Architecture as Material Practice

Stephan Jung | School of Architecture and Society, Politecnico di Milano

A story of spaces, landscapes, architects and their buildings is dedicated to the art of doing, to a culture that emphasizes making as its primary
mode of discourse. Here architecture is understood as a practice where the key is to: watch, observe, see, imagine, invent and create. In doing so,
a consciousness is slowly emerging where the immediacy of the interior is revealed as the fundamental condition of the discipline of architecture.

Urban Interiors: Widening Disciplinary Viewpoints

Elena Montanari | School of Architecture and Society, Politecnico di Milano
By exploring the continuity of the experience of space throughout the sequences of indoor and outdoor environments which constitute the city, the
presentation aims at highlighting the distinctive features of urban interiors, the specific elements which connote, shape and equip them, and the
trends that characterize the recent urban interior design proposals.

A Cultural History of the Meaning of Home * the lecture will be held in Aula De Donato
Irene Cieraad | Department of Architecture, TU Delft
There is a history of the personal meaning of home, and a history of the cultural meaning of home. The latter is moulded by the 19th century history
of industrialization and urbanization in which home and work evolved into distinct economic domains with very different value systems, languages of
design and codes of behaviour. Home became the main site of consumption and works the main site of production. Although the personal meaning
of home still thrives on its opposite, there is at present a strong tendency in the interior design of the work place to blur the contrast and give office
