Under the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faizan

Courses Offered
The progress of the institution has been shaped by
an insistence on holistic 'justice' education which
exposes students to the different facets of legal systems
and how they interact with public policy, social
institutions and markets. In other words, the university's
activities try to emphasize interdisciplinary linkages that
enable its faculty members, students and researchers to
both understand and critique the rationale behind
legislation, executive acts and judicial decisions while
also developing the ability to propose constructive
solutions for socio-economic problems. This is informed
by a strong belief in the normative potential of the law.

Five Year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Programme
Among the full-time taught programmes, the 5-year
integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) programme has swiftly
acquired an enviable reputation, especially since
admissions to the same are conducted through the
highly competitive Common Law Admission Test
(CLAT). Every year, the institution welcomes a group of
very bright students who have to navigate a challenging
yet engaging curriculum that helps them to acquire
knowledge while also honing their research, writing and
public speaking skills. The undergraduate students are
required to accumulate credits by pursuing the
mandatory courses prescribed by the Bar Council of
India (BCI) during the first three years and thereafter
optional courses devised by the University. Beginning in
2012, the curriculum has undergone considerable
change and gives students a lot of flexibility in choosing
subjects. This allows them to deepen their learning in
certain areas while also benefitting from the ongoing
research activities of faculty members. The

Economics, Sociology and English offered during the
first two years will encourage students in the direction of
inter-disciplinary elective and seminar courses offered
during the fourth and fifth year.

research skills of a high order. Students are required to
undertake different kinds of assignments, such as
preparing research papers, film reviews, generating a
survey of literature, book reviews, legislative analysis,
case-comments and position papers among others.

Note: The papers under each specialization will be made
available in accordance with the exigencies of semester
schedules and subject to the university rules on the
minimum number of enrolments required for a paper.
Students who opt for subjects cutting across these
clusters can also acquire a general LL.M. degree. While
the LL.M. programme is primarily meant to prepare
students for careers in teaching and research, NALSAR
recognizes that it can serve as the fulcrum for advanced
learning in a variety of professional settings. LL.M.
students are also given opportunities to work as
Teaching Assistants for the mandatory subjects taught to
the undergraduate students. In recent years, quite a few
LL.M. graduates have also been absorbed in the faculty.
M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes
There is a strong emphasis on research
programmes, with postgraduate students having the
option to move on to the One Year M. Phil. programme
and eventually the PhD. programme. In the long-run, the
quality of a University is gauged by the range and depth
of the scholarship produced by its faculty members and
research scholars. Hence, efforts are being made to
improve the standards of legal scholarship in India
through these research programmes. The application

Two Year full-time M.B.A. Programme
In a pioneering move among the autonomous law
universities, NALSAR started a two-year M.B.A.
(Master's in Business Administration) programme in
2013 with the aim of integrating higher education in laws
and management studies with specializations in Court

Human Resource Management and Business
Regulations.
Innovative Programmes for Professionals
To broaden the areas of learning at the University,
initiatives have been taken such as the launch of a 2-year
Masters' degree in Aviation Law and Air Transport
Management and a 2-year Master's Degree in Space
and Telecommunication Laws. These are in the nature of
executive programmes which are targeted at working
professionals from the respective sectors. So far, they
have elicited a very favorable response from experts in
these fields. Faculty members from NALSAR are also
involved in delivering a 2-year Master's Degree in
Taxation and Business Laws for probationers of the
Indian Revenue Service (IRS) at the National Academy
of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur. To reach out to a
larger section of the public, the University also offers
Post-Graduate Diplomas in several areas that have
practical relevance, namely Patent Laws, Media Laws,
Cyber Laws, International Humanitarian Law, Aviation
Law and Air Transport Management (PGDALATM) and
GIS & Remote Sensing Laws. These diplomas are
transacted through periodic contact classes with
examinations held at the end of the academic year. They
are open to graduates from disciplines other than law as
well. In addition, Post-Graduate Diplomas in Alternative
Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Family Dispute
Resolution (FDR) are offered as part-time courses in
collaboration with the International Centre for Alternative
Dispute Resolution (ICADR) unit in Hyderabad.
Collaborations with Foreign Universities
In recognition of the increasing importance of
comparative and international dimensions of higher
education, the University has signed Memorandums of
Understanding (MoUs) with as many as 30 reputed
foreign Universities from United States of America,
Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland,
Australia, Israel, The Netherlands and Singapore for
purposes such as exchange of faculty members,
students and collaborative research projects. These

