We are looking for a PhD candidate with background in Material Engineering to engage in a
project "Tribology of wheel rail contact and rail failures" starting in February 2018.
The potential PhD student will focus on materials characterisation of rail failures and identify
the causes for rail life improvement. He/She will analyse real life failures of rails, identify
causes of failures and correlate with FEM stress analysis.
The successful applicant is expected to hold at least the first honour (or equivalent) degree in
engineering or science. For overseas applicant, an IELTS score of 6.5 is required. Experience
in materials characterisation using SEM/TEM and Finite element method/Matlab experience
is desirable.
