Meet The Student Teacher!

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

My name is Kelsey Shay and I am going to be student teaching in Mrs. Dalbys classroom
this semester. I will graduate from Saint Francis University with certifications in both early
childhood and special education. In addition to my academic activities, I also work at the before
and after school Learning Lamp program at Cambria Heights and Central Cambria Elementary
Schools. I originally was enrolled at Saint Francis University as an occupational therapy student,
but the enjoyment of working with children and watching them succeed made me want to
become a future teacher! I am very excited to have the opportunity to student teach in your
childs classroom this semester! Throughout my time at Saint Francis University, I have had a
wide variety of experiences that have helped me prepare for this.
The journey so far has been a lot of work but it has been well worth it. Each classroom
contains unique students with different experiences, and my semester of student teaching will
not be any different. I have enjoyed each experience along the way and am very much looking
forward to getting to know and learn from your child! Part of my learning experience and
student teaching is to create lesson plans and activities that I will be teaching to Mrs. Dalbys
students. Once my student teaching is over, I will take all of the information that I have learned
and give a presentation on my experience. This presentation is also known as my student
portfolio. I am asking for your permission to allow photographs to be taken of your child during
my lessons in the classroom. These photos will be used solely for my student portfolio
presentation and will only be seen by the education department staff and other education
majors who are completing their student teaching as well. The photos will not be individual
pictures, but as a whole class.
I ask that you please fill out the bottom of this letter and return it back to school with
your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have
listed forms of communication below that I can be reach at. I appreciate your time and am
looking forward to working with your child!
Sincerely,
Miss Shay
