CAUTION: ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING IN A
SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO
MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING,
COMPONENTS AND THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
- PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC. AS NECESSARY ON WIRING AND
COMPONENTS.
- REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND OTHER CONTAMINATION. THESE
PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION AND DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL
WIRING INSTALLATION IF THERE IS CONTAMINATION, REFER TO ESPM 20-55-00.
NOTE: The access and close-up instructions, not comprising return to service tests, in this Service Bulletin do not
constitute or affect the technical intent of the Service Bulletin. Operators can therefore, as deemed necessary, omit or add
access and/or close-up steps to add flexibility to their maintenance operations as long as the technical intent of the Service
Bulletin is met within the set parameters.
NOTE: Configuration effectivity:
+ CONF 001 is valid for aircraft VN-A198, VN-A555, VNA556, VN-A557, VN-A558, VN-A559, VN-A560, VN-A561,
VN-A562, VN-A563 on which THSA is fitted without ELSD.
+ CONF 002 is valid for aircraft VN-A564, VN-A565 on which THSA is fitted with ELSD.
A. PREPARATION XXX XXX XXX
1. Subtask 271164-941-008-001 - Job Set-up XXX XXX XXX
1.1 The items given in this note shall be considered as the basic Aircraft
configuration before you start a maintenance task:
- Aircraft on the ground resting on landing gear (the ground safety
locks and the wheel chocks are in position on the landing gear)
- Engine shut down, thrust reversers closed and locked
- Aircraft in clean configuration
- Parking brake applied
- Aircraft electrical network de-energized
- Hydraulic systems depressurized
- Access to the cockpit and cabin is available
- All circuit breakers are in closed position
- All controls in NORM, AUTO or OFF position.
1.2 Make sure that the aircraft is electrically grounded, refer to AMM Task
12-34-24-869-002.

1.3 Put an access platform in position at zone 310.


1.4 Do the preparation procedure as specified in the Detailed Inspection of
THSA Upper Attachments for Secondary Load Path Loading, refer to
AMM Task 27-44-51-220-004.

B. PROCEDURE REQUIREMENT XXX XXX XXX
NOTE: Do not clean the inspection areas before the inspection has
been accomplished.
1. **CONF 001 XXX XXX XXX
Subtask 271164-832-209-002 - Visually inspect the upper THSA
attachment for correct installation, cracks, damage and metallic
particles

1.1 Do a General Visual Inspection for correct installation, cracks and


damages:
-the upper gimbal, refer to Fig. A-FBBAA Sheet 04, Detail E
-the no back housing yokes structure, refer to Fig. A-FBBAA Sheet 05,
Detail F,
Refer to: Fig. A-FFBAA
1.2 1. Inspect the front and aft no back housing yoke to the gimbal
attachment to detect a possible previous incorrect installation.
a) Check the bolt and washer are present.
b) Check the correct retention of the bolt with the key washer

Findings:
1.3 2. If cracks or damages are found :
a) Replace the THSA before next flight, refer to TASK 271164-833-850
001
b) Do the inspection again as per SUBTASK 271164-832-209 002
Visually inspect the upper THSA attachment for correct installation,
cracks, damage and metallic particles.
1.4 3. If no cracks or damages are found: Visually inspect for metallic
particles :
- the spherical bearing, refer to Fig. A-FBBAA Sheet 02, Details C.
- the base of the tie rod sphere, refer to Fig. A-FBBAA Sheet 03,Detail D
and Section B_B,

Findings:
<1> If no metallic particles are found: Do the inspection of the upper
attachment parts, refer to SUBTASK 271164-832-210-002 Visually
inspect the upper attachment for correct installation of attachment parts.
<2> If metallic particles are found: Contact the AIRBUS customer support
for more instructions.
NOTE: If you find circular marks on the base of the tie rod sphere refer to
GOODRICH ACTUATION SYSTEMS Service Bulletin No. 47145-27-10
for acceptable marks.
WARNING: UNTIL ANSWER IS RECEIVED FROM PRODUCT
SUPPORT, NO FLIGHT IS PERMITTED.

