Batman TPB Complete Chronology

Hey guys so there are a lot of people that come on here that want to know which
graphic novels to read. So what I did was compile a list of all graphic novels that
I will continuously update that have bruce wayne in it. That also includes cameos.
I still need to update it, because I believe I might accidentally have put in some
story arcs. If I did please let me know. And there will be a key to them. I would
also appreciate help with your opinions on good reads or must reads for people that
don't have the time to read this entire list, because lets face it, it's long, and
it can only get longer. And if I am missing any please let me know!

The Key:

Italisized means that it has not been compiled as a trade paperback yet

Bold means this is an important or really good read

Underlined means Bruce does not appear in it but it still effects his mythos. (I
might need help with the is it dick or bruce for some of the 2009/2010 issues).

So here it is:

Thanks! I can't wait till I start adding the DCnU stuff, still don't know how the
chronology of it will work but it's gonna be a working process.

Why isn't Killing Joke underlined? That was a pretty important book. Also, DC needs
to make a Batman: Year 3 TPB. I guess I can just pick up Parts 2-4 at cover price
at my local comic shop, and get 1 on Ebay.

Wow, this is an incredible list! Did you compile it yourself? It's really helpful,
thanks a lot!

Also, just some suggestions. I'd bold Batman: Hush and Batman: R.I.P. Also, you
could add the Batman Beyond comics to the end of the list which would pretty much
be the end of the chronology. Just suggestions, you don't have to go with them.

@Zomboid: No thats a totally awesome suggestion. As far as Batman RIP, is it too

confusing for someone to just read that alone or should someone read something else
before hand? And ya I made that entire list myself, I have an updated one that I
will post with even more trades (and the upcoming new 52 trades as well)

Edit: Just updated it!

@batshrine: It might be a little confusing, but not that bad. Also, I didn't see
Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum on the list, which is a pretty important one, or
Arkham Asylum: Madness (which would be underlined).

So you are gonna be shocked, I have never read either of those, but I'll do my
research on it to figure out where it goes exactly.

Arkham Asylum: Madness is nothing special, but Morrison's AA is definitely worth
reading for any Batman fan. You should totally get on that lol

Ya I know right, I'm a crazy Batfan that has managed to compile a list of DC's
trades where Batman has appeared in, yet I still haven't read Arkham Asylum. Is
that even possible?

lol anyways, right now I am trying to figure out where to place luthor, joker, and
batman/lobo. if you guys have any suggestions feel free to let me know. its a big
list so I don't expect you guys to go through it in full detail, but if you can
kind of place what major event it is near feel free to let me know. (fyi I am
pretty positive they aren't canon tales, but they can still be placed in a this
sort of works kind of way)

Well to find all the graphic novels was an on going process that I started about a
year ago, then I just took about a weeks worth of work to organize it
chronologically.

Speaking of which, does anyone have any recommendations on where to put the Luthor,
and Joker graphic novels

I am pretty sure they are Elseworlds, even if it is not written on the cover (but
again, it is not on the cover of the All Star comics and Miller's TDKR/DK2). Batman
never gave Kryptonite to Luthor so he could kill Superman; Joker was never a cured
but depressed hooligan way too much in Clockwork Orange ultra-violence.

That is Azzarello for you, he does not give a damn about continuity and as a
result, it is just his vision of the DCU but it never was meant to be canon.

Pretty great list. :) Just two edits I would make - You forgot to put in Catwoman:
Year One and I would put The Man Who Laughs before Prey.

Great list and job thumps up.

Some few changes.

20. Haunted Knight takes places afther 28 The long halloween Two Face is mention in
Haunted Knight and he wasn't there before TLH, so that is a good lead.

Also the Catwoman: when in Rom is missing on the list. it takes place at the same
time as haunted Knight. The Catwoman is missing in the Haunted Knight and dosen't
appear again before Dark Victory.

My suggestetion TLH, Hanuted Knight, When in Rom, Dark Victory.

There is more leads thanthe one I have mentio, and can be read at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Haunted_Knight

@tupiaz: I'll be honest I have never read When in Rome. Did Batman (or Bruce Wayne)
appear in it?

Not directly no. It however deals with Catwomans thoughts and feelings for Batman,
so in that way it fits into the mythos of the Batman. The Riddler also appears in
the story. It is not essential (or good for that mater, been a few years since I
read it so the story is a bit rusty). .

That is an impressive list but it can be kind of consuming. I'd suggest Batman: The
Cult as one to read/one to highlight in bold. If not for a brilliant story
involving Deacon Blackfire, at least for this pic: -

A suggestion what about putting Dark Knight returns an Dark knight strikes again in
before Batman beyond and Batman 100 after Batman beyond. Also Batman Chronicles and
Batamn n the forties, cities, sixties and teh seventies is no there. They seems to
be a part of <bruce life after Morrison's run. Dennis Oneil's TPB is not there.

@tupiaz: I actually really like that suggestion with DKR. Batman Chronicles (From
the 90's) was never collected, but if you are talking about Golden Age and Silver
Age Batman. They aren't cannon, and although I am a huge Batman fan, I find the
stories to be too silly and shallow for me to enjoy (and the art isn't good enough
to circumnavigate it). Plus I wouldn't know where to put them. Though I am
considering putting Denis O'Neil since he did revamp Batman and essentially start
creating our conception of Modern Batman. I'll look into what was collected by him

JLA/avengers is canon, since the cosmic egg appeared in JLA: Syndicate rules and in

generally they are, but this is an exception since at the end of jla/avengers
crossover krona was trapped in a cosmic egg (a marvel artifact) and then this egg
appeared in the canon JLA: syndicate rules story arc and then it was the main
storyline of the 52 issue trinity comic book

So with Marvel vs DC, there is nothing in that story that is contradicted in canon.
So in all actuality it is very possible that it did happen. So I actually do count
it as canon, unless you see something that happens in it that canon does
contradict?

But I am also putting in trades that aren't quite canon if they can roughly fit
somewhere. For example Azzarelloverse (Joker, Luthor, and Noel) aren't canon but
they can fit somewhere. Same with Cacophony (James gordon was commissioner before
he was commissioner in canon) and Wydening Gyre (Cacophony's sequel).

yes it does contradict it since marvel vs dc has a completely different cosmology

from both dc and marvel.

no this isn't true, practically every crossover is non canon, jla/avengers is the
only one i can think of that is canon

@batshrine: i actually did give you when i said the word cosmology which means the
origins of the marvel and dc universes, according to marvel vs dc, amalgam brothers
were the creators of both marvel and dc, while canon states otherwise.

also there is a possible another canon crossover for batman, which involves him
going against spawn, if you read it he left a batarang in spawn's face thus scaring
his face, this scar was later seen in many further issues of spawn but then got
retconned.

official story.

I know the Batman/Daredevil crossover by Chichester is for instance an Elseworld

series but pretty normal/mainstream. It is not my fault that canon has become
synonym with continuity. I will continue to use canon the correct way hopefully
other will do the same some learn that the two words dose not mean the same thing.
