PIPE DUCT SYSTEM

Glossary of terms

What is meant by "pressing water"?

Explanation of some typical expressions:

Doyma-Grip
"Doyma Grip" is a highly non-slip and non-ageing elastomer compound specially developed for Doyma. It prevents friction-
reducing substances, e.g. mineral oils used as softeners, from compromising the slip-resistance of the gasket insert.
DPS
DPS "Double Profile System" refers to the two-sided, internal asymmetrical profiling of the steel rings developed by Doyma for their
gasket inserts.
Pressing water
"Pressing water is that which creates hydrostatic pressure on the gasket insert.
Gas-tight
"Gas-tight" means tight against all gases that do not attack the material (e.g. air, nitrogen, inert gases, etc.)
Electro-galvanized, yellow passivated and sealant coated (standard)
Whilst the chromating process provides almost double the corrosion protection compared to a surface that has only been galvani-
zed, the sealant doubles again the corrosion protection a four-fold improvement over simple electro galvanized steel.
Drinking water approval (KTW)
Health evaluation of plastics and other non-metallic materials in the context of the food and consumer article law for the drinking
water regulations.
Wet rooms
Wet rooms are those in which process or cleaning water or other liquids are used.
Nominal bore
Nominal bore (NB) is the nominal inside diameter; it is also the actual inside diameter of Doyma sleeves.
Non-pressing water
"Non-pressing water" puts no or temporarily only little hydrostatic pressure on the gasket insert, e.g. rain, leakage or water for
domestic or industrial use.
Black tank
"Black tank" refers to an outside wall with tanking membranes or bituminous thick-coating which seals the whole area against
water or other liquids.
Special fibre cement pipe sleeve (SFZ)
Special fibre cement pipe sleeves are made of cement reinforced with synthetic fibres. Special characteristics: virtually the same
coefficient of expansion as concrete results in perfect bonding.
White tank
"White tank" refers to a wall constructed using waterproof concrete.
Civil protection regulations
Include shock testing of technical installations, equipment and installation components.
Shock safety must be proven by appropriate test results. Operational reliability of the installation components may not be
impaired.
Subject to technical alteration without notice

Packings
According to German regulations, tanking membranes must be sandwiched between steel fixed and loose flanges protected
by durable, pliant packings. The packings must be made from the same material as the membrane or from pliant elastomers.
Packings are not included with the standard gasket insert. Accessory order no. 1775

Aquagard concrete sealant Accessories

Sealant for core bores

Concrete needs protection!

Without protection concrete will permit moisture penetration to
some depth before it becomes an absolute barrier that is how
moisture circumvents the gasket.

The product
Aquagard comprises a colourless base primer and a concrete-
grey special paint top coat having a coverage of 3.5 4 m per
litre; both products can be brush or roller applied. The primer
requires about 1 hour ventilation time at room temperature and
the top coat will be touch dry within two hours at room tempera-
ture and fully cured within five to six hours.

Aquagard base/primer (Curaflex 1710/1711)

Base primer for Aquagard special paint

The primer penetrates deep into the concrete,
sealing capillaries and tiny air pockets to create
lasting water tightness. In this way moisture
circumvention of the gasket is prevented.

Curaflex 1710 1.0 litre covers 4.0 m

Curaflex 1711 1/3 litre covers 1.5 m

Aquagard special paint (Curaflex 1715/1716)

PIPE DUCT SYSTEM

Packings Accessories

Packings for pipe sleeves with fixed and loose flange systems (Curaflex 1775)
According to German regulations, tanking membranes must be sandwiched between durable, pliant packings.
The packings must be made from the same material as the membrane or from pliant elastomers.

In the case of fixed and loose flange systems, a perfect seal is only guaranteed when the thickness and
elasticity of the bituminous tanking membrane is great enough to ensure that it is uniformly clamped
between the flanges. In the case of tanking membranes made from very thin and/or very hard materials, com-
pression by the flanges alone is often inadequate. From our experience, we recommend the use of
elastomer packings in conjunction with tanking membranes made from ECB, PIB, PVC-P, EPDM, EVA as
well as PE mod., PE-HD and PVC.

Doyma elastomer packings are made from EPDM or CR (Chloroprene = Neoprene). They are supplied ready
for installation with pre-punched holes which align with the tapped bosses in the fixed flange.
One packing is installed by placing it on the fixed flange, then the tanking membrane is trimmed to
suit and the second packing is then laid in place over the membrane and, finally, the loose flange is installed
and tightened.
Elastomer packings are available as an extra accessory. If required, please order Curaflex 1775.

