LUCY HALTONS REVENGE

I n the eighteenth century there lived a very

beautiful young girl whose name was Lucy
Halton .Her parents were very rich, and she was
an only child, so one day she would inherit an
enormous fortune. Her parents introduced her to a
lot of rich young men, hoping she would find a
husband, but she was determined to marry for
love.
Then, one day, she met Peter Stanton. He was good-
looking and charming but he was also poor. Lucy
Haltons parents thought he was a fortune hunter,
but she wouldnt listen to theirs arguments against
him, and the couple got married.
At first, things were fine, but a few months after
their wedding, Lucy Haltons parents were killed in
an accident, and she inherited their fortune. It was
only then that she realized that her marriage had
been a mistake - Peter Stanton didnt love her, he
only wanted her money. One day, the couple went
out riding , and a terrible thing happened. Lucy
Halton fell off her horse and died. A lot of people
suspected Peter, but they couldnt prove anything,
and he was left with all her fortune.
Exactly a year after his wifes death, Peter Stanton
was riding through the same field with another
young lady. The woman saw a beautiful wild red
rose, which was growing in the exact place where
Lucy Halton had died. Stanton got off his horse to
pick the rose for his new love, but one of the thorns
scratched him badly, giving him a very deep
wound. That evening, he fell ill. Doctors tried in
vain to cure his mysterious sickness, and, eight
days later, he died. No one ever found the true
cause of Stantons death. But it could be that Lucy
Haltons rose took revenge for her death.
