1) Mr. Sachin bought a car for Rs.6,00,000 and sold it for Rs.5,20,000. Find the percentage
gain or loss.
2) An article was sold for Rs.340 and 20% profit was earned on it. Find the cost price.
3) An article was sold for Rs.3,825 at 15% loss. Find the price at which it was bought.
4) Find the selling price of an article which was marked at Rs.800, on which a discount of
25% was allowed.
5) By selling an article at Rs.943.50, a person earned 11% profit. What would have been
the % profit or loss if he had sold the article at Rs.765.
6) A publisher offers a Cash discount of 40% on his books marked at Rs.250. If a bookseller
buys 400 copies of the same book, how much cash should he pay to the publisher in

b. % Profit
c. Individual profits of each partner.

The company has hired an agent with 5% commission on the sale price. If the agent
sells pen-drive with 20% Trade discount and 10% Cash discount, find the profit of the
company for that particular deal.

price of a sofa which was sold at Rs.5,820/-.
26) The cost price of a mobile hand set to a company is Rs. 5,000. Its marked price is
Rs.8,000, to which 15% discount is offered. If the cash discount is 10%, find the profit as
well as the percentage profit of the company for each hand set sold against cash
payment.
27) A shopkeeper sold an executive chair, marked at Rs. 4,000, with 25% trade discount and
4% cash discount. Find the profit and the percentage profit if the cost of the chair was
Rs.2,500.
28) Mr. X bought a laptop from abroad for Rs.35,000. He wants to sell it for Rs. 50,000, on
which he is ready to offer 20% discount and a further discount of 2% against a cash
payment. Mr. Y gets him a customer with ready cash for a small commission of 3% on
the sale price. Find the profit earned by Mr. X in this deal.
29) An agent is appointed by a company to sell their products at 12% discount. A further 3%
discount is also offered to customers as a promotional gimmick. Assuming that the
agents commission is 5% on the net price, and that the agent has sold goods listed at
Rs.75,000, find the following :-
a. The net price of the goods sold by the agent.
b. His commission.
c. Amount received by the company.
[Hint : Recall that, the list price is the marked price and the net price is the sale price.
Also, the additional discount of 3% is to be given on the Invoice price]

30) A well-known manufacturer of mixer and blender is offering a discount of 5% on all
varieties and a further discount of 10% under the replacement scheme. i.e. if a customer
surrenders her old mixer to the company, she gets this additional 10% discount.
Assuming that, the company gets Rs.100, per old mixer from a scrap dealer, find the
profit to the company when their mixer with actual cost of Rs.3,500, but with marked
price of Rs.4,600, is sold under the replacement scheme.
31) A company producing LCD monitors for computers, have the following scheme to
promote their sales. They offer 8% discount on every monitor. In addition, if the
customer returns his old monitor in working condition, they give a further 4% discount
under the buy back scheme. The bold monitor is then passed on to small venders for
Rs.500/-. If a customer purchases an LCD monitor of marked price Rs.5,000 from the
company, under the buy back scheme, calculate the profit to the company, if the cost
price of each monitor is Rs.4,000/-.
32) An article is marked at Rs.1,800. A trader allows a discount of 25% and still gains 20%
profit. Find the cost price of the article.
33) A dining table is marked at Rs.2,000. A shopkeeper sells it with a discount of 25% and
still gains 50% profit. Find the cost of the table.
34) A two-wheeler marked at Rs.35,000 is sold by a dealer with 20% discount. If he gains
40% as profit, find the cost price of the two-wheeler.
35) A shop is run by two partners A and B with stakes 60 and 40 respectively. The shop
regularly gives 9% trade discount. However, during Xmas, the partners decided to give a
further 10% discount. If they sold goods worth Rs.40,000 as per the list price on the
Xmas day, find the individual profit of the partners for that day, assuming that the cost
price of the goods sold is Rs.30,000/-.
[Hint : The special Xmas discount of 10% is applicable on the Invoice Price]
36) A company has three partners A, B, C with the stakes 50, 30 and 20 respectively. As per
the policy of the company, they give 18% trade discount and further 5% promotional
discount. If in a particular financial year, the company did a business of Rs.3,00,000 as
per the list price, find the individual profit of the partners, assuming that the cost price
of the goods sold, was Rs.2,00,000/-.
[Hint : The promotional discount is applicable on the Invoice Price]
37) Two friends A and B purchased an article by sharing 70% and 30% of the cost. They
decorated the article, marked it for Rs. 5,000 and kept for sale in an Arts Exhibition. The
policy of the exhibition was to give 8% trade discount and 5% cash discount. The article
was sold for ready cash and the profit of A was Rs.700. State the profit of B and also
find the cost price of the article.

1) A salesman sells a weekly magazine priced at Rs.40 per copy. His sales during 6 weeks
are 314, 467, 963, 312, 530 and 306 copies. If his rate of commission is 15%, find the
amount he earned during the period.
2) Find the agents commission at 25% on the first years premium for a policy of Rs.
50,000, the rate of premium being Rs.38.25 per thousand.
3) An estate is sold for Rs. 25,000 through an estate broker who charges 2% brokerage
from the buyer and 1% from the seller. What amount does the (i) vendor get ? (ii) buyer
pay ? (iii) broker get ?
4) Two agents, A and B, work for the same principal. A entirely on commission basis and B
on salary plus commission arrangement. The former is paid 8 % commission on his
sales and the latter 3 % commission plus a salary of Rs. 3,800 a month. What
miniumum monthly sales should A bring to earn more than B always ?
5) A company fixed the rate of commission to its salesmen as follows :-
(i) 5% on the first Rs.10,000 of sales, (iii) 9% on the next Rs. 5,000,
(ii) 6% on the next Rs. 5,000, (iv) 10% on the balance.
