Sample question:

Immunisation is just as important for teenagers, older people, people with chronic
conditions, pregnant women and other high-risk groups as it is for children. Discuss.

Introduction / Background / History (~150 200 words):

What is immunization? How do vaccines work?
Where is the focus in terms of immunizations in Australia? children? All age groups? A
brief insight into the topic of this article.

Different perspectives (~600-700 words):

1st paragraph
Organisations/Groups/Governmental initiatives trying to promote immunisation for all age
groups. [Provide reasons given by these groups] Why are they promoting immunisation
for all age groups what kind of repercussions are there if there are high numbers of
adults not immunised / complications for pregnant women. What kind of scientific evidence
is there to prove these claims?

2nd paragraph
Organisations/Groups/Governmental initiatives only focusing (or highly focusing) on
vaccinating children; legislatives that focus on imposing penalties on parents not
vaccinating their children
[Provide reasons given by these groups] Why is there a focus on immunizing children?
Why is the government imposing welfare benefit restrictions to get parents to immunize
their children? Why not impose similar restrictions on adult immunisations? Is there any
scientific evidence to support these actions?

Conclusion (~150 200 words):

Based on the reasons and evidence gathered from the two (or more) perspectives, state
and explain your personal standpoint (you need to reiterate in a summarized form the
evidence that helped inform your decision). This can be one-sided (for or against), or you
can express ambiguity, or discuss about the lack of enough current research to make a
decision, etc.
