Careers Newsletter
Term 3 Week 3
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO HEAD TEACHERS and ALL STAFF
and to Parents/carers,
It may only take one piece of news to lead a student towards success in their life's career.
Below is a list of events and links to information that are available to students. They are
categorised into subject areas, if you would like any more information about any of the
following events please contact Ms Sewell. Also included is a list of upcoming events that
GHS students will have the opportunity to attend over the coming weeks.
Events GHS students have the opportunity to attend
Max Potential 24th October: Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to become involved in the Max
Potential program which is a 22 week program community-based program aimed at growing young leaders in
local communities. It connects young people with other leaders in their local community. This means that young
adults have the opportunity to work with someone who genuinely cares about their future and will invest in it. Club
Mudgee is supporting MP as a community initiative in your local area, giving you the opportunity to get involved. A
MP representative will be at school during year meetings in week 3 to give the students more information about
becoming involved.
Skills and Thrills 31st October: Years 8-11 students have the opportunity to attend Skills and Thrills. The Showcase
outlines the pathways through these different VETT sectors, including where to go for training (TAFE profiled heavily
along with private training providers), apprenticeships, training, group training and employment outcomes (link to
industry). This will include pathways to being an entrepreneur and owning your own business. Smart and Skilled and
the Government agenda will be strongly profiled.
Meet a Keeper 7th November: 11 students will get the amazing opportunity to attend Western Plains Taronga Zoo in
Dubbo and experience what it is like to be a zoo keeper or work within the animal industry for the day. Students will
get the opportunity to learn more about the training involved when it comes to working with animals, job
opportunities as well as getting to see behind the scenes and spend a day in the life of a keeper.
Post RoSA Program weeks 7-10: Year 10 will be involved in a 4 week program that has been designed to help them
further develop their skills and qualities, which they will be able to add to their resumes that they have been working
on in career classes. Students will attend workshops and training in CPR, OH&S White Card, Touch Football
Refereeing Certificate, Coffee course, community volunteering, Mock Interviews, and information sessions about
personality profiles, TAFE, Driver Safety, and options beyond school. Students will be receiving information on the
program in week 3 and there will be several notes that will need to be retunred.
