The Choice.

School is one of the most difficult moments that every person have to deal, because it is a period of

psychological and physics changing. In adolescence we have many doubts and we have to take a lot of

important decisions. As a consequence, if we take bad decisions, these affect our adult life. One of the

most important decisions of school period regards the use of drugs. It may not seem like a big decision,

because we think that if we do it one time is no big deal.

Marijuana is the first illicit drug that the youth try in school, its called the bridge drug, because it

leads you to try hard drugs like cocaine or heroin. Psychological problems and dysfunctional families

cause young people to search for an exit. Consequently they try drugs because it makes them forget the

bad memories of home, like bad relationships between parents or if one of the parents is missing. Also,

another reason is intrapersonal problems like low self-esteem. Along with psychological problems,

these produce peer pressure.

Social or peer pressure is a big reason for trying drugs the first time. In school we begin to go to

parties, know new people, and make a lot of friends. The usage of illicit substances in the parties is

common nowadays, the main reason is the bad example the young are exposed in television, some kind

of music, and famous people. As a result some try drugs to look popular and to be accepted in the

group. Education make an important role in these kinds of behaviors.

 More importantly, lack of education is the first reason of the drug consumption in school. The

education that the parents give to their kids is the best protection against drugs, because if we educate

the young since early age about the risk of drug consumption, its less possible to make a wrong

decision about these problem, because they are able to think with their own arguments. These kind of

education have to be supported in the school with special programs.

Drug consumption is a big problem that may affect everyone, nobody is save from this risk.

Governments need to make campaigns against drugs in school, its not enough to make new laws or

special police departments to fight the drugs. The war on drug is a problems that have affected the

whole world, not only big cities. But the best defense for our children it is the education we give them.
