The study area is located in the district of Chilete, province of Contumaz, in the

region of Cajamarca, covering an area of approximately 0.5Km2. The geological

framework is dominated by lithological units of the Carhuaz and Farrat
formations, defining in the field a stratigraphy with dips in favor of the main road.
The study carried out in the slopes that are between the progressives of Km 95
+ 000 to 97 + 000 present in a constant way problems of sliding of blocks of rock
reason why the study was focused in realizing initially a map in line of detail ,
making direct field tests with the Schmidt hammer, to measure the resistance to
simple compression and at the same time taken roughness data and data like
DIP and DIPDIR of the discontinuities.

The Barton Bandis criterion was used to calculate the internal friction angle of the
rock, and after that the safety factor (FS) was calculated.

Once the parameters mentioned above were obtained, the data were entered into
specialized software (Rocscience) to obtain the value of the Safety Factor for
each studied geomechanical station and thus to know if the area under study is
stable or unstable. Finally defining zones with great instability due to the safety
factors obtained.
