1 Introduction

The PKR Sigma, YN 415 named (KRI) I GUSTI NGURAH RAI was taken for sea trials.
This report gives the results of the measurements conducted by Research during
these sea trials.

The second and third chapter describe the general particulars of the ship and the
ships equipment. In the fourth chapter the loading conditions under which the trials
were performed are given.

The fifth chapter gives the conditions and the results of the speed trials (F0011.15)

The manoeuvring measurements (F0012.15) are reported in chapter six.

The noise (F0013.15) and Vibration (F0014.15) measurements are reported in


chapters seven and eight respectively.

The response of the vessel may differ from that reported if any of the following
(environmental) conditions are varied:
- weather conditions (wind and waves)
- current strength and direction
- water depth
- draughts and trim

5 Speed measurements (F0011.15)

The speed measurements have been executed with either both main engines or both
electric motors running. The final average free sailing speed is based on a means of
means calculation of four speed runs in opposite directions. The speed during one
run is determined by taking the average of the readings on a GPS during a 6 minute
speed run.

5.7 Manoeuvring characteristics (F0012.15)


A Project Engineer of the Damen Research Department has witnessed and recorded
the several manoeuvring trials to assess the manoeuvring capabilities of YN 415.

Recording of the manoeuvrability was carried out on board according requirements of


IMO Resolution MSC 137(76) 'Standards for ship manoeuvrability'. This document
presents the manoeuvring information that is recommended to be available to
navigators on board taking into account the recommendations of IMO Resolution
A.601(15) 'Provision and display of manoeuvring information on board ships'.

Ship manoeuvres were recorded during the sea trials. The positions, heading and rate
of turn of the vessel were recorded by logging DGPS data on a laptop. Engine speed,
rudder angle, propeller pitch and water depth were visually observed from the on
board equipment as displayed in the wheelhouse.
Corrections have been applied to the recorded position of the vessel for:
1. The position of the GPS antenna relative to the vessel. Plots are presented for
the position at centre line halfway between the perpendiculars.
2. Drift due to environmental influences. Mainly current and possibly wind and
wave drift corrections.

The response of the vessel may differ from that reported if any of the following
(environmental) conditions are varied:
- weather conditions (wind and waves)
- current strength and direction
- water depth
- drafts and trim

5.9 Turning circle tests

5.9.1 General procedure


The ship is brought to a steady heading and speed according to the specific
approach conditions.
Setting the rudder to the specified rudder angle starts the manoeuvre.
Rudder angle and engine controls are kept constant during the turn
The turn continues until at least 360 change of heading has been completed.
A turn with 720 change of heading is recommended.

5.10 Yaw checking tests

5.10.1 General procedure


The ship is brought to a steady heading and speed according to the specific
approach conditions.
Setting the rudder to the specified rudder angle to starboard (or port) starts
the manoeuvre.
After a certain change of heading the rudder is put to port (or starboard) with
a specified rudder angle. The ship's yaw will be checked and a turn in the
opposite direction will begin.
When a certain change of course relative to the initial heading is reached the
rudder is put to starboard (or port) with a specified rudder angle.
Previous two points are repeated several times.

Man-overboard manoeuvres (Williamson Turn)

5.10.4 General procedure


The ship is brought to a steady heading and speed according to the specific
approach conditions.
Setting the rudder to the specified rudder angle to starboard (or port) starts
the manoeuvre. (A)
After a certain change of heading the rudder is put to port (or starboard) with
a specified rudder angle. (B) The ship's yaw will be checked and a turn in the
opposite direction will begin.
While approaching a heading opposite to the initial heading the vessel is
brought to a steady heading. (C)

Changing the speed control lever to the specified position starts the

7 Vibration level measurements (F0014.15)

Vibration spectra are measured in all accommodation and work spaces. From the
measured velocity spectra the weighted RMS velocity from 1 Hz to 80 Hz is
calculated, according to ISO 6954:2000(E). The maximum level of vibration of all three
directions at each location determine the habitability. As a guideline for the maximum
values of the weighted RMS velocity ISO 6954:2000(E) suggests the values as
presented in the table below.
