The Problems with Gender Inequality

When a woman was in college and a professor attempted to rape her classmate, they

reported it to their homeroom teacher. Her response to the report, Forget about it, these things

happen in womens colleges. This womans story is an example of the gender discrimination in

our world. All people should be safe while getting their education, for knowledge is essential.

Men and women should have equal rights because everyone should have an educational

opportunity, the ability to get a decent job to support themselves, and the feeling of safety in

their community and work space.

Everyone should have an educational opportunity. In todays society, the higher

education you have, the higher paying job you could have. Since this is the case, what would

happen to people that couldnt receive an educational degree? A quality education grants us the

ability to fight the war on ignorance and poverty (Rangel). Without a good paying job, the

person and maybe their family, they cant support themselves. In addition to needing an

education, you also need a decent job.

Every single person should have the ability to get a decent job. The job you have affects

many things in your life including the way you live and your emotions. All happiness depends

on courage and work (Balzac). If you arent able to get a job that makes you enough money to

live, it makes it harder to be happy. Only being able to get by stresses the person, and affects

their mood and mental health directly. Furthermore, your mood can be affected by the condition

of your workspace.

All people should have the feeling of safety in their community and work space. A

national poll found that 25% of women have experienced workplace sexual harassment, as have

one in ten men (Scott). If people are being sexually harassed at work, they are less likely to do

well and complete the job they are assigned. They might even quit if the harassment continues to

happen. Sexual harassment shouldnt happen, because it will most likely affect the work done

and the quality of it.

Even though were in the twenty-first century, people opposing gender equality think that

men and women cant be equal, because both genders are gifted with different skills. Certain

jobs require different skills, and according to my opposers, a woman cant do a job that require a

skill that many men are just born with. This means that certain jobs are only meant for one

gender. For example, a stereotypical job only for women is cooking, but Gordon Ramsay has

proved that wrong. These people are wrong simply because jobs are meant for everyone.

In conclusion, men and women should have equal rights because everyone should be able

to get an education, the ability to get a job that supports their lifestyle, and the feeling of being in

control of what happens in your community and workplace. Everyone should be able to get an

education, because knowledge is important. Every person should be able to get a job that

supports them, because you need money to survive. All people should have control of what

happens to them, because here in the United States of America, freedom is our foundation. If

over 62 million girls worldwide cant get an education, it will be hard for them to survive.