Accessories for thick bituminous compound membranes (Curaflex 1776)

According to DIN 18 195, installation of thick bituminous compound membranes in conjunction
with fixed and loose flange systems should be accompanied by a fabric inlay in the membrane in
the area around the penetration. This is necessary to ensure a lasting seal, especially against
pressing water. The accessories for the correct preparation of the penetration comprise a
fibreglass matrix, spacer washers, rubber O-rings and course surface finish to the fixed and
loose flanges to maximise the grip of the flanges on the membrane.
Order ref No 1776/5 for non-pressing water alternatively No 1776/6 for pressing water.
Please also remember to order Curaflex 1776 and Curaflex 1777 or 1778.

PIPE DUCT SYSTEM

Curaflex pipe sleeves Technical information

Application areas
Practical experience on site has shown that only by installing Doyma sealing systems, consisting of pipe sleeves and gasket inserts,
secure and lasting watertight penetrations for pipes and cables through walls, ceilings and floors are guaranteed. Curaflex sleeves,
whether manufactured from special fibre cement or from steel, and Curaflex gasket inserts form a reliable sealing system of high-
est quality for all pipe and cable service ducts leading from outside into a building.

Materials
The sleeves are manufactured, in accordance with the numerous constructional requirements, from special fibrous cement and/or
steel for the commonly encountered conditions of pressing and non-pressing water and ground moisture.

Curaflex special fibre cement pipe sleeve

Manufactured from special high-grade, asbestos-free fibre cement.
The coefficient of expansion of the material corresponds to that of concrete.
Principal installation area of the sleeves: in structural walls, floors and ceilings.
The material absorbs moisture from the surrounding structure, the formation of shrinkage cracks is eliminated.
Series Curaflex 3000 has a grooved outer surface in order to become absolutely homogenous with the structure, providing a
durable, watertight bond with the concrete.
The inside face of the sleeve provides an optimum contact surface for the elastomer of the gasket insert when installed in the
sleeve
No corrosion is possible.

Please note: If Curaflex special fibre cement sleeves will be in constant contact with pressing water, a preventive coating with
Aquagard primer and special paint is recommended.

Curaflex steel sleeves

Steel sleeves are equally reliable and durably resistant construction components for use with Curaflex gasket inserts.

Steel grades (materials) and surface treatment

Materials
Mild steel S235JRG2 (1.0038)
Stainless steel grade 304 ( 1.4301 = V2A)
Stainless steel grade 316 ( 1.4571 = V4A)

Surface treatment
Electro-galvanized mild steel (DIN 50961), yellow passivated and sealant coated.
Passivating approximately doubles the corrosion resistance of electro-galvanized steel;

PIPE DUCT SYSTEM

Curaflex gasket inserts Technical information

Doyma develops and produces gasket inserts for sealing service ducts through walls, ceilings and floors for the
widest variety of demands.
The Curaflex gasket inserts fulfil the following construction engineering requirements:
sealing against pressing and non-pressing water
for installation in pipe sleeves or core bores
with fixed and loose flange according to DIN 18195 T9
split versions for retrofit installations
angular deviation of service duct up to 8 accepted
fire protection: With intumescent systems from Doyma, tested and approved to DIN 4102 of the Building
regulations, fire compartments can be penetrated with confidence
explosion protection
gas-tight to seal against all gases that do not attack the material (e.g. air, nitrogen, inert gases, etc.)

The spectrum of applications for gasket inserts encompasses structural and civil engineering, especially water
lines, heating and district heating. Other applications include, for example, service ducts in swimming pools,
tank installations, gas pipes and shelters.
Further uses occur in manholes, sewage works and in constructions with or without tanking membranes and
thick-coating renders.

Function principles
The assembly comprises rubber gaskets between profiled steel rings, which fit over
the service pipe/cable inside the sleeve or core bore. Tightening the nuts compres-
ses the gaskets between the steel rings and thereby securely closes off the annular
void between the building service and the sleeve or core bore.

Doyma DPS
The profiling of the steel rings (DPS* = Double Profile System) features a more intel-
ligent method of pressure distribution: gently in the direction of the service, strongly
in the direction of the sleeve/core bore.
*) DPS up to NB 350 mm

Materials used
The standard gasket insert comprises minimum 6 mm thick, asymmetrically profiled
steel rings. The steel rings are electro-galvanized, yellow passivated and sealant
coated as standard (ggv).
To these are added according to the sealing requirement for pressing or non-
pressing water one or two 27 mm thick elastomeric rings which, as standard, are
made of fatigue-proof special EPDM compound "Doyma-Grip". Gasket inserts with
two elastomeric rings have an additional 3 mm thick orange-coloured EPDM centre
DPS = Double Profile System
ring. This centre ring causes homogenous and uniform distribution of the compres-
sion pressure on the service pipe or cable and sleeve/core bore.

Doyma DL LINK CHAINS

Doyma DL link chains Technical information

Overview
Link chains have established themselves as a low cost system to seal pipes and cables, which are
taken into buildings. The advantage of this sealing system is its modular design: The assembly of
several sealing modules produces the chain which is then ready for installation.

