JOB DESCRIPTION: DATA WAREHOUSE ARCHITECT

EnviroSpeak Media Inc, a developer of web-based tools for environmental change, has an excellent
permanent opportunity for a Data Warehouse Architect in Victoria BC. This person will act as the primary
resource for developing a data warehouse comprised of product catalogs, and environmental product ratings,
sourced from multiple vendors in CSV, XML and API format. Examples of vendors include (Ex, Amazon.com,
GoodGuide.com, Commission Junction and LinkShare.com)

This is a technical leadership role involved in the architecture, design and development of enterprise-level
data warehouses, and associated operational data stores, data marts and APIs. Role includes implementing
and enforcing data quality management practices, providing technical guidance to other resources, managing
projects, and have experienced in a variety of software development practices. Provides subject matter
expertise to other technology team members. May assign incoming tasks or projects to other team members
in order to balance individual workloads, as well as providing advice, training, guidance and quality review.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Leads the design, integration and maintenance of complex databases. Develops enterprise-level
strategy for data warehouses, and associated operational data stores, data marts and web
service APIs.
 Implements efficient databases, including specifying physical characteristics, designing efficient
partitioning and indexes and mapping database objects to physical storage devices.
 Develop a web service API for external web applications.
 Aggregation and normalization of product catalogs and metadata (environmental product
ratings)
 Creates and maintains documentation related to the company data warehouse, web services
program and operational business systems.
 Ensures data standards are reused and enforced across all data-driven initiatives.
 Evaluates, recommends, and implements new tools and methodologies.
 Defines and implements business and technical metadata management techniques.
 Develops logical and physical data models.
 Designs, creates, implements and monitors ETL processes to Data warehouse.
 Provides direct to Business Intelligent strategies and tools.
 Performs other job-related tasks and projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or BS in information systems, and 4-5 years Database
Administration experience, including 2 years in a lead developer role.
 Must be an expert in MySQL and PHP, as well as having a working knowledge REST and SOAP
API protocols, data quality management best practices, and experience using commercially
available tools.

 Knowledge of master data management implementation practices and applicability to support

business intelligence initiatives.
 Solid understanding of data governance practices. Experience with full lifecycle development
projects.
 Familiarity with emerging technologies, and software development best practices, particularly
related to enterprise data management. Experience with Business Intelligent Tools like
Business Objects
 Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong influencing/negotiation
skills.

NICE TO HAVE:
 JAVA development skills – mid level to advanced core Java (back-end or middle-tier
development)
 Experience with PHP frameworks (Zend, CakePHP, etc)
 General understanding of ecommerce and online conversion tracking technologies.
 Willingness to discuss/explain database architecture, system infrastructure, and integration
solutions with third party technical partners and business teams.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
This position is being offered with support from NRC / IRAP Canada. As such the following conditions are
non-negotiable requirements by IRAP.

 Candidate must be a post-secondary graduate.

 Candidate must be 30 years of age or younger.
 Candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted
refugee status in Canada (no work permits or student visas).
 Candidate must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and
regulations.
 Candidate must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits at the time of
employment.

SALARY RANGE:

$45,000-$60,000 / year depending on experience.