REQUIREMENT
2.1 Visually inspect that the bearing, the bush, the locking washer, the
retainer nut, the washers and (if applicable) the shim(s) and the
attaching bolts are installed as shown on Fig. A-FBDAA, Sheet Fig. A-
FBDAA Sheet 01, Details B, C, and Fig. A-FBDAA Sheet 02, Section
A-A.
2.2 Make sure that the bolts, the nuts and the cotter pins are installed as
shown on Figure Fig. A-FBDAA, Sheet Fig. A-FBDAA Sheet 03,
Detail D.
2.3 Measure the depth of the sliding bush as shown on Fig. A-FBDAA,
Sheet Fig. A-FBDAA Sheet 04, Detail E, the measured value must be
between 6.0 - 7.5 mm (0.236 to 0.295 in.).
Measured depth:
2.4 Make sure that the attaching bolts are secured to each other with lock
wire as shown on Fig. A-FBDAA, Sheet Fig. A-FBDAA Sheet 04,
Detail E.
NOTE: Make sure that the washers and (if applicable) the shim(s) fill
the space between the flange of the bolt and the retainer nut.

Findings:
- If deviations are found :
a) Contact AIRBUS product support for further instructions.
WARNING: UNTIL ANSWER IS RECEIVED FROM PRODUCT
SUPPORT, NO FLIGHT IS PERMITTED.
b) Product Support must be notified to give the correction instructions.
2.5 Clean the components and area that follow, with
Non Aqueous Cleaner-General 08BAA9 As required
and
Textile-Lint Free Cotton 14SBA1 As required
- The upper gimble,
- The no back housing yokes,
- The spherical bearing,
- The base of the tie rod sphere.

2.6 Let the components and area dry.


2.7 Write the results on the Inspection Reporting Sheet and in case of
findings send it to AIRBUS, refer to: Fig. A-FRBAA.
3. **CONF 002
Subtask 271164-832-209-002 - Visually inspect the upper THSA
attachment for correct installation, cracks, damage and metallic XXX XXX XXX
particles
3.1 Do a General Visual Inspection for correct installation, cracks and
damages:
- the upper gimbal, refer to Fig. A-FBBAB Sheet 04, Detail E
- the no back housing yokes structure, refer to Fig. A-FBBAB Sheet 05,
Detail F.

3.2 1 Inspect the front and aft noREQUIREMENT

3.4 3 If no cracks or damages are found : Visually inspect for metallic
particles :
- the spherical bearing, refer to Fig. A-FBBAB Sheet 02, Details C,
- the base of the tie rod sphere, refer to Fig. A-FBBAB Sheet 03,
Detail D and Section B_B,
Findings:
<1> If no metallic particles are found : Do the inspection of the upper
attachment parts, refer to SUBTASK 271164-832-210 002 Visually
inspect the upper attachment for correct installation of attachment parts .
<2> If metallic particles are found : Contact the AIRBUS customer
support for more instructions.
NOTE: If you find circular marks on the base of the tie rod sphere refer to

4. Subtask 271164-832-210-002 - Visually inspect the upper attachment
for correct installation of attachment parts XXX XXX XXX
4.1 Visually inspect that the bearing, the bush, the locking washer, the retainer
nut, the washers and (if applicable) the shim(s) and the attaching bolts are
installed as shown on Figure Fig. A-FBDAB, Sheet Fig. A-FBDAB Sheet
01, Details B, C, and Fig. A-FBDAB Sheet 02, Section A-A.
4.2 Make sure that the nuts, the locking washers and the springboxes are
installed as shown on Figure Fig. A-FBDAB, Sheet Fig. A-FBDAB Sheet
03, Detail E.
4.3 Measure the depth of the sliding bush as shown on Figure Fig. A-FBDAB,
Sheet Fig. A-FBDAB Sheet 04, Detail F, the measured value must be
between 6.0 - 7.5 mm (0.236 to 0.295 in.).

4.5 Clean the components and areaREQUIREMENT

- The base of the tie rod sphere.
4.6 Let the components and area dry.
4.7 Write the results on the Inspection Reporting Sheet and in case of findings
send it to AIRBUS, refer to Fig. A-FRBAA.
C. CLOSE-UP XXX XXX XXX
1. 1. Subtask 271164-942-213-001 - Close-up XXX XXX XXX
1.1 Make sure that the work areas are clean and clear of tools and other
items of equipment.
1.2 Do the close-up procedure as specified in the Detailed Inspection of
THSA Upper Attachments for Secondary Load Path Loading, refer to
AMM Task 27-44-51-220-004.
1.3 Remove the access platform(s).
1.4 Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
CRS: Certifies that the work specified except as otherwise specified was carried out in accordance with current regulations
and in respect to that work the aircraft/aircraft component is considered ready for return to service.