partnerships enable faculty and students at NALSAR to
develop a rich understanding of legal cultures from other
parts of the world and consequently enhance the quality
of discussions and scholarship in the institution.
Research Centres
To create support structures for advanced learning
and creative scholarship, NALSAR has set up dedicated
research centres whose activities are co-ordinated by
senior faculty members. These include the Centre for
Disability Studies, M.K. Nambyar SAARC LAW Centre,
Centre for Air and Space Law, Centre for Environmental
Laws, Centre for Tribal and Land Rights, Centre for
Corporate Laws and Governance, Centre for Legal
Philosophy and Justice Education, Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) Centre and the Centre for Family Laws. The
broad mandate of these centres is to produce scholarly
publications, policy recommendations and newsletters
connected to these areas apart from organizing guest
lectures and discussions to build awareness about
them. There are several ongoing research projects that
are anchored by faculty members. For instance, in 2013,
NALSAR was chosen by the Ford Foundation to conduct
a three-year study for 'Knowledge based interventions to
strengthen the realization of Socio-Economic Rights'.
The University is also part of the Global Internet
Governance and Advocacy (GIGA) project under the
aegis of the Department of Information Technology,
Government of India. In addition, NALSAR has been
assigned the task of managing and operating the Legal
Information Institute (LII) of India (since March 2011)
which is among the largest open access portals for
disseminating legal information in India.
Legal Aid and Outreach programmes
As part of its social outreach programmes, NALSAR
frequently provides specialized training to para-legals,
government officials and resource-persons from Non-
Government Organisations (NGOs). The Legal Aid
Centre organizes legal literacy programmes at different
locations and facilitates access to legal advice and
representation for the poor in collaboration with the
State Legal Services Authority and the State Human
Rights Commission.

Publications
NALSAR currently publishes as many as eleven
scholarly journals on an annual basis. The NALSAR Law
Review is edited and managed by a committee of faculty
members. There are several student-edited journals
which have attracted high-quality submissions.
Faculty
NALSAR has a team of highly dedicated and
competent faculty members, comprising of a good mix of
experienced scholars and young talent. The faculty has
been drawn from prestigious national and international
universities. Every year, University brings in
International Scholars-in-Residence. Additionally,
NALSAR also has an open door policy for its alumni to
supplement the teaching efforts of its faculty. In addition
to teaching, faculty members are engaged in various
research projects on cutting edge issues of law and

Student Life at NALSAR
The NALSAR student community is vibrant,
comprising of students from varied regions, religions,
states and nationalities. This is evidenced by the range
of student-organised extra-curricular and cultural
activities at the University. The students annually
organize the NALSAR Inter-Varsity Debating
Championship, an event that draws student
participation from different countries and universities
(not limited to law schools). Additionally, there are a
number of intra-college activities, such as Carpe Diem
(the annual intra-college cultural event where students
showcase their creative and sporting talents). Regional
food and cultural festivals such as Awadh-Magadh,
Punjabi Fest, Telugu Fest and the South Indian Fest are
regular features of the residential life on campus.
Students are provided with double occupancy
rooms in the Halls of Residence with a common Dining
Hall facility. Some single rooms, subject to availability,
may be allotted to senior students. The Halls of
Residence have common room facilities including a
functional Gym, Indoor Games (such as carom and
pool), badminton courts in the Halls of Residence and
Television. The Halls of Residence have internet-
connectivity through LAN, entire NALSAR campus
including hostels are Wi-Fi enabled. The Library has a
rich collection of books, journals (printed and
electronic) and e-databases. NALSAR also has a
state-of-art Moot Court Hall, video conferencing
facilities, a football stadium, two tennis courts, and
separate basketball and volleyball courts for boys and
girls. All buildings, including the Halls of Residence,
are powered with diesel generators for twenty-four
hour power back-up. The University has a Health
Centre with Medical Officer, Gynecologist and
Resident Nurse. In addition, the University has a
Counselling Centre.

Statute-V provides that Resident Student of
Telangana means:
i) a student who or any one of his parents has
resided in the State of Telangana for a period of at
least four years; or
ii) a student who has studied in any one of the
educational institutions in the State of Telangana
for a period of not less than four years leading to
the qualifying examination.
To be eligible for admission under the Resident
of Student of Telangana category seats, a
candidate in addition to fulfilling any one of the above
condition of Resident Student of Telangana, should
have also passed the qualifying examination from any
educational institution in Telangana and should have
secured appropriate rank in order of merit in the
Common Law Admission Test-2016.
