1. INTRODUCTION:

IIS L&T Consortium has been awarded Design and Construction of Special Bridges across
Narmada River as CT P-15B Package, located in JNPT to Vadodara Section of Phase 2 of the
Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

The main scope of Package CTP-15B is Design and Construction of Special Steel Bridge across
Narmada River involving Bridge Structure, Approaches (of 200m Length from Abutments on Both
Sides) in formation in Embankments with 01 No. RUB, Guide Bunds and protection works. The
Length of the Proposed Narmada Steel Bridge is 1.4 Km. It is located in JNPT-Vadodara Section
of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor under Phase-2, including a box type RUB, which is a part of
Bridge Approach on North Side of Alignment (Bharuch Side).

2. SCOPE:

This Method statement details the main particularities of the Raw Material Storage for Structural
Span we intend to use for the construction of Special Bridge.

This method statement covers detail storage details in terms of raw material storage, includes

bridges and locomotives turn - tables ,fabrication specification (IRS:B1-2001).

All Raw materials shall be marked/stencilling/tag with proper heat no /cast no and designation of
steel as detailed in the mill test certificate for proper correlation and traceability.
Once material received to fabrication shop shall be carefully unloaded and examined for defects.
Stack the material carefully on the level bed/wooden packing out of contact with water and ground
moisture.
Each thickness/sections/grades shall stacked separately with proper identification and easy
traceability.
Stacked material shall be available for inspection by the engineer. And verified with proper mill test
certificate.
All raw material shall stacked with proper colour code for easy identification.
Colour code shall be separate for inspected and rejected material. And both shall be stacked
separately.
Damaged material during transit or while unloading shall be stacked separately and damaged
material shall be indicated with different colour code.
Rolled steel shall be carefully unloaded and stacked separately.
All the cast no / heat no shall be recorded along with no of plates in register soon as the plates
received to work shop
Member Weather assembled prior to dispatch or not so assembled, shall bear an erection mark,
which will help to identify the member and its position in respect of the whole structure to facilitate
at site.
These erection marks shall be suitably incorporated in the shop detail and erection drawings.
Each member shall be maintained with proper camber marking to check final truss camber

4.2 Weld consumables:

Electrodes shall be conforms to IRS specification M-28.

The filler wire and flux combination for fully automatic submerged arc welding shall be conforms to
IRS specification M-39.
All consumables shall be with proper test certificate correlated with batch no and date of
manufacture.
All consumable shall be stored and handled with care and in accordance with manufacture
recommendations (IS: 9595).
Electrodes, filler wires and rods and fluxes that show signs of damage (cracked or flaked coating
on covered electrodes, rusty electrode wires and wires with damaged copper coatings) shall not
be used.

Electrodes shall be stored in their original packets in a dry and well ventilated, preferably under
heated conditions.
Electrodes stored area where relative humidity (RH) shall be less than external conditions
(preferred RH shall be approximately less than 50 percent).
The ideal storage temperate is about 10-15C above the ambient temperature. Where special
protection during storage or immediately prior to use is recommended by manufactures of
electrodes, they shall be treated in accordance with IS: 13851.
Wire electrodes shall be suitably packed to guard against damage, including that during
transportation.
Wire electrodes shall be kept in its original bundle in a dry store room.
Flux shall be packed and stored in a moisture resistance container in a dry store room.
Damaged electrodes, wires and flux shall be stored and stacked separately.

4.3 Paints:

All the paints shall be stored strictly in accordance with manufacture requirements laid down by the
paint manufactures.
The storage area shall be well ventilated and protected from sparks ,flame, direct exposure to
sunlight or excessive heat, preferably located in an isolated room or in separate building.
All paint containers shall be clearly labelled to show paint identification .date of manufacture, batch
number.
The container shall be opened only at the time of use, paints which have liveried, gelled during
storage, and shall not be used.
Paints for which the shelf life specified by the supplier has expired shall not be used with inspection
and approval by the engineer.

5. MARKING FOR IDENTIFICATION:

All Members and Sections Shall be appropriately marked with paint or grooved with their
identification numbers as detailed in the shop drawings.
Each fabricated member Weather assembled prior to dispatch or not so assembled, shall bear an
erection mark, which will help to identify the member and its position in respect of the whole
structure to facilitate at site.
These erection marks shall be suitably incorporated in the shop detail and erection drawings.
Each member shall be maintained with proper camber marking to check final truss camber

6. DESPATCH:

Prior to dispatch all members shall be completed all coats of shop painting
Before dispatch all the members shall be inspected clearly in dimensional, weld visual, erection
and camber marks.
Each member shall be clearly stencilled on it with good paint the address of delivery.
Gross weight and Net weight description of contents and such marks must be shown against each
item in the invoice.

7. TRANSPORTATION OF FABRICATED ELEMENTS:

Transportation through Road Ways using Trucks/Trailer:

All the trucks or trailer are to be loaded to as near their appropriate capacity as is consistence with
safe transport.
While loading the material in truck or trailer, care should be taken that heavier material is loaded
first and lighter material is kept.
While handling the any girder or girder component it shall be ensured no damage to material takes
place in the form of dent/cut mark etc. wooden blocks, rubber pads shall be used to avoid direct
contact between materials to handled and handled equipment.

Stacking of Fabricated Elements at Site.

The fabricated elements shall be stacked on the designated stacking platform provided in the
stacking yard.
Three tier stacking of elements shall be done with intermediate separator of rubber packings
to avoid any contact between the metal surfaces.
The elements shall be handled using gantry during loading / unloading from the trailer.
The elements shall be stacked in a conditioned manner to avoid any damages due to climate
changes.
Fabricated members shall be stacked in sequence as provided erection marks to easy marks.
Stacking area shall be floods free to protect the member by corrosion and distortion.
All fabricated member in stacking area shall be kept on proper wooden sleeper
All Erection and camber marks shall be covered with proper protection.

8. SAFETY HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT:

Hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control measures for each and every activities
and sub-activities involved in the Storage of raw material shall be identified and necessary
operation control measures shall be initiated prior commencement of fabrication work
