Before further processing,

carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide are


removed from the cracked gas by once-through
(caustic wash) and regenerative solvent (MEA)
scrubbing. Sulfur may also be removed from the
cracker feedstock. [56].
The acid-gas removal system is typically located
between the 3rd and 4th, or between the 4th
and 5th stages. In all process configurations acidgas
removal must be located upstream of
the drying unit in order to avoid formation of
ice and hydrates in the following fractionation
steps.
