name is displayed on the left side of the window.


Double-click the server name to display a list of folders inside the server.

The server can now be accessed. Click Cancel to close the window.

This completes setting up of the server.

Step 2 Select the name of the target machine.

Step 3 Select parts at DataManager. (For this exercise, you may select several parts to
check the operation.)

Step 4 From the Application menu, click Dr.ABE_Blank.

The Add Parts from Data Management window opens. In this


window, click New.

Step 5 The Nesting Schedule window opens, and the parts are loaded to this window.
Click Make Sheet to execute.

Step 6 The Sheet Name Set window opens. In this window, select the Sheet Code checkbox
for the material to use, and click OK.

Step 7 Nesting is started, and the progress bar is displayed to indicate how far nesting has
progressed.

Note) The following errors may occur if the license is blocked for the USB security.

Causes of Error & Remedy


The license sometimes cannot be recognized when the security block is
being used by other software.
If this happens, contact your sales representative.
The license sometimes is not recognized when the USB connection is first
made.
If this happens, restart your PC.

After performing the above remedies, return to Step 3 and repeat the procedure.

Step 8 The nesting results are displayed as follows when execution of nesting is completed.

Step 9 Click the NC tab on the right side of the window. You can now check the NC data that
has been made.

Step 10 Save the NC data to SDD. Right-click, and select Save NC Data.

Step 11 The Avon Data Insertion Dialog window opens.


Change the name (program No.) so that existing data is not overwritten, and click Save.
When saving of NC data is completed, the screen returns to the previous window.

If saving of NC data fails at this stage, contact your sales representative.


(A probable cause of this is the settings made on the server.)

Step 12 Make sure that the NC data has been saved in DataManager.

This completes checking of Dr.ABE operations.

The following describes how to back up various settings, machine and material parameters, and other
information.
Backed up data is saved to a single compressed (.zip) file.
Before you back up data, prepare a folder (e.g. "D:Dr.ABE Buckup") to save the backup file to.

Click System Setting.

Click the System tab, and click Backup & Restore.

Click Browse.

At Look in, select the directory containing the folder that you initially prepared for saving the backup
file.
At File name, enter any name for saving the backup file.
Last of all, click Open.

Click Backup. The backup is executed.

When the backup is completed, click Close.

The backed up items are displayed on the right side of the window. Click X to close the window.

Click OK.

This completes the backup.

* Settings can be backed up and restored in each of the windows for


machine settings, material settings, preferences, tool inventory, and other
information.

The following describes how to directly load DXF and DWG data. Refer to this description as
required.
* DXF and DWG data covers unfolded patterns.
The definition of DXF and DWG data does not include 3-view drawings and dirty data.

There are two ways of loading DXF and DWG data.


1. How to select DXF and DWG data in
Windows Explorer

Open the folder containing the DXF/DWG


data, and directly drag-and-drop the
DXF/DWG data onto the nesting schedule
button.
This loads the data.
For details, see "How to select DXF and
DWG data in Windows Explorer" on the next
page.

2. How to switch System Setting

Click System Setting, and set Database on


the System tab to File.
For details, see "How to switch System
Setting" described later.

Thickness and Unit also can be set.
In this state, select the data to load, and
click the Open button. The data is loaded.

5. In the Nesting Schedule window, click and

Thickness from the list boxes, and enter
Part Quantity.
This enables execution of nesting.

8-1. Automatic Processing (Individual Parts)
Parts loaded to nesting schedules are automatically assigned one part at a time. After they
have been assigned, check and modify the assignment results as required.
You can also apply modified assignment data to the nesting schedule, and perform nesting.
Load parts to the nesting schedule, and select Make Part.

Assignment results are displayed for each individual part.

Check the assignment results of each part, and modify parts with unassigned sections or
parts whose joint positions are to be changed in the manual edit mode.

This part does not have a joint.

Add a joint from Laser Edit.

After you have finished editing, create the NC data again.

The modified assignment results are

To use the assignment information in only the current nesting schedule without saving the
assignment information, right click on a No., and select Save Sy5 to Nesting Plan.

information.
Saved data can be loaded to nesting schedules.

Set the program No. and save it to SDD.

Load saved data from SDD to the nesting schedule. Only sheet
information is displayed when the Only SY4 checkbox is selected
in the Avon Data Selection dialog box.
