YOUTH EXCHANGES
Aprs la violence, apprenons se rconcilier

After the violence, learn to reconcile

COGNAC from 20 to 29 SEPTEMBER 2017

In order to tackle the main theme, violence and violence are of all time: wars, armed conflicts,
civil wars, reprisals, terrorism, exoduses, exile ... In recent years, violence has taken on new
forms. It finds itself in the world of work by pressures, exclusions, the impoverishment of the
masses, economic insecurity, loss of work, disintegration of the social bond, break-up of the
family unit and the couple; Violence at school, from incivility to aggression. This shows that
there can be active violence and violence, and that they are often in dialectic with each other.
And women are most affected by violence (physical, work, domestic, etc ...).

We want to develop intercultural dialogue, tolerance, mutual respect and solidarity of young
people from different countries and backgrounds by implementing their creative capacities
around this collective project. The group will work together on an artistic and cultural project.
This will also allow us to experience a common creative adventure, to understand concretely
what makes their difference and at the same time to make them bear common values, in order
to fight against all forms of violence and to free voices from reconciliation.

The gateway to this project will be dance with physical contacts to better understand violence
in all its forms.

The dance activity involves a complex means of communication within which the language
has its place but articulated to other languages (gestures, looks, space ...). Thus dance makes it
possible to acquire knowledge-beings, know-how which are values essential to the practice of
this art. We will use dance as a tool for mediating and distancing this violence. It is also a tool
of expression in order to give a voice to the uncivil violence born of the absence of public
space of speech. Dance and the dramatization of behaviors highlight the tensions and
contradictions of the community. It can also be an instrument of understanding what is said
through its violent manifestations. We want to develop intercultural dialogue, reciprocal
knowledge, tolerance, mutual respect, solidarity of young people from different countries and
different backgrounds by leading them to participate in a collective project implementing their
creative capacities. This project will better anticipate the causes of violence and we will work
with the young people of the Cit de Crouin, declared ZUS. This neighborhood is stigmatized
because of its high rate of violence.

We want to allow a group of young people from 5 different countries to work together on an
artistic and cultural project. It will also allow us to experience a common adventure of
creation, to understand concretely what makes their difference and at the same time what
makes them bear common values, in order to fight against all forms of violence. Through this
project, we wish to fulfill the missions and values of our association.

This exchange will enable young people to:

to have tools to better anticipate the causes of the violence and the adapted methods of
reconciliation
To gather around common values but also around their specificities.
Promote their integration into social and cultural life
To develop the practice of dance among young people
To also integrate young people in difficulty through a rewarding project
Valuing practice and artistic creation
Valuing the living together and accepting the difference

The stakes are great, violence, or at least conflict, is the very foundation of dance. And it is
the bringing into play of this conflict, its questioning, seeing its resolution which is the
essence of the project. In partnership with the WATISSERA dance group in Cognac, we will
bring together 25 young people from Italy, Slovakia, Romania and Greece to Cognac from 20
to 29 September 2017.
