Topic 1 : Why is India Incredible?
Your e-pal has come from the USA and he wants to know more about our incredible
country. You are telling him the ways our country is incredible.
Give two reasons to show how India is different from other countries. Draw / paste
pictures to illustrate your answer. (label neatly)

Topic 2 : Languages
Your friend is amazed at your ability to speak in three languages.
Tell your friend how many languages we have in our country. Why are there so
many languages? What are the main languages? Draw the map given on page 31 of
your text book, showing the major languages spoken in the different states
Topic 3: Scripts
What are scripts? How many scripts do we have in our country? Which was the
earliest Indian script? Why is the Brahmi script important? Look up the internet
and find the pictures of our oldest script and paste it in your file. Find and paste
pictures of the oldest script from any other part of the world eg: Chinese or
Egyptian. What is unique about the script you have chosen?

Topic 4: Religions
Which are the four major religions of India? Which is
the youngest religion? Draw the places of worship of
any two religions and also draw and label their
corresponding symbols. Name the religious books of
each major religion of India. Eg: Hinduism – Bhagvad Gita. Write in two sentences
what the religious books teach us

Topic 5: Art and Architecture


Your friend is surprised to see so many different heritage sites in India. You can
show him the most famous monuments of India.
Draw or paste pictures of 4 monuments and label neatly. Find out who built the
monument and what it was used for. Show how our monuments were decorated
with paintings and sculptures. Look up the internet and paste a picture of the cave
paintings of Ajanta and Ellora.
What are miniature paintings? Who were patrons? How were books written and
decorated in ancient times?
Topic 6: Festivals
Mention one festival each from the North, South, East and West of India.
Draw or paste pictures of any four festivals and label them. Give two reasons
explaining the importance of festivals. Name the major festival of West Bengal.
Write two sentences to say why it is celebrated.
Topic 7: Costumes
Draw or paste pictures of one costume each from the North, South, East
and West of India. Why do we have different costumes in different parts of our
country? Give two reasons. What is the traditional costume of Bengal? Draw the
modern trends followed by boys and girls in costumes today.
Topic 8: Dances
Your friend is asking you about the dances of India. Explain to him what
classical dance is and how it is used. Draw or paste pictures any four forms of dance
from the North, South, East and West of our country. What is a harvest dance?
Write the names of any two harvest dances.
Topic 9: Tribes
What is a tribe? Name any five tribes of India. Draw or paste pictures of
any two tribes of India. What is the Sanskrit word for tribal? What does it mean?
How is one tribe different from another? How are tribes important for our country
today?
Topic 10: Preserving our heritage:
Your friend felt that our country was just incredible. Our heritage and
culture must be preserved. Explain two ways by which we are preserving our
priceless heritage. Share with him two reasons why foreigners should visit our
country. Draw or paste pictures to illustrate your answer.
Topic 11: Creative Writing
Write a short poem of not more than 10 lines, expressing your love for India’s
unique features
Topic 12: Treasures of India:
India is a treasure chest. Write or draw 5-6 treasures which are a part of incredible
India, inside a large treasure chest.
