General
The following slides include:

general information about the releases, both Korean and Japanese (click on the album cover on the left to see the
concept pictures! Though some do not have any concept pictures linked to them)
the promotional MVs and information about it (trigger warnings are listed if they exist; views recent as of April 2016)
their b-sides
noteworthy information that happened during this era

Generally speaking, youll find that BTS talk about youth a lot. Since debut, its their goal to write lyrics people in their teens and
tweens can relate to - and throughout their discography, they have tackled school issues, bullying, relationships, social media,
mental health issues and generally struggles of all sorts.
They also talk a lot about themselves, such as how it is to be in the industry, their hometowns, their dialects, how cool they are
etc. Very rarely, they also address people (more on this part later) in their raps.

As a rule of thumb, their newer releases are much better than their older stuff, so do start with their later stuff if you havent
heard anything about them yet. Also, their b-sides are about them and handle the topics I listed above, so please listen to them
as well! Their entire discography can be found on Spotify (artist name BTS) and iTunes! (every link on k2nblog works as well,
in case you want to download)
2 Cool 4 Skool
first single album / first installment of the school trilogy

No More Dream
views: 14 million (dance version) / 6 million (regular
version) / released June 13, 2013

No More Dream is their debut MV! This includes

absolutely terrible hair, terrible styling, young
boys being tryhards, abs-flashing and
half-fetuses. View at your own discretion, the
songs quite good however. Lyrically it talks about
a society that has no dreams anymore (duh), and
asks to be yourself and go your own path.

This song has a meta value, as Rap Monster said

this song was about him and how he used to have
no real dream and only study until he started

We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2

Their second MV, We Are Bulletproof Pt.2!

Includes even more awkward looks, a generally
odd MV, abs-flashing, and yet again a quite good
song. Lyrically, theyre tackling themselves this
time, talking about how theyll show all the others
and how great they are. Once again, view at your
own discretion.

Outro: Circle Room Cypher, in which everyone

tries a hand at freestyle rapping. As you might
imagine, chaos ensues.
Finally, this is our first mini album, one that weve worked extremely hard on. We thought
long and hard about how to show our real selves in the songs. The large amount of songs is
equal to the amount of effort we put in.

Its nothing new that BTS uses their intros as a

comeback (or debut) teaser, but this is unlike
them in the sense that it includes a full-length
choreography and isnt using an intro from the
album. With that said, youre welcome.

N.O and yet another terrible MV with terrible

saying NO to being someone elses dream, being

My personal favourite teaser of theirs! You might

recognize the first beat as the same as Luv in
Skools from the last mini. Although the actual
intro is (the only one) performed by all three of
the rappers, this trailer (and performances you
may come across) only feature the last third
rapped by Rap Monster. In all three of the raps,
they talk about how to approach a girl and what
she means to them, in their own ways and styles.

Boy In Luv
views: 50 million / released: February 12, 2014

Boy in Luv (the Korean translates to Real Man /

Manly Man) has first major shift in BTS sound
when its about title tracks. Both the song and MV
feature the boys as delinquents who turn to a
nervous mess as they try to woo a girl. Personally,
the only reason to watch this MV is Jimin
laughing at Jungkooks dick. The songs played at
the beginning are Intro: What Am I To You and Just
One Day, by the way.

Just One Day

The promotional track of the repackaged mini,

Skool Luv Affair: Special Addition, is one of the most
mellow tracks BTS has in their repertoire. The
boys sit dreamily with soft lighting all around as
they talk about how they would like to date a girl
but cant due to busy schedules.

B-Sides
Skool Luv Affair also has the following in their repertoire: Skool Luv Affair: Special Addition (released May 14, 2014)

Cypher pt.2: Triptych
before you listen to this song, read the context of it first.
Basically, B-Free was calling Rap Monster and Suga
(former underground rappers) during an event late 2013
not real, calling them men disguising themselves as
women etc. As you might imagine this blew up, and this
incident also made Rap Monster release a track called Too
Much, which well cover later. Anyway, they also released
this track. Especially Sugas verse is massively directed at
B-Free. As for B-Free, you ask? He apologized for it,
alright two years later, actually. He also took it back
once fans started giving a less-than-stellar response,
although the basic gist is that they wanted him to
apologize to Rap Monster/Suga directly.

As a side note, there was recently a fuss about Rap Monster

plagiarizing Kendrick Lamar in his verse. Its just flow jacking
and that sort of thing happens, its not plagiarism.
Noteworthy info
During this era, BTS was accused of
plagiarizing EXOs school uniform concept
(back then with Growl). Suga clarified during
the broadcast of Beatles Code 3D that this was
planned beforehand, as Boy in Luv was a part
of the school trilogy and uniforms playing part
in a school-themed concept, unrelated to
Growl. You can watch the cut in question to
your left.
We believed that we were making a work of art. We couldnt fall behind since it was an
official album. In hopes that it would be a really good masterpiece, we worked hard in
making it and it holds many emotions. When we first made the title song, we thought,
'When will we finish writing this, creating it, and releasing it?, but once we blinked, we
were at the showcase area. It was really fascinating.

decided that Rap Monster fit this best. In this
song, hes starting out with being so happy that

even without lyrics, this is an intro with strong
emotions, perfectly setting the tone for the title

War of Hormone

The follow-up promotions of Dark&Wild was the

energetic War of Hormone, the wild penchant of
this album. In this MV, BTS once again tries
wooing a girl by talking about their very wild
emotions and hormones. If theyre successful?

