This Instruction covers the supply conditions of pattern equipment and coloring &

marking system on the wooden patterns & core boxes

1. The material for pattern making will be as mentioned in Technology Drawing.


Depending on the size, shape, number of castings to be made, the pattern can be
manufactured from any of the following items or its combination thereof as specified on
Technology Drawing.
(a) Seasoned Deodar wood, (b) Seasoned teak wood (c) Seasoned seasam/chid wood
(d) Spruce wood (e) MDF Board (f) Ply sheet (g) Thermocole (h) Araldite (I) Epoxy
resin (j) Kal

Prior approval of Technology is required in case there is any deviation/concession


desired by Pattern manufacturer other than that mentioned in Technology Drawing.
The moisture content in seasoned wood should be 10-12%.

2. Permissible dimensional deviations applicable to manufacture of Pattern equipment


shall be as per detail given in Table unless otherwise mentioned on Technology
Drawing.

3. Risers, pads, sleeve centering bosses are to be supplied as mentioned in Technology


Drawing. Risers are not required for cylindrical Kalminex sleeves upto 600 mm.

4. The pattern, core box, riser should be equipped with strong lifting and conveying
arrangements. Projected wooden batten - fixed in combination with the structure can
also be used in case of small (below 1000 mm dimesion) core boxes. In all other cases
MS strips are to be embedded in pattern/core box/riser surface fixed with CSK head
wood screws, if position of strip comes on working surface of mould/core. For large size
patterns, coach screws/nut botls are also to be used for fixing of lifting/stripping
arrangement.
For small patterns and risers the MS strips can be 3-5 mm thick. For medium and large
patterns, thickness of MS strips should be 10 mm or more. These strips should get
hold and bend on the main structure of the patterns fixed with screws and nut bolts.
