Marianne Evans Mount became president of

Catholic Distance University in 2008.

As an innovative leader in the field of education, Marianne

has received numerous awards and served as a presenter
for a variety of organizations. She received the DETC
Distinguished Service Award in 2005, the Loudoun County
Woman of the Year for Education Award in 2007, Mount
St. Marys Universitys Bicentennial Medal for pioneering
work in Catholic distance education in 2007, and the
Outstanding Graduate Research Award at the 27th Annual
Research to Practice Conference in 2008.

Concentrations
Students will complete 12 credits from one of the following concentrations.
Sacred Scripture
Concentration
More than a mere book, the Bible is a virtual
library of texts dating from the earliest recorded
history to the century following Christs death.
Students in this concentration will study the
sacred texts and their relationship to other
disciplines such as archeology, history, theology,
and hermeneutics. This program emphasizes
both an accurate reading of texts based on the
best scholarship and the Bibles position as a
living document in the Catholic tradition.
Ecclesial Service
Concentration
This concentration is designed for people who
currently work for or intend to work for the
Catholic Church in a professional or volunteer
capacity. Deacons, catechetical leaders, Catholic
school principals and teachers, music and liturgy
directors, pastoral associates, and those involved
in social outreach programs will find this a
rich and beneficial program in both theoretical
and practical terms. Students who choose this
concentration will work closely with a faculty
advisor to make sure their studies correspond to
their personal and professional goals.

Concentration
The Catholic Church possesses a highly
sophisticated and elaborate tradition of reflection
on the relationship between faith and reason. In
this concentration, students will be able to look
deeply into the great figures in that tradition,
from St. Paul to modern philosophers and
theologians, with an eye towards both a more
profound theoretical understanding as well as
the application of theological and philosophical
truths to some of the urgent ethical and social
questions of the modern world.
Catholic Culture
Concentration
In music, sculpture and painting, literature,
and architecture, the Catholic tradition has
produced some of the worlds greatest works of
art. Students in this concentration will not only
become more familiar with the great tradition,
they will come to understand how the products
of the religious imagination are connected with
the great truths of the Faith over the various
historical periods in which the Church has added
to this proud heritage.

Dr. Peter Brown
Academic Dean
Dr. Brown received a BA from Yale University in
Mathematics, though the Holy Spirit moved him
to a love of the Bible. Later he received an MA in
Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville
and then a doctorate in Biblical Studies from the
Catholic University of America, specializing in
Biblical languages and New Testament exegesis. Dr.
Brown has published book reviews and numerous
articles and has delivered many lectures on Sacred
Scripture and Theology both at the popular and
scholarly level in both English and Spanish. Dr.
Brown also maintains a teaching load.

Dr. Matthew Bunson
Faculty Chair and Church History Scholar
Dr. Bunson received a Doctor of Ministry degree
from the Graduate Theological Foundation, holds a
Bachelors degree in History, and holds two Masters
degrees in Theology with specializations in Pastoral
Theology and Church History. He is currently
pursuing doctoral studies for a Ph.D. in Church
History.
He is a senior fellow of the St. Paul Center for Biblical
Theology, and is the author or co-author of 50 books
including The Encyclopedia of Catholic History.
Dr. Bunson has served as a consultant to USA Today
and appears as a frequent guest on many television
stations and radio programs, including MSNBC, Fox
News, CNN, Catholic Answers, Al Kresta, the Son
Rise Morning Show, and Relevant Radio.

Dr. Marcellino DAmbrosio
Dr. Marcellino DAmbrosio, also know as Dr.
Italy, holds an MA and PhD in Historical Theology
from The Catholic University of America and is
know for delivering profound Catholic truths in
understandable and relevant terms. In addition to
teaching for CDU, Dr. DAmbrosio is a professor at
the International Catholic University.
Dr. DAmbrosio is the director of Crossroads
Initiative and has served as a commentator on
Fox News Geraldo Rivera At Large and The
OReilly Factor. His writing has been published
by Our Sunday Visitor and Catholic News Services
syndicated column Faith Alive. Dr. DAmbrosio
is a New York Times best-selling author for his Guide
to the Passion: 100 Questions about the Passion of the
Christ.

Fr. Bevil Bramwell, OMI
Father Bevil Bramwell received his UEd and BSc
from the University of Natal in South Africa; an
STB from the Gregorian University in Rome; an STL
from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology; and his
PhD from Boston College. Father can speak in and/
or read several languages, including French, Italian,
Latin, Greek and Afrikaans. His publications include
an undergraduate textbook on the theology of the
sacraments, book reviews, and numerous articles
for technical spiritual journals. Fr. Bramwell has
published Laity: Beautiful, Good and True: Hans Urs von
Balthasars Theology of the Laity as well as The World of
the Sacraments.
