1. Critique title

The title of the study is brief and informative however, the title make a clear the

population of interest wich is author an the major variables : eksploration os south

australian emergency nurses knowladge and Perception of their roles in disaster

responses. If the topic is too broad it may be hard to find information that is focused and

relevant; if the topic is too narrow it may be hard to find any information at all

2. Critique background of the researcher

The expert area of the researcher is emergency nursing, so therefore the research topic is

apropriate and related to the backgrond of the researcher.

3. Critique research abstract

Actually the reseacher in this study didn mention the abstrack but the autor make a

summary consist of the problem, design methode, instrument, but not complete. Such us

how many sample, didnt mention the purpose and resulth . therefor the summary not

clear and does not connect with the content. Is better if the reseacher make a more

complete and clear. But not to broad.

4. Critique research problem, questions and hypothesis.

According to the researcher natural disasters make a many impact in australian , but just

a litlte is understood about what skill or experience they need in order to respon disaster

even.
 The problem statement was very lengthy and needed to be reread several times to

understand the point of the study. The problem did, however, agree with the title and had

an educational significance

And the researcher want to know the knowladge and perception of the nurse. But is

better if the reseacher add wich factor that explores rom the nurses. Such us : factors of

the knowladge and what perceptions. However the research problem is good because in

this study the researcher make clear the paradigm such us a man, person , nursing

environment. The researcher didn mention hyphotesis but we would like to know from

the purpose of the study.

Comments - The authors objectives were attainable. They included enough information

to accomplish the purpose and will help solve the problem. The author also included a

list of hypotheses which were constructed to achieve the objectives of the study

5. Critique literature review

This study provide the literature that relavant to this stady are about the disaster

knowladge, previous disaster respone=se experience and training, previous disaster

experience . other than that there are the conection between the presents study and the

previous research ant theory refer to cinsididine J, preparedness and perceptions of

emergency nurses in disaster (2009) The study aim was to explore emergency nurses'

perceptions of CBR incidents and factors that may influence their capacity to respond.

And taylor RM, australian nurses caring for victims of bali bombing disaster. So this is

conciding with the present study.

However, In this research theres GAP of the literature are there are only a small amount

of studies that directly related to emergency nurses and disaster. There is no current

research that explores emergency nurses and perceptions of their roles in disaster

responses
 And the researcher make a paraphrase from the other sources because many assumtion

that he make. However there is some of the paragraf from the original sources. But over

all the review provide a brief conclusion of the study

The researcher didn mention conceptual framework. Actualy in mix methode research the

researcher sholud make a conceptual framework . according to Teddlie and Tashakkori

7. Critique research designs

In this study the researcher use mix methode design: qualitative and quantitative.

Quantitive data has provide tatistic evidance to suport the findings, while the qualitative

data has allowed fo a richer understanding of nurses perception. So the methode design is

apropriate.

Based on the types of design mix metode this journal is type sequental exploratory

design. The author used quantitative data to provided statistic to support the findings, and

quaitative data for richer understanding of nurses perception. From the resulth in table I
 the author used qualitative to know the knowledge test on disaster. And in the figure I

and figure 2 the author used quantitative to know the frequency.

8. Critique sampling design

There were 4432 critical care/ emergency nurses in 2007. But at the time the study was

conducted there were 558 registered nurses(RN) . this number include nurses who were

on leave at the time the survay was circulated. My assumtion the researcher use random

sampling technique.

9. Critique data collection Procedures

In this research the researcher use a questionaire was choses as the data collection tool.

But did not identify an existing survay tool. The period of four weeks to complete the

quetionaire. the questionaire include of demographic, knowladge, awarness, previous

disaster respon experience and roles of nurses.

The data collected it was entered by microsof exel database.

10. Critique data analysis

In this study, the data was analyzed using sum, percentage, frequency distribution and

measures of central tendency. And qualitative to know the nurses perception, And

thematic analysis was also used for the analysis of all open ended and short answer

questions.

So the data analysis in this study is appropriate.

11. Critique etichal aspects

In this study there is research etics but the researcher didn mention what is the etics

aspect. Just explain the the proposed research was initially sought from individual

departement head , clinical service and nurses manager.

In this study over all is good for interpretive data , not to broad and narrow. Make easy to

understanding.

The reseacher explain the table is clear he used table and graph or chart.

In presentation the resulth is good, the researcher uses a table for qualitative data and

diagram for quantitative . And very complete. Not to large and his explaination very

clear.

For my area of study it was particylarly useful to used this journal to my reseach
