Program Description For Gifted Classroom If Applicable

(For example: Units or topics of study including essential understandings and guiding questions when applicable.)

J. will have the opportunity to utilize higher order thinking, levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation by
engaging in small group activities, creative thinking activities, and concept based learning. Concept based
curriculum focuses on the study of topics by organizing multiple concepts into big ideas. Concepts are
timeless, universal, abstract, and broad. This curriculum is multi-disciplinary and skills-embedded. It goes
beyond the facts to provide the depth and breadth. Unit activities will require J to learn and practice the skills
and methodologies of topic related disciplines. Each concept-based unit concludes with a culminating
performance task designed to help J demonstrate essential understandings and big ideas.

As a twice exceptional student, J will benefit from the use of technology to increase motivation and help access
curriculum. The gifted teacher will also provide support to help J choose and complete personal research
projects. J will also be allowed to choose and design tasks according to aptitudes and interests.

J has high ability in math and the opportunity for compacting will be available to him.
