OBJECTIVES

Bahasa Inggris I is designed to help students to improve their English skills so they are prepared to
understand and reproduce basic sentences. Students are expected develop their reading
comprehension skill as well. This means that students need to boost their vocabulary, refine their
grammar, fix their pronunciation, and understand the basics of language usage. As it is a course for
Sastra Daerah students, special emphasis will be given to English used in discourses related to West
Sumatera and Minangkabau arts and culture.

Group Project: Presentation of an Article Regarding a Topic Related to West Sumatera and Minangkabau
Culture. (4 Students)

Final Exam 50%


In-Class Test that that measures your sentence construction and reading skills. It includes a) Word
Usage, b) Phrase Usage, and c) Reading Comprehension

Assignments Tickets & Booster


Keep an English Journal and learn one new word every week. Each word must be accompanied by notes
and at least five example sentences. The notes and sentences must be taken from good dictionaries
(Recommended Dictionary: http://www.ldoceonline.com/). You can only enter the class with a new
entry in your journal. If you dont collect enough words and sentences, you cannot follow the midterm
exam.
