All about months/years:

A solar calendar is a calendar whose dates indicate the position of Earth on its revolution around
the Sun or, equivalently, the apparent position of the sun moving on the celestial sphere.
Christians and other nations follow SOLAR Calender which consists of 12 months (January,
feb...so on) based on SOLAR cycle of 364 days/year (365 leap year).

Similar to Solar, the other commonly used system is a lunar calendar which dates the months
based on cycles of the lunar phases. Hindu, Muslims and many other nations follow the Lunar
calender consisting of 12 months based on Lunar cycle of 354 days/year (355 leap year)

First month of the year for Muslims (as decided by Quran/hadith) is Ramazan. Following are the
names/number of days per month.

Ramazan 30

Shawaal 29

Zil-qadah 30

zil-hijjah 29

Muharram 30

Safar 29

Rabi ul Awal 30

Rabi us sani 29

Jamadi-ul-awal 30

jamadi-us-sani 29

Rajab 30

Shaban 29 (30 if leap year)

Similar to other communities, Muslim preists wanted to keep control of their community hence
keeping them in complete dark about the following facts from Quran al-kareem.

10:5

He it is who hath made the sun a glow and the moon a light, and hath determined mansions for
her that ye may know the number of the years and the reckoning Allah hath not created all this
except with a purpose; He detaileth these signs unto those who know!

21:33

And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an
orbit.

55:5

The SUN and MOON are made PUNCHTUAL!

As we know the orbits don't change on yearly basis, the number of days/month in a year stays
the same every year. There has been enough guidance from Prophet Muhammad(Saww) and his
family about how to observe the moon and its size to determine which date of month it is hence
there's no need to fight over moonsighting every year. May Allah(Awj) guide Muslim preists to
educate the nation instead of putting them in the same situation every year for the past 1400
years!