Outro: Does This Make Sense?
Noteworthy info
As Suga has said as well, Dark&Wild is split into two parts (Interlude: What Are You Doing? as the
splitter): the Dark part is very gloomy in nature, as the Wild side tells a story about trying to get a girl.
This is an album with the most foreign producers working on it, arguably the release where the boys
experiment with all sorts of different genres (from rnb to slower tracks to classic coffee-shop music
in Rain), and also the album the boys worked on while filming their second reality show - American
Hustle Life (more on this later). Although the following albums are more liked in the fandom, this one is
my favourite for its experimental sound and coherency, so as a biased person: please do give
Dark&Wild a shot.

During this era, the boys also kicked off their first ever tour, BTS Episode II: The Red Bullet! It started
October 18, 2014 and lasted all the way to late 2015. Youll hear more of this later.
Like its titleWAKE UPsuggests, (the album) carries a feeling of awakening
and realisation. Along with the Japanese versions of our Korean songs, our
new album also includes many original Japanese songs. Because of that, I
believe it is an album that showcases a new side of BTS, and above all, one
that suits attuned to the sensibilities of our Japanese listeners. Weve also
infused our members personal styles and honest feelings as messages into the
album, so itll be great if fans can give the full tracklist a listen and get to know
our true selves and current emotions a little better.

favourite, the song that brought them their first

popularity they have now, both internationally
and domestically. For now, this seems to be their
last shift in sound (electro-infused pop). Although
they talk about the emotional turmoil of a dying

facets of youth, both good and bad sides.

MV of BTS on YouTube! This was also covered by
Youtubers React by the FineBros once and has met
mostly positive reactions. In this song, BTS talks
about how this generation shouldnt be
underestimated and about themselves (basically
an upgrade and much more confident version of
Rise of Bangtan). Their outfits were decided on
random, by the way, and are not the childhood
dreams of the boys or something. The choreo is
by well-known choreographer Keone Madrid!

what BTS wanted to convey as well.

Part one explained how youth is tiring and difficult, and it also touched on how
we feel like were always on edge. Part two will have a more adventurous and
daring feel to it. Thats why our title song is Run. Its natural that people fail or
make mistakes, but I think its a touchy subject for the society as a whole. We
wanted to comfort ourselves by saying that one mistake or failure is not the end
of the world.

Jins covers: Jin released two covers, Mom by Ra.D for Mothers day and I Love You.

first mixtape by Rap Monster
release date: march 20, 2015
genre: hip-hop
MVs released: Do You, Awakening, Joke
Do You

tw: images of needles, knives, pills and eyeballs

The first (and standout) single from RM is Do You,

a song Rap Monster deems as catharic. Kept in
monochromatic colors, Rap Monster talks about
how you should do the things you want to do.
Awakening

tw: objects burning

The second MV is Awakening, a track that wanted

to affirm the message of Do You. Hes also talking
about idolism (something he has talked in length
before as well - see Cypher pt.2 and Too Much),
this time fully embracing the fact that hes one.
Joke

tw: hospitals

The third and final MV of RM is Joke, a track Rap

Monster actually does coin as a joke. Hes not
talking about anything in particular and just
shows his (incredible) rap prowess.

RM also features: This gives an amazing insight to this mixtape! Its
definitely a must-read. There is also this
Voice magazine interview, where his personality shines
Monster through a lot.

had a collarboration with hip hop legend Warren
G for P.D.D (short for Please Dont Die) and was
also featured in Primarys second album 2 in U.
He talks about some of his achievements during

The members
We know very well that each member is lacking in various areas. There is
no perfect person amongst us. Since we know each others weaknesses, we
work hard. Because weve lived with each other for a long time and know
each other very well, we feel like brothers. We feel happy when were
together.

Suga
Before, I read an article titled If you dont care about what others
think of you, youll be happy, from then on, not caring about what
other people around me thought, I decided to follow my own beliefs.
Especially for people with jobs like us, well receive a lot of criticism
good or bad, judging us like this and that, which cant be avoided. If
you care about one of them, you will slowly slowly go off track, to
avoid these kinds of situations from happening I decided not to care
about the things around me.