This modular system, comprising just 16 sizes of sealing module, enables pipes and cables from
21 mm to 1220 mm dia. to be successfully sealed.

The choice of the sealing module required for the seal depends on the pipe diameter and is cal-
culated using the formula overleaf or by computer progamme. This software can be downloaded
from the internet (www.doyma.de).

The benefits
Doyma DL sealing modules have specific advantages which make this sealing system secure.
- Expansion-free Y-connection technology
The unique geometry of the rubber sealing elements ensures their sealing efficiency no leak path is possible.
- Continuous AquaStop safety groove
The continuous AquaStop safety groove effects a more efficient compression of the sealing elements and
therefore provides a greater sealing performance.
- Distortion-resistant pressure elements
The inside perimeter profile of the pressure elements ensures they bed positively into the body of the rubber
elements during tightening; this ensures they maintain their designed, relative position during installation.

Models
Doyma supply sealing modules for different hydrostatic loading cases. There is a broad version DL Sealing
module B for high loads and a slim version DL Sealing module S for low loads.
The components of the DL sealing modules can be supplied in various materials, depending on the performance
requirements:
- Screws: galvanized or stainless steel
- Elastomer: EPDM, EPDM-KTW, NBR

Doyma DL sealing box

In order to accommodate market requirements, Doyma also supplies the complete DL link chain pre-
assembled: the DL sealing box. It contains a chain ready for installation according to customers
requirements for standard pipe diameters.

Please note:
- Doyma DL link chains are suitable for sealing in the ground. If used for heavy loads in high rise
buildings, e.g. in tanks or similar containers, movement of the DL link chain, which might be
caused by excessive maximum pressure, has to be prevented.

- Doyma DL link chains are not fixed points and are not designed for load bearing. If settlement of
pipelines is expected, centering rings or spacers should be fitted in the sleeve or core bore during

installation.

Doyma DL LINK CHAINS

Doyma DL link chains

How to find the right chain
1. Which sealing module?
The appropriate Doyma DL link chain for an application is deter-
mined by the annular space between the diameter of the sleeve or
core bore and the ducted service. The optimum link chain is smaller
than the annular space in its relaxed (untensioned) state but larger D-d
Annular space
Ringraumdicke s=
when tensioned. The annular space is calculated as follows: 2
D-d 500 - 406 Service pipe
Annular space s= Example: =47
2 2
The product of the calculation is used to select the appropriate
sealing module (see table below); it will have a relaxed module
clearance uM less than the product and a tensioned module clea-
Core bore/
rance gM greater than the product. Just enter the calculated value pipe sleeve
according to sealing module B or S into the column annular space
s and you will get the corresponding sealing module.
Example for sealing module B s = 47 mm = sealing module 475 B

2. How many modules? Bow length BL

The required number of sealing modules must now be calculated
after determining the sealing module version. For this, the bow
length BL for the selected sealing module may be derived from the
table below.
The number of modules is calculated using the following formula.
The result is the number of modules rounded up or down.

D+d
No. of sealing modules n = x 1.57
BL
Example:
Bow length value BL of sealing module 475 B = 68,0
500 + 406
x 1.57 = 20.91 n = 20.91 21 units of sealing module DL 475 B
68.0

If the number after the decimal point is smaller than 0.5, it will be
rounded down, otherwise round up to the next full number of links.

Curaline
CABLE DUCT SYSTEM

Curaline Cable Duct System Technical information

Application areas
Curaline BKD- and KD-Systems
Curaline cable duct systems comprise sleeves with flanges and various system caps. These sleeves and caps form a sys-
tem which is designed for quick and easy installation and which is tight against gas and pressing water. All cable types and
sizes can be readily and flexibly sealed. All edges are rounded to protect cable insulation and avoid damage as the cable
is pulled through. Perfect sealing on cables and spigots even against pressing water is achieved by heat shrink sleeves.

Sleeves
With a flange on one or both ends, sleeves are set flush in the shuttering and cast in either individually or as a multiple
battery. The innovative combination of expanding seal system and sleeve construction ensures a perfect bonding to the
concrete.
Curaline BKD- and KD-systems are delivered to site in the length to suit wall thickness.

System caps
System caps offer a multiplicity of possibilities for sealing cables and cable ducts. Curaline BKD system caps have a
bayonet action lock to allow quick and easy installation. Curaline KD system caps with screw thread offer the same opti-
mum possibilities and solutions. System caps accept cables with different diameters to be ducted and sealed. Heat shrink
sleeves are delivered as standard with the system. Cold shrink sleeves are available as an option.

Curaline KSS duct system

Curaline KSS offers a wide range of application possibilities, e.g. gas- and watertight connection between two buildings.
The system consists of a flexible, mechanically strong, load-bearing spiral duct, which is connected to the sleeve flange