OT7
BTS, even from the name, if we aren't a team, don't you think it'll be
difficult?
Reasons to love this group
In all honesty, the boys really adore one another. Theres a bond between them that seems very
genuine, and would I start listing the times [insert member here] was being supportive of [insert other
member here], I would not be able to stop. They constantly refer to themselves as group as this team
(sadly always translated as BTS in subtitles), and they also mentioned that this is a reason people
like them - because theyre as close as blood-related brothers.

They also love, love, love ARMYs. We talk about a group that dances randomly just for their fans,
steals the lightsticks, dont refuse giving autographs although in situations no one else would, and
dedicate an entire song to them. Aside always thanking in words and letters and whatnot, they also
always make a point thanking their international fans in English during award speeches.

Recommendations
What this section is about
So, now you know their songs, and got to know their members a little. Its time to see some of this in
practice too, though!

This section includes:

variety shows and all sorts of videos to get started (because once you do, its hard to stop)
personal favourite performances
popular fandom memes

This part is also still under construction, as I personally havent seen everything myself either! You
can find another recommendation list here, too.

You can find every BTS variety or them offstage here.

Varieties
BANGTANTV
Their official Youtube channel! It includes episodes (special days & events), logs (where the members
sit down and talk about anything they want to) and most importantly, bombs. Bangtan bombs range
from Jungkook holding two toothbrushes to them backstage winning shows, but its in total a really
random mess of the members being dorky idiots. Theyre all very funny, and a great way to pass the
time! I recommend:

N.O Trot version

Magic show
Lets Speak English (please pretend you never heard the jimin you got no jams part)
Runway in the night
Dancing to The Chainsmokers #SELFIE
Becoming Younger Brother
MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE
Eyes Nose Lips
Rookie King / Channel Bangtan
What this is: Split into three parts each ep, Rookie
King is quite a nonsensical variety show with
fetus!Bangtan of N.O era. The parts go as follows:

Main section: taking most of the episode,

here they are either having a competiton or
some sort of other thing.
Endplate King: there is one punishment a
member receives if they get the Death card.
You might imagine the hilarity.
Bangtan Lotto: a giveaway of their own stuff

This is a really really funny variety show. I

definitely recommend this as your first!
American Hustle Life
What this is: BTS traveled to LA in Summer 2014
to truly learn hip-hop. This is more of a hip hop
bootcamp, with missions in every episode. The
final episode ends with a concert.

I wouldnt recommend this as first series, but by

all do means do watch it! Despite some really
cringeworthy moments, this show also has some
iconic lines (Im rich. You want this chain? 3
dollars) and can get very emotional at some
points too.

Some of the musical influences the boys got can

be heard in Dark & Wild, the album they produced
during this series!
Weekly Idol
What this is: BTS being featured in the famous
variety show. In total they have done so three
times!

Boy In Luv Era / I Need U Era / Run Era

Should you watch it? There are probably better

shows out there that introduces you better to the
boys. The main reason for that is there are
members that get little to no screentime (most
notably Suga).
Yaman TV
What this is: split into two teams, BTS has to get
the most eggs in order to win. And for that, they
have to do all sorts of really stupid things.

Part 1 / Part 2

In case Rookie King is too long or old for you, this

might just be your #1 introduction to the group.
Absolutely hilarious.
Running Man
What this is: Reality. I know, absolutely shocking.
EatJin
Where you find it: Youtube and V App.

What this is: Perfection.

Originally named Eating Kim Seokjin, this show is

basically Jin eating, and hes making funny noises
and is just fun in general. It also earned him the
nickname EatJin! There are a few live shows on V
App, but most of his EatJins are on Youtube!

You can start with any of them, but the one on the
left is my favourite.
V App - OT7
Bangtans quite active on their V App! There are some live broadcasts, and also prerecorded shows, such as:

Bangtan Gayo: Here, the boys tackle one musical genre after the other, playing games and doing missions.

Run! BTS: More active than Bangtan Gayo, here they try out all sorts of things, such as bungee jumping, riding
rollercoasters and such.

A link to all of their V App shows can be found here.

Should you watch them? Definitely do, but dont make this your first. Maybe after you get to know the boys a
bit? You can totally watch this as first thing, though. Its perfect.
V App - Solo / Duo
The members also have their solo sections! They are either pre-recorded or actually live. As a general
rule, theyre funnier when you get to know the members.

What Are 95z Doing? (Jimin & V): Here they act out all sorts of skits with their dialect.

Hope On The Street (J-Hope): originally a blog series, J-Hope sometimes does some routine moves live.
The first Hope On The Street on V-App features Jungkook whereas the second features Jimin and V.

Rap Monster 1 Minute English (RM & Jungkook): Rap Monster teaches Jungkook some English with
varying success.

Eat Jin: Jin made some of the EatJins live on V App, but mentioned that he will continue the second
season on the blog as he didnt get the reception on V App he had hoped for.

Hwagae Market (Suga & J-Hope): This has absolutely no content, as confirmed by Suga and J-Hope
themselves. Still super fun though.
